Marten's continued description of the book and the tale within seem to make a pattern more clear in the minds of both Graxx and Utar. The dwarf nods along and keeps sharing: "I trust my selection of students. They wouldn't do that. Not after these many 'ears fightin' together." Noticing Graxx interest, the retired adventurer adds: "I wish I could share the book with ya, so ya too could learn to admire Ren. Most of the collection is archived in Mantor's Library, but the stolen volume has special personal meanin' to me. I want nothin' more than it to be found safely, though I won't get me 'opes up."
Before the conversation can continue or the request to look over the crime scene can be filled, Neya decides to accept the challenge. Leaving some equipment behind, she approaches the rack of practice weapons, noticing a small pendant with the symbol of a mailed hand clutching a sword hanging from a peg near a weapon rack (passive perception). Neya has seen this symbol before (passive history): Villonah Leadstopper carried a similar pendant.
Marten whistles loudly to get Vera's attention. "Ya've a new challenger. Take a deep breath and show her what we Foss'es can do." On the racks in the practice yard, there are a number of practice weapons. Before the fight begins, Vera circles the challenging monk and lays a couple of ground rules, not knowing Marten had already done so: "No armor, no spells, no interference, and no hitting in the face. First to land three hits is the 'inner. " She sounds a lot like her dad.
(@Drache: Neya can pick whatever padded version of simple or martial melee weapon(s) she likes. Also, please roll initiate.)
"Hmm~ The more I hear that name, the more unfortunate it sounds."Obsben comments, prior to then looking up to Utar and Graxx. "I don't suppose there's any chance of changing it in the future to something with less... 'vulgar' acroynyms? Like say... hmm... Purtty? Or Coolio? Or even.. Hmm... Nug'd? Oh oh! Or how about Dabblers of good sense and... style!" She went on to suggest, if only to past the time while the fighters got squared away for the match to come.

Graxx, Utar, and Obsben settle in alongside Marten and all trainees to watch the duel that is about to start. The halfling helps pass time with a pitch to rename the party.
Vera approaches the weapon rack and collects two heavily padded clubs. One has a smaller head than the other, resembling a pairing of a hammer and a mace. After moving back to the center of the training area, Vera circles Neya for a few quick seconds and nods to indicate that she is ready. She repeats: "First to three hits wins. Win or lose, this should be quick."
Marten releases a loud whistle and the bout begins. Neya advances a fraction of a second faster than Vera. The human has a chance at the first strike.
"I do indeed."Obsben replied nonchalantly. "But still, it doesn't any better. If anything, I'm surprised most people don't think the party has a habit of eating laxatives or bad food. And having eaten Sagin's food, that is most certainly not the case."She went on to say in a matter-of-fact tone. All the while she too kept her eyes on the sparring arena, fighting off the urge to even cheer least her latent magic or chaotic whimsy run amok.

Partially to test the weapon's balance and partially to prod Vera's defenses, Neya strikes twice.
Strike 1: 20 (21)
Strike 2: 10 (19)
(Edit: Wait I did the math wrong, she's proficient in all weapons forgot for a moment)
Graxx chuckles at the exchange between Utar and Obsben.
"We can't go changing our names now! We're starting be to known around these parts. People need to know when they deal with us they're dealing with folks who can get the job done."
(OOC: Just to be clear, we're going with Neya's 21 and 19 attack rolls)
Neya steps forward and surprises Vera with two quick snaps of her padded quarterstaff. The dwarven warrior grunts with each hit, her eye changing from surprised to excited. "My turn!" (Vera take 2 hits.)
She rushes forward with a weapon in each hand and attacks. She uses the "mace" as a feint before coming in with the "light hammer", a low kick, and two elbow strikes:
Just as quickly as Neya dished two blows, she takes two as well. Snapping to attention in a fraction of a second, Neya manages to parry the first elbow strike with her padded quarterstaff but does not react quickly enough to block the follow-up. As the third blow hits, the bout comes to a swift end. (Neya takes 3 hits.)
"Very good!" Vera says. "That was a thunderous bout! Lightnin' quick! Ya're good, very good. I wouldn't mind doing it again!"
"Hahahaha!" Marten cuts in with a hearty laugh. "Tremendous! What a bout!" He then looks o the other CRAPers and adds: "But these folks are 'ere on business, sweaty. Maybe they can return once their investigations are done."
Marten looks around as if checking if everyone is in accord.
Obsben looks back to Marten as if waiting for something to happen, before his intent finally appeared to don on her. "Oh yes, please. We still have a stop or two after this to get to, and shouldn't over indulge in passing fancies and challenges."She at least assured the dwarf, and could only hope the others did much the same. If, however, anyone ELSE seemed determined to perhaps eek out one more match out of "revenge" of Neya, then that'a be that. Though at that point she'd start rubbing her chin and reconsider waking a certain lazy simian for some on the side investigative work in the meantime.

The end of the bout takes Utar a little by surprise. Still, three hits to two: a close run thing. Clapping both Neya and Vera out of the sparring area, he nods towards Marten, "She's something else. There aren't many who out score Neya on hits."
Once regrouped, Utar nods towards the building. "Would we be able to see where the book was kept?"

"Good fight the both of you." Graxx states.
Graxx shakes his head in agreement with Obsben.
"Yes, we do have much to do and daylight is burning." says Graxx.
Once they start to walk toward where the book was kept(if they are allowed to go there) Graxx will casually look around to see if any of the students seem to be paying more attention to CRAP than their lessons.
"Shows I still have room to grow. Well done, Vera!" Neya says, extending her arm for a congratulatory handshake.
Afterwards, she dusts off the chalk and returns the training weapon. After gathering her stuff, she returns to the conversation.
"Come to think of it, we've become regulars at the Laughing Goblin. Do you suppose the current owners are aware of its history with Ren o' the Blade as well?"
Vera accepts Neya's handshake and comes closer for a subtle whisper: "Next time, don't 'old back." Upon returning the weapons to the rack, the human warrior once again clocks the familiar symbol of the Order of the Gauntlet hanging nearby.
CRAP, Marten, and the trainees all congratulate the two contestants as the conversation shifts back to the investigation. Despite his missing book, Marten seems to be in a much better mood now. He turns to face Obsben and Utar: "Yes, yes, let's look o'er the crime scene."
As the group begins to walk toward the Foss residence proper, Neya asks about the Laughing Goblin and gets the following response: "They'll 'ave 'eard the name, surely, but I 'ave me doubts they'd know more than the book can tell yas." Meanwhile, Graxx keeps an eye on the trainees, who have all surrounded Vera by now in a celebratory gathering. The warrior of Tempus sees no reason he should be suspicious.
Once inside, CRAP is led through a simple abode. The furniture here was designed and arranged to be functional, not aesthetic pleasing. Passing through a door, you arrive at Marten's study. You see a large but worn wooden table and a bookshelf covering no more than half a wall. The shelves are full but not "packed-full" of books. It would be hard to tell there was a missing tome in the collection given the many gaps in the rows of books. There are two windows in this room, which are closed and undamaged. Noticing you are looking at them, Marten preemptively comments with a tinge of guilt in his voice: "I don't always keep 'em closed...."He then reaches for a book in the bookshelves and shows it to you: "This'un's bound identically to the the missin' book. See 'ere, bound in red leather with black letterin' on the spine. The missin' one is smaller, though." He offers the book in his hands for anyone who would like to take a closer look: "Most of the collection is archived in Mantor's Library, but the stolen volume has special personal meanin' to me. I want nothin' more than it to be found safely. If yar schedule allows, please check on the rest of me collection and make sure that it is still safe in the Library."
Utar casts a studied eye around the room. He assumes that the windows might have been how a thief might have made access and then, having completed their task, egressed the building. Taking a closer look, he inspects the window surround and the frame of the window for any kind of snagged fabric or other such clues, because other than taking some books, there isn't much for the CRAPpers to go on.

"Are any of your students the particularly boisterous type? Or even envious? Or perhaps have been recently down on their luck in general?" Obby asks marten.. Upon getting her answer and at least completing her immediate investigations, she turns to look more directly at the dwarf and adds, "Do you have a spare ten minutes or so more? There's a spell I would like to cast that I hope will identify any traces of spell upon you. Think of it as... a precaution. Though if you prefer not, then I shall respect your wishes. Though I will need about the same amount of time to prepare another spell to aid in further investigations here."
