“You must be a master alchemist or a professor in an academy,” Burt bursts out in awe when he observes Renn’s handiwork in the lab. “I could learn so much from you. Please, do not hesitate to call on me if you need an assistant for your work, “ he calls after Renn.
Certain that Renn will not likely return to this lab, Burt finds it prudent to remove the more expensive components, what can be easily broken by kids, and what cannot easily be replaced. He leaves the rest in place for the entertainment of other guests.
After the work in the couple’s bedroom and the prep of the lab, Burt takes a short break and gets a refreshment, commenting his experience so far to his fellow companions. Then with a few extra treats in his pockets, he’s going to search for the halfling kids. Hopefully, they aren’t as mischievous as they appeared at first glance.

Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
Certain that Renn will not likely return to this lab, Burt finds it prudent to remove the more expensive components, what can be easily broken by kids, and what cannot easily be replaced. He leaves the rest in place for the entertainment of other guests.
But what's this? The most expensive component is missing!
Gil and Chester are having a quiet conversation at the stern of the ship.
Chester's brow furrows. "I say, chap, you're quite right. Well, if the crew can keep the bugs away from me, then my first choice would to be to go ashore and collect the flowers myself. Failing that, you could help me to access the ship's food stores and prepare a special picnic lunch for her while she's in the flower field?"
" I'll check with the others regarding the insects."
On noting that a rather expensive component went missing, Burt tries to see if he can make sense of anything that Renn did with the lab. Burt isn't a hardened specialist but he's proficient with his set, did this gnome just made a fool of him? Did he actually do anything alchemical at the lab or was it a ruse?
(Alchemical Tool check to see if Burt can recognise or retrace Renn's step - same skill level as Investigation: 8)
Either way, Burt reports to the captain that a piece of equipment went missing after Renn interacted with it, just to be sure. He takes his leave, commenting, "I'd like to point out to you that I could set a magical alarm trap on sensitive areas, equipment or anything else, really, if you'd like."

Burt listens to Gil laying out Chester's dilemma, and says "I've worked with an apiarist once when I thought I could sweeten beer with honey... Well, I digress. I've heard that some natural smells are not appreciated by bee folk. Vinegar and peppermint are two examples. Perhaps, some way to spray one of these odours around Chester while he plucks flowers would deter the bees to approach him, or even scare them away from him when he approaches. That's not magical in any way, and certainly not fool-proof but it might improve his chances at not getting stung. Not sure, though, that I would recommend him to try it, if he is highly allergic. I can help with relieving some pain, but - if something goes south - a full allergic reaction is beyond my skill. Still, if he is willing to try this, I could fashion an item that produces the smell magically, one or the other or even both."

It doesn't seem like any major reaction has occurred. Perhaps Renn has simply palmed it?
Captain Circuit dismisses the suggestion that Renn may have taken something. "That fellah isn't quite all there, if you ask me. I wouldn't be surprised if he nicked things. This magical alarm, though... could be useful. Could you set one on my cabin door?"
Captain Circuit announces that you've almost reached the flower field.
Soon ahead you spot an area of the riverbank that is wide and flat, with many lilypads. The shore slopes up and away from the river gently, and there the thick trees of the jungle have been replaced by an open area covered in flowers of many varieties. It's a bright multihued explosion of colors and pleasant scents, which already waft towards you. This flowery meadow is nestled between two craggy rocky ledges, which gradually taper together further up the slope away from the river. As you approach, it is easy to spot many small birds, butterflies, bees and other insects flitting all about. All in all it's like a secret magical nook, something out of a fairy tail.
The halflings and Kress gaze at it with awe and excitement, but Chester looks nervous. Renn's eyes scan up and down the meadow, and he grips his bug-catching net tightly in his hands.
Last-minute bug-repellant discussion before it's time to disembark?
Morgran is suspicious. This is too good to be true. Nature... is rarely like this, placing a safe and beautiful haven in the midst of deadly territory. Morgran scans the field for danger.
Burt, disheartened from the captain’s dismissive stance towards Renn’s action, promises to install an alarm at the captain’s quarters but tells Parth about it and proposes to exclude him, Parth, from raising an alarm unbeknownst to the captain. This way Parth might be able to enter when the captain goes on-shore. During installation of the alarm Burt will demonstrate to the captain how the loud mental alarm is raised in the captain’s mind when he, Burt, passes through the door, but not when the captain himself enters. He notes that the alarm can be disarmed by an able spell caster and only lasts 8 hours and he needs to remain within a mile to get notified.
To Parth he suggests to not take guard duty on the ship but double back in an opportune moment to investigate.

Morgran, there’s not much to see from your position on the boat. But if you want to be the first to disembark and scout the area before anyone else gets off, you may do so with a persuasion check to convince the others to wait a bit, and survival check for the scouting.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Alright, I guess I'll do that.
Morgran asks the captain, "My I disembark first in order to make sure that the meadow is secure? Nature rarely places a safe, beautiful, haven enclosed by deadly forest on all sides. I want to make sure that there are no... nasty surprises waiting for us."
(Well, at least there is a small chance for Von Karma to come in. I like this campaign so far, so I am going to spectate either way.)

Gil nodded, " That would help a lot....but your right its definitely not worth the risk."
Morgran hears of this talk of Chester leaving the ship.
"If you're leaving this ship for whatever reason, I'm coming with you. In the captain's words: This jungle is no picnic."

Captain Circuit seems a bit annoyed by your fastidiousness but he waves a hand impatiently,
"Yes yes, go, that's only prudent, but be quick about it, we are on a schedule."
(Survival check for scouting the area)
Morgran exits the boat and searches around the meadow. Dice gods, please don't curse me again.

OK, Morgran is going to disembark first and scout out the flower field (result incoming)
Meanwhile Burt has suggested to Parth to stay behind and check out the captain's cabin
Also meanwhile Gil is asking Parth and the other adventurers about possible makeshift insect repellant
Kress is gazing eagerly out at the flower field, clapping her hands excitedly
The halfling kiddos are bouncing on the balls of their feet, excited to get off the boat and run around
Chester is looking nervously out at the field, appears to be torn on whether to accompany Kress or stay behind
