Ula shuffles to a seat near the front to see Marrin play. She wholeheartedly enjoys the set. Nothing like fighting for your life to make you enjoy life’s small pleasures.
At some point during the music, she would mingle over nearer to where Hammerdasher has a small group of passengers chatting. She ask’s Adelysia Demai, “It’s Adelysia isn’t it?… You’re one of the merchant suppliers to my parent's inn I think!… What brings you aboard this vessel? Is it taking you toward business pursuits, or pleasure?…”.
When Marrin finishes her set, Ula would try to get her to play something more intimate for a small group maybe including some or most of the party, if for nothing else but to let her try another few songs in a more relaxed setting ((and maybe reroll, and see if this one can build a little momentum from small beginnings)). And besides, she really did enjoy the first set, and would love some more music. “Aww go on!!… Please, just one or two for me!…”.
“I’m studying…” Ethel says, then hesitates, wondering how much to say to this stranger. “… I’ve found there is precious little in the way of restorative arcane magic. To heal the sick… to ease suffering… such is left for the servants of the gods. They say wizards cannot restore life. I aim to see if that is true… and if so, to change it.”

Jaroo Durim smiles at Avaria when she sits down next to him.
“You’re an interesting one, ain’t you?” Jaroo says holding out his hand to shake Avaria’s. “You lot didn’t seem phased by them big squids. Good thing you were here.”
He looks Avaria up and down then laughs.
“Starting out in life are you?” He leans in a little more closely. “Let me give you a little free advice. Always keep your coin pouch in the front and closed tightly.”
Jaroo pats the front of his belt where no pouch can be seen. But he does make several coins appear from his waistband and just as quickly disappear.
Demai stares at Ula for a moment with narrow eyes. She moves her seat a little further away and wrinkles her nose. She draws an expensive cloak around her body more closely and turns her gaze away from Ula.
“You’re a Stonecaster, aren’t you?” she says with a hint of a sneer. “Every time I leave Spandeliyon is a pleasure.”
Geffroi nods several times and brings his chair a little closer to Ethel. He looks around and then lowers his voice a little, forcing Ethel to have to lean in to hear the nervous scholar.
"There is perhaps more to living creatures than the arcane fully grasps yet. But I suspect there are secrets guarded against most eyes." he says then pauses to take a sip of ale. "Have you ever dealt with the Avowed before? Those sanctimonious monks could have the means to prevent all suffering buried in those vaults at Candlekeep but you’d never know it. They're a waste of time. But if some day it is safe to return to Gheldaneth, down in the ruins of the old Arcanum of Magic, you might find some real answers."
As you carry on your conversations, the Captain breaks off a conversation he's been having with Godrick Hargrove and signals to the half-orc, Tammer. She disappears down into the lower hold for a moment before returning with a deep red bottle and brings it to the Captain. He examines it and holds it up to the light before nodding and giving it back to Tammer.
He then makes his way over to the table where most of the party and the other passengers are gathered.
"We might have made it through today without you, but I think the odds were against us," the Captain says. "I'd like to share something special with you by way of thanks. I've managed to acquire a bottle of Evermead and this is as good an occasion as any to open it."
Tammer comes back with new cups for everyone. Looking in you can see a small amount of a golden liqueur that smells of cherry, vanilla, and rose. Captain Percival takes his cup and smells the contents with a smile on this face. He then holds it up and nods his thanks again to the group before drinking.
"Now tell me what brought you on to the Rose Marie in the first place."
Ula looks a little hurt by the merchant’s words and simply shuffles away a little crestfallen.
Ula thanks the captain profusely, and continues to drink to help her tummy, in spite of the rose flavour she’s never enjoyed.
”Very kind, thank you Captain!… I’m the eldest daughter of two adventurers. And I’m off to explore the world for myself… And spread the word of Istishia, of course!”.
"We've time, I play a bit in the room as well. I think I have had my time in the spotlight tonight."
Marrin watches Demai and Ula's interaction with a mildly annoyed expression. While Demai's gaze is turned away, Marrin prestidigitates that very fine cloak with a thorough, but subtle, dosing of fish juice stank.
When the captain arrives with the Evermead her mood lightens considerably.
"Why thank you sir!"
After Ula finishes she says with a half-smile,
"Riches and fame, more specifically the search for them."
Avaria smiles broadly at the gnome as he greets her back. "Well, this is my first time on a water vessel, but I'm glad my friends and I were able to help. They were some wicked beasts, that's for sure." As he leans in conspiratorially, she matches the lean and listens. Her eyes widen as he pulls his little trick.
"Why, what.. how did you do that? Looks like yours is quite secure. Though, I must ask... is this just good advice no matter where you are around others, or should I have reason on this ship?"
As the captain has the drink passed out to everyone, Avaria, who is already feeling the ale, gingerly takes this one and gives it a good sniff. The cherry and vanilla hit her first and the sweetness of it captures her, making her eyelids flutter a bit. She slowly takes a sip, unsure of the effects of this one as well. Drinking was not something Avaria was used to.
After Ula and Marrin, Avaria tries to answer the captain, "To leave home for the first time, see something other then my forest and the animals that live within. To experience something new, and well, make new friends." And at this last part she raises her cup to her new friends and anyone else that's listening.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"... Let us continue our conversation again before this ship reaches port, Geffroi." [I don't recall if she was ever named in his presence, but if not she will introduce herself as Ethlehyn Ahronath.]
She very much intends to continue this conversation, as the mousy scholar may have leads on exactly the sort of knowledge she seeks. But is a long voyage yet, and she will have plenty of time to pick the man's brain. For now, the promise of Evermead calls to her. She had only tasted it once before... an elven business associate had brought a bottle to celebrate a new deal struck with hers and her husband's trading outfit. But it had been like tasting the voice of the angels... and while she was not one to splurge on such luxuries, the offer of a free glass was not something she could pass up.
She rises and walks to where the cups are being passed, leaning on her walking stick. Though she feels better - both from the seasickness and the bruising from earlier - she is never perfectly sturdy, even in the best of times. When a cup is offered the takes it quickly. "My thanks to the captain." She speaks then in elvish, and bows before she raises the cup to save the sweet aroma of the Evermead. Though she allows herself to enjoy the sip in the moment, she holds off against the memories it tries to conjure.
No. The past is gone, for now.
Her short elvish speech:
"Such a princely gift is given with affection and received with appreciation."
"As for why I am aboard, I am a scholar in search of the unknown... and Spandeliyon and its surrounding environs no longer held any secrets from me."
As she savors the sweet liquer, she ruminates on some of the people and places Geffroi mentioned. The Avowed; Gheldaneth; the Arcanum of Magic. What had she heard of these things? History: 25

Jan muses on the information Ethel provide, muttering quietly, half to the other woman, half to herself, "Perhaps... the intel I had on him just pointed to him being a pirate... but a wealthy, well connected, master thief with access to exceedingly rare books and the ability to cast magic would probably be able to do quite well for himself as a pirate. Or, perhaps the piracy and his actions in furtherance of it serve some sort of larger purpose he finds himself driven to by prophecy, or at least the attempt to fulfill prophecy?"
She looks up as Avaria chimes in, having not anticipated her occasionally canine companion's hearing.
"He's the reason I'm on this boat, a source said he was connected to this vessel, though I certainly didn't expect him to be on it.", she stands up and moves to her pack, fishing out a pair of manacles and dangling them before returning them to her pack. "I'm starting to think I'm rather unprepared for this particular pirate."
She rests up with her bunkmates, musing over her next move in her head until it's time to head down to the lower deck.
At the celebration, Jan plays the role of relieved and grateful passenger who stepped up to help fend off the squid attack, but doesn't make any approaches to the other passengers for the moment, and doesn't go out of her way to acknowledge Hargrove's presence.
She winces a bit as Marrin's performance goes a bit flat, she's tried performing for a room at an inn before and had it go much worse, and have to sneak into the stables for a roof over head, so she can certainly empathize. There's no way that Marrin goes through life with the confidence she has and consider that her best work. Surely the gods wouldn't let someone that obtusely self centered exist outside royalty. She giggles into her beer at the thought of Marrin being a princess on the lam.
She'll make her way over to Jeras., "How are you feeling? When that squid grabbed you, I was worried that if it made off with you, I'd get conscripted to cook... and my cooking is a fate worse than death.", she says with a smile, before adopting a more serious face, "Seriously though, are you doing alright?"
After a brief chat with the cook, she makes her way back to the table where most of her companions are as the Captain is bringing the bottle around.
She takes her cup as it is passed, breathing in the aromas with eyes closed, opening them in slight surprise as Ethel speaks in excellent elvish. Perhaps a recited line, but not one Jan is familiar with, it would seem the scarred woman is full of surprises.

Fortunately Mister Bigge offered a berth at the cost of some additional labor, though I daresay I didn't think it labor would include fending off giant squids! More than once today I questioned taking him up on it versus walking, but all in all, it was a good day."

Avaria, when you ask Jaroo Durim about whether his warning was for life in general or for on the Rose Marie specifically, all you get is a smile from the gnome. He does place his finger to his nose and wink at you. If you had to guess, given how quick his fingers are at making coins appear and disappear you would think he means in life in general and people with his skill specifically.
Jan, Jeras the cook gives you a weary smile. He's tired and looks like he’ll sleep well tonight but he’s determined to finish with the kitchen.
Ethlehyn, despite having a few drinks, talking with Geffroi has cleared your mind and opened your memory up for easy recall. Every sage like yourself knows of the Avowed. They're the monk like caretakers, guardians, and librarians of Candlekeep, home to the largest collection of tomes in Faerun. Gheldaneth is a name many travelers will have come across. It was once a great city in Mulhorand before the Spellplague laid waste to that land. But it still survives today as part of the High Imaskar empire on the far eastern side of the Sea of Fallen Stars. But the city that exists today is said to share little with the original having been built on top of the once great trading and learning center. Now, the Arcanum of Magic is something you need to dig deeper into your memory for. You recall a story of a great university that started out as temple of Thoth in the east and think you might have heard of it referred to as the Arcanum of Magic at some point. But from what you remember, it was destroyed in the Spellplague. Could its ruins be buried beneath the new Gheldaneth?
The captain nods to all of you. He looks over at where Godrick sits alone for a moment then stands. “Excuse me. It will be another long day tomorrow and there is much I need to do. Enjoy the rest of the night. Tomorrow could be worse than today.”
As he crosses the deck to the ladder, Quartermaster Bigge intercepts him just as he gets to the foot of the ladder. Bigge looks agitated but the captain just shakes his head. With the noise of laughter it’s too hard to hear what is said between them. Bigge watches the Captain climb up to the topdeck, looks over at Godrick Hargrove, giving the man in black a fierce glare before looking back around, his eyes resting on the group of you and the other passengers for a moment. He then climbs up on deck himself.
Avaria enjoys the feeling buzzing through her limbs and the company that she is very much not used to being around, but the drink is helping with that. And she is really enjoying getting to know her new friends. She sticks with them for the most part, but as people start to disperse, she watches the captain and Bigge head up to the top deck.
(ooh, I'm going to go with yes, since the way it was written it was very apparent, just wanted to roll since she's a little naive and a bit intoxicated)
Unsure of what to do at this particular juncture, she isn't tired and doesn't want to retire back to the room just yet. She turns to the others, "I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to explore a bit now that things have calmed down."
By now it had been a bit since they went up to the top deck, she didn't want to appear as though she was following them. She heads up, and leaning against a rail, she stares off into the sea for awhile.
Perception 5
If Bigge is around and by himself, she'll head over to him after a bit, "Good evening, been enjoying the party? It's beautiful out here."
A few minutes later, after Marrin slowly finishes her delightful drink, she surveys the crowd. Covering a yawn she excuses herself to get some rest after a long day.
In the room, if she's alone she'll sit on her bunk and playing a short, quiet melody before stowing the lute and laying down for the night.
Avaria doesn't see Bigge anywhere. She does hear loud voices from the captain's cabin, but from her position at the rail, they're too muffled to make out.
As each of you make your way back up to your cabin, you feel the ship moving up and down in the swells of the sea. Nothing as bad as when the storm was upon the Rose Marie; this is almost calming. Even Ula is starting to get the feel of the ship. Maybe the Evermead did more than she thought to calm the sea sickness that had plagued her all day.
You all feel calmer and calmer, until fatigue starts setting in. Rodents of unusual size, swirling storms and giant squid, capped off with a rare elven liqueur, seems to have taken its toll on all of you.
But is that all it is? You'd taken a rest not more than a couple of hours ago yet you still struggle to keep your eyes open.
Did anyone see the Evermead poured?
As you settle into your bunks, and fall asleep, constitution saves please. Ula's hardy dwarven stomach might help here; not exactly poison but I'd say similar enough to allow for advantage on the roll.
Ethlehyn struggles to sit up before falling back into her bunk. She tries to bite her tongue to stay awake. CON 15

If Bigge is around and by himself, she'll head over to him after a bit, "Good evening, been enjoying the party? It's beautiful out here."
Marrin waves fair well to Ava,
"Happy hunting!'
After a bit out on the railing, seeing absolutely nothing, Avaria finally decides to turn in and heads back to her bunk.
Ula will eventually finish her drink and head back to the bunks to rest.

(Oh dang, really? Lol! You are sure keeping us on our toes, I love it!)
