Backstory: Osprey grew up the son of Eldara, an esteemed Elven sage who never wanted to speak about who his father was.His (older) half brother Nils had an Elven father who was killed when both of them were young children.Growing up in Nils’ shadow Osprey always had a reclusive, somewhat shy temperament, preferring the company of the animals and plants in the nearby wood to social life in town or the seemingly endless studies in his mother's library.
Why has your character come to Dragon's Rest?: When his brother never returned from an expedition to the Sword Coast, Osprey set out to look for Nils following a lead to Stormwreck Isle.
Name: Alkyn Race: High Half-Elf Class: Rogue/Trickster Background: Charlatan Backstory:
Originally indentured as apprentice to the wizard Melanath, Alkyn found himself unable to resist the charm and intelligence of wizard's daughter, Elirion. While he and Elirion happily made plans for a life together, Melanath would have none of it. Alkyn found himself framed for the theft of several valuable items from the wizard's collection, and soon on the run. Elirion...moved on.
So it was that Alkyn found himself thrown in with those who actually practised those things of which he had been accused. Always a quick learner, and fast on his feet, he realised that he had inadvertantly discovered his true calling. When not working for his guild he spent much of his spare time victimizing both Melanath and his clients until he finally drew the full attention of the wizard (whose clientele had been diminishing) and was forced to leave town hurriedly.
Why has your character come to Dragon's Rest?: Alkyn has been chased out of one too many towns – never any evidence, of course, but always a lot of suspicion – and is now seeking to lie low for a time. A remote island with the promise of anonymity and perhaps treasure is not an opportunity to pass up.
Backstory: Marten is the eldest son of the Count Martin Devonshire the 3rd. His mother an elf ambassador died shortly after child birth. His father remarried to a human and had many sons. As they grew up it was clear that Marten did not have the ambition of his full blooded human brothers. His name was changed from Martin Devonshire the 4th to Marten Devonshire, was given insignificant lands at the Waterford and pushed aside as the heir to his father's lands and title.
Marten was happy away from the main house and found a passion in song and performance. But as his youngest brother came of age his father had no more lands to give without taking it from someone else. So at the suggestion of the Lady Devonshire, Marten's lands were given to his brother and he was sent to Dragon's Rest to learn enlightenment to better be an adviser to his younger bothers.
Race: Dragonborn (Subrace to be discussed with DM)
Class: Sorcerer (Draconic bloodline)
Background: Folk Hero
Backstory: Quip, unlike many Dragonborn you might meet, is a direct descendant of a dragon. She carries this fact like a mantle in her daily life and often uses her heritage to influence her community and fight for the "little guy" against a government that ignores all incentives other than cold hard coin.
Why has your character come to Dragon's Rest?: She has ruffled one too many feathers and has come to Dragonrest to seek out her parent(s) and escape from those that would see her dead
Name: Ichika Miyamoto Race: Human Class: Fighter Background: Acolyte
Backstory: Ichika’s father, Nagato Miyamoto was a master in the arts of war. Being the town mayor and the leader of the town shrine, he was conscripted as a general when the war time came. Nagoto served as a general for more of it than he did otherwise. Yet despite his manifold duties and responsibilities, the greatest burden this placed upon his soul was that it robbed him of time to father the children he hoped to. In fact, his first-born was the only child he would bear and, to his dismay, that child was a girl.
Ichika, being female and a noble, was on a path to become a shrine priestess before she could even say her first words. Growing up, she never knew a time when her father wasn’t assisting with the war. He would return in his fine armour and, usually, only be home long enough to attend to civic and temple affairs, and to do his best to put another baby in his wife.
The almost continual talk of war inevitably rubbed off on young Ichika. She saw her father’s armour and weapons. She saw the men training and, as the war raged on, even women. She knew that it was only with great reluctance that women were admitted to the army, and only because losses were so great and times were so desperate.
So many soldiers were lost on the front lines that the army began a special conscription program, focussing on bringing young people into training. The belief was that better results could be gained by recruiting young, the wisdom being: “Put a sword in a farmer’s hand and he will swing it like a threshing fork, for farming is what he knows. Put a sword in a child’s hand and it will teach him how to swing it as a weapon, for the child knows no other way.”
Ichika was seven years old when this announcement was made. To her ears, the announcement was calling to her directly. This was to be her path to greatness, to gain her father’s affection. No longer would she have to learn the boring intricacies of the rituals and philosophies of the shrine or the tedious concepts of ‘enlightenment’ which seemed so far removed from what Ichika actually saw in the world.
Sure enough, Nagato volunteered Ichika for the program, and her training began. She threw herself into it with great enthusiasm. Though each time she returned home, her heart was broken as she realised that her father paid no regard to any of her achievements. But Ichika kept faith. Her father was a master of war. There would surely be a degree of master that she could eventually reach to earn his respect.
Eventually, Ichika came of age to begin her service in the army. Nagato Miyamoto led the first campaign she joined. Ichika was to serve indirectly under her own father. Her heroic deeds would reach his ears quickly. It was her great opportunity.
The battle was a bloodbath. Thousands of men and women were slaughtered that day. But Ichika had survived. Not only survived, but was among the few elite warriors responsible for the victory, when they managed to push back the defenders.
When the battle was drawing to a close, Ichika sought out her father. She was eager to ensure that he knew of what she had done. But when she found General Nagato, he was lying injured in an orderly’s tent. He had been struck by several heavy crossbow bolts at great distance, and suffered serious injuries to his legs and abdomen. Ichika rushed to his side, even though she knew she shouldn’t. Out here, he was her general, not her father. But she couldn’t help herself, and nobody dared to stop her.
Nagato would not make eye contact with her. Ichika could not understand why. The orderlies explained that Nagato’s injuries were not fatal and that he would recover. Ichika tried to hearten her father with the stories of her deeds, certain that he would be roused with pride.
But Nagato would not hear any of it. Ichika would later learn that her father had suffered such injuries that, although he would live and continue to lead the army, there was no chance he would ever be able to sire a child again. His hopes of having a male heir had died on the battlefield, and not even the greatest of Ichika’s deeds could disperse that cloud.
A week later, Ichika received word that her father was sending her back home. She was dismissed from military service and was to resume her duties at the shrine. If she was to be the only heir he would have, then he wanted to ensure she remained alive and learned to be a woman desirable to a well-suited husband.
Even the captain of Ichika’s unit was perplexed at this, and distraught to lose one of his best fighters. But he was in no position to argue. Ichika had been commanded to leave the war and return home. She had no choice.
Well, not entirely, at least.
Ichika did not return home, nor resume her temple service. She held onto her armour, her weapon, and kept going. Somewhere out there were deeds of valour and honour even greater. She would find them, she would conquer them, and she would show her father how wrong he was to think that a shrine priestess and a wife was all he could be proud of her as.
Why has your character come to Dragon's Rest?: To seek “enlightment” as the people at the shrine had called it, and decide for herself if disobeying her father and leaving home was the right choice.
Backstory: Jedda's home village near Iron Keep in Oman's Isle was razed by zombies when she was small(er), giving her the impetus to become a ranger, so to protect the natural world from beings she sees as unnatural, like the undead. She began to follow the religion of Bahamut after witnessing a dragon taking out a horde of undead. She has a suspicious nature from spending so much time in the wilderness, although she loves a joke.
Why has your character come to Dragon's Rest?: She has come to the monastery to ask the god Bahamut for assistance in ridding her homelands of the undead who are more than she can take out on her own. She is hoping to eventually become a Drakewarden.
Name: Abaddon (applying for two campaigns; if I get selected for one, I'll have to drop out of the other.) (also, I hope I don't get zapped by that blue dragon)
Race: Topaz Dragonborn.
Class: Paladin (Oath of Vengeance)
Background: Noble (Knight, retainers)
Backstory: Abaddon was born into a corrupt, yet noble family of knights. His family pushed him to become a murderous monster; they even named him Abaddon, which means "death" and/or "destruction". Abaddon refused, not sure why, until he realized that his family was lying to him. They told him to attack a town, which he did, and he single handedly destroyed it. The next day, he overheard his family plotting to kill him to elevate their status. That was when he realized that his family was using him, and depicting him as a deadly and dangerous figure so that when they captured him, they would gain lots of money and power. He escaped the kingdom after swearing an oath to [a LN god of justice. I'll fill this in later] that he would slay his family. Eventually, he realized how much evil was in the world, and he amended his oath to include purging the world of darkness, and then cleansing the darkness inside of himself. He's at Dragon's Rest because it's the brightest and most good place he can think of and reach as of right now, and he's making sure that it remains a safe haven for all.
Backstory: Initiate 12 came to the monastery in a basket. His mother, a poor girl abandoned by a frivolous lover, had no means to care for him and hoped the monks would. She did not know that it was a monastery devoted to the martial arts. Initiate 12 grew up without a name, but he nonetheless grew up loved. The monks and other initiates could be stern and demanding, but such was their discipline. They were never abusive nor cruel; all praise and punishment was given with equal justice. Initiate 12 grew tall and lean and quite dextrous. Only 14, he was chosen to join the monks' annual expedition outside the walls of their home. They travelled a circuit of nearby towns and cities. Initiate 12 would perform before the crowds, engaging in mock-fights and acrobatic displays of power and agility. Others of the monks would offer healing and sell various crafts and potions that the monks had made. It was the best year of his life. Now, at 18, he has been told to find his place in the universe; to make the connection that will define his role in this life, to earn a name. He has no idea what it might entail, but he has been dreaming of dragons.
Why has your character come to Dragon's Rest?: He has been told that this is the last place that dragons are found, so he is following what his dreams have shown him.
Backstory: Even as a youthful beardling Thulewyn never felt at ease under the mountain as a dwarf would be expected to be. He felt it was wrong for take so much from the ground that would never be replenished. He would sneak up to the surface to play under the open sky, witness the circle of life within the animal kingdom and plant life. He always felt that he wanted to live that way, as part of a bigger whole. He certainly didn't feel the need to stop the Dwarfs from mining or protest the use of products of those labors, but he did feel he didn't need to take part either.
As time went on, and he grew a beard if his own and his top hair vanished, he discovered he love of adventuring and signed up for an archeological team heading to the tundra. The elements turned out to be more then the group had expected. Thulewyn had no experience in the snowy cold, but somehow felt like he could understand what the land had to offer. The group started relying on him to survive in the horrible conditions as only he was able to find any shelter and what little for food there was. After an unexpected storm hit the camp, destroying thier make shift shelter, scattering the team. Thulewyn never saw them again. Surviving on his own proved more difficult then when he did it for the team. Less mother to feed bit more manpower and supplies with the team.
Thulewyn returned back to the mountain, with a masive bear skull as a hat with a white pelt cloak and strange feathers all around it. He never told the people how he survived but the legend started to grow of dwarf who went crazy in ice and snow besting a giant albino bear by himself. He found he felt more comfortable in nature by himself then surrounded by folks under the stone.
Why has your character come to Dragon's Rest?: Tired as being seen as an attraction for people to find in the woods as sport as his ledgend/rumors grew, Thulewyn decided to pack up and travel to what he had heard as a calmer place. He still longed for social interaction as he more social with surfaces then most Dwarfs are and still looking for adventure despite limited knowledge of the world.

Name: Medrash "Seeker" Shardelath
Race: Dragonborn, red dragon
Class: Monk
Background: Haunted On
Backstory:
Medrash “Seeker” Shardelath was always an inquisitive child and naturally gravitated toward the small gnomish monastery on the outskirts of the town of Amphail. Dedicated to god Nebelun and focusing on the god’s knowledge aspect, it was a natural fit for the inquisitive dragonborn. Though he faced some prejudice when he began attending classes and not a few jokes about his appearance and size, the abbot of the monastery, a wise old gnome named Bimpnottin Timbers, saw in the young dragonborn a kindred spirit. She encouraged his studies, though she did not protect him for the prejudice he endured, knowing that as a dragonborn of red dragon descent he would face far worse in the world.
She encouraged his pursuit of knowledge, and was the first to call him “Little Seeker” which eventually became just “Seeker.” However, it was this pursuit of knowledge which lead Medrash to a profound and shattering discovery. He had long wondered why in a town with many families of dragonborn, his was the only one of red dragon descent. Finally, on a day when his mother was away in Waterdeep with their latest caravan of goods and his father was journeying north to Neverwinter to pickup a consignment, Seeker rummaged in the family library looking for something new to read. He found a locked drawer and his curiosity overcame his manners.
Eventually, he got the drawer open and found it contained some legal documents and an old book, a journal. The journal was old…very old and written in a very old dialect of draconic but he was adept at languages and puzzled it out over the next couple of days. And his world came shattering around him. He had been raised to respect others, treat them with dignity and honesty and he believed their dragon ancestry to be some unknown red dragon of no importance and less fame. But the journal…the journal told a different tale. It said his family was directly descended from one of the worst red dragons to ever live: Sharruth.
He’d heard the tale, of course, of her battle with other dragons, her imprisonment and certain death beneath the waves of the island now known as Stormwreck. But that she was his ancestor? It could not be. But he had to know. Leaving a note for his parents, he left home to journey to Stormwreck and learn the truth for himself.
Why has your character come to Dragon's Rest?: To learn if his truly descended from Sharruth
Backstory:Moriancumer grew up in a place with a very militant society, and joined the army as a scout as soon as he came of age. After he was done with that, he began taking bounty Hunter and gladiator jobs, going wherever he could find adventure, combat, and most importantly…gold
