Duanphen watched the scene play out with a bemused smile, theft was not uncommon in the Market but she saw no need to step in and prevent some onions from going astray....luckily it seemed no violence was in the offing and the khon tahng prateht* seemed to have things in hand, she nodded approval as one attempted to provide compensense. It was unlikely the little Luk Mangkr had much copper in its purse.
She popped another kratom leaf in and chewed it relishing the buzz.
She stepped forward slightly intrigued by the mention of a song...
( Duanphen is 5'1 with lean muscled limbs dressed in a saffron pha chung hang and sky blue silk blouse, her hair is purple-gray and her skin light bronze with henna-like tatoos over her hands, forearms and shoulders.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Mirri tugs one of the green onions from the shopkeeper's unresisting hand and raises it above her head, her birdpipes to her lips in her other hand, piping a happy tune before breaking into a limerick:
A kobold with polished horns and a purple and gold silk dress stomps to the squabblers. “That's enough, Lamai! You're acting no better than our parents, stealing from me, and attacking my son!” “I watched him take a bushel of onions from my stand!” Lamai growls back. The young kobold replies,“But I watched you take them first! And then you knocked over our stand!”
Upon hearing the gray kobold’s suggestion, the young Gammon points out to his mother that it's just a few onions, and that he had overreacted. “Now Gammon, don’t apologize, you did what any reasonable person would do.” She notices you (all of the characters) and turns her attention away from the fuming Lamai. “You! You strangers look like capable sorts. I’m Kusa Xungoon, proprietor of market-famous Xungoon Family Seafood: for a fish typhoon, you’ll wish for Xungoon! Help us deal with this scoundrel, and I'll make it worth your while!” “Scoundrel?!” the gnome shouts, turning your way. “You don't look like you're wrapped up in market politics. I'm LamaiTyenmo. Help me figure out what's going on here, and I'll give you a lifetime supply of delicious noodles from Tyenmo Noodles!” Both women turn back to each other quarreling anew over what they’ll offer you in exchange for helping them.
“There is no need… to fight. Both of you seem to be… good people. If you both can accept this might be a misunderstanding, I will gladly help… for free”
the large lizardman takes a moment to directly look at both women to see if they accept the offer.
"None of you are scoundrels, I'm sure. It's a delicious discombobulation!" Mirri munches on the onion like you might an apple, chewing ruminantly. "I would love to help you get to the bottom of this culinary confusion in return for free eats and learning some of your cooking secrets, but I have to bring up the uncomfortable topic of cash. Even a humble entertainer like myself needs occasional assistance into solvency, and I'm sure these other fine people would appreciate remuneration, even our sizeable scaly friend here, no matter his protestations. Are you able to add a little gold to the pot?
She turns to the group. "Are any of you citizens of this land? We'll need some local insight--" she glances significantly at the still-squabbling shopkeepers, "-- impartial local insight to work out the truth here."
(not sure if I need a persuasion roll for the asking for gold, but just in case: persuasion18 )
Medqull shakes his head at the squabbling. "Dear me, such fuss over so little," he mutters to his attendant, "It's one bunch of onions, Yarace. What could it cost, ten silver?"
Asked to investigate, he claps his hands together in delight. "Oh I do love a mystery. What fun, eh?"

Duanphen moved up next to Mirri, and touched her gently on the shoulder, " Do you really think this is about onions? Look at them. This is about family....and families can be complicated. I'll admit I spend more time in the hills than the Market but perhaps what is needed is a more political tack."
Mirri turns to look at Duanphen and nods, smiling brightly and grasping the hand on her shoulder.
"You might be right about the family politics. It is not something I am very familiar with. At times like this I miss Skola Vale, where all "politics" are solved with a revel, and rivalries melt away in the pleasure of a dance. What is your name, friend? And yours--?" She nods to the others left after the gawking bystanders drifted away.
"I am Mirri Goldenhorn, humble bard." An ironic grin and a bow accompany the pronouncement.
Duanphen smiled at Mirri, " My name is Duanphen, Nong Mirri."
She raised her voice slightly, " The Xungoon and Tyenmo families are both equally respected long standing supporters and mainstays of the Night Markets. I for one am happy to take some time out from my important work as a mo phi to assist these honorable and valued members of our community.", her sentence ended with a heavy finality.
" Pleased to meet you P''Ravo, I am Duanphen."
" Now, can we please have a clear and concise explanation of what is troubling your families; just the facts; I wish to hear no accusations or suppositions."
Ravo begins to slowly maneuver himself out of sitting, and stands fully upright once more. The tone in his voice shifts from being slow and soft spoken, to a distinct bitterness of frustration.
"I have... no interest in furthering discord... or choosing sides in matters I know little of. Let alone being paid for such things... there is no honor in needless strife"
He does a brief turn of his head, scanning the other individuals present that have appeared.
"It would seem the others gathered here... are willing to help you for your money"
Duanphen nodded to Ravo in approval, " I will assist both houses in equal measure and for nothing more than bringing harmony back to OUR market. "
She turned to the others, " I suggest each of you choose a family to assist and then we share the workload."
She looked Kusa and Lamai up and down, " Assuming you actually want the troubles fixed and are not just using this unfortunateness as an excuse to parade around like territorial chickens?"
"The truth takes no sides." Mirri contributes. "Your houses are alike in dignity and delicious foods, and we will need to talk to each family's compatriots without bias.
"Hmm... noodles. I vote we visit Lamai's stall first and have some supper while we're there? C'mon, Ravo: you may not want gold but I'm sure you wouldn't say no to some noodles while we work. Spotty, how about you?"
She looks over to Medqull and Yarace. "Are you joining us, friends, or do you prefer to start with seafood?"
As an aside to Duanphen, hopefully without the shopkeepers hearing: "What can you tell us about the background to these families' strife?"and more loudly, "What's a 'mo phi'? Sounds like an important role."

"There once was a gnome from Dyn Singh
Who had many veggies to ring,
They were such fine quality
People owed her apology
As they dined on them fit for a king!"

Duanphen examined the older kobold trying to recall them.

Hearing the commotion, the grey kobold runs over. "Hey, hey, they're just onions. Can't you just share them?"

Probably the closest pictures I could find to compare Ravo's appearance
"My name is... Ravo (Rah-vo)" replying to Mirri's introduction, also giving a nod in return
Duanphen smiled at Mirri, " My name is Duanphen, Nong Mirri."

"My name's Spotty," says the kobold. "Mind if I come along?"
"Now that you're all acquainted, who are you going to help? I'll give you 100 gp in exchange for assisting us!" Kusa snaps, annoyed.
"I'll give you 100 gp, and all the free noodles you could ever eat!" Lamai offers, still glaring at the kobolds.
Ravo begins to slowly maneuver himself out of sitting, and stands fully upright once more. The tone in his voice shifts from being slow and soft spoken, to a distinct bitterness of frustration.
