Davak also enters the room and looks around, shuddering at the sight. "Oh bugger, this looks familiar. Looks like it might be a shrine to Lolth. I'm not sure, but I am sure this is not a place where nothin' good happens."

Finally managing to get up, onto the Emperor, panting, he follows the crowd just in time to hear "Lolth".

"Why are you talking ab-" He notices the spider webs. "Oh." He takes a step back. "Shit."

Why spiders? Just... Why? He thinks to himself. His only solace is that webbing is usually easy to burn away.

Nivi hisses in revulsion upon hearing the name Lolth.  She may not have anything against duergar or even drow personally, but the evil demonic deity of drow and spiders is another matter.  She steps into the room with extreme caution, rapier drawn and tries to sense any threats or hazards, completely on guard as is her owl Shiv on her shoulder.  Slowly doing a 360, and poking at the refuse as needed, on a hair-trigger for any threat.

"Blood on the decks.  Spider demon queen altar near the stern.  I already hate this ship.  Be ready boys.  Someone or something really nasty has was here, or still is," she whispers.

(Nivi's passive Perception is 15 but I'll roll for her and Shiv too, who gets advantage due to owls' Keen Hearing and Sight.)

As the party comes into the room, the webs and debris start to shuffle about. And as Najax approaches the altar, it becomes more apparent as you all notice two sets of 8 eyes locking onto Najax. A few spiders come up from between the floorboards, scurrying away from any light but you can hear more of them crawling about.

(Mostly just an athletics check to smash it.)

Najax hits the altar with his great sword.

"Uh.. There's... I can see if I can light the room on fire? Would that help?" Brand asks, conjuring a small flame to dance in the palm of his hand.

Najax's sword cleaves into the stone altar partially, but as a he'd tried to bring it back out, it's caught upon the rough stone.

(Will require an athletics check to pull the sword from the stone. DC 12)

And when Najax struck the altar, the eyes start to hiss and come out from the debris. An ettercap emerges from the left while a giant spider crawls up from the stairs. More spiders emerge from between the floor boards as four masses of spiders form near the party.

Bloody f-ing Lolth.  Nivi curses in Elvish under her breath.  "If one of these damn swarms gets on you, don't stay put," she shouts to her companions.

Nivi's owl Shiv flies to the spider swarm just south of her and takes the help action, before using owls' Flyby feature to fly back to Nivi's shoulder without provoking an opportunity attack.  Action:  She swipes at the swarm with her Rapier and the Booming Blade cantrip.

To hit swarm just south of her (at advantage due to help or flanking, rolling 3d20s due to Elven Accuracy feat):  25
Rapier 1d8+4 damage:  10 piercing
Sneak attack 2d6 damage:  7 piercing
Booming Blade 1d8 damage if target moves on its turn:  8 thunder

Total damage if it all applies:  10 + 7 + 8 = 25 (17 piercing and 8 thunder).

NOTE:  If Nivi already had advantage from flanking with Najax, Shiv takes the help on the swarm after her attack, helping the next attack.

Bonus Action:  with Shiv on her shoulder, Nivi uses Cunning Action to disengage and backs 25’ out of of the room (northern door).

Dobin marks the swarm as his Favored Foe and raises his sword and brings it down on the Swarm just south of his position. Hen then directs the panther to attack the same one
