Akkron glances down at a large magic ring on the nearly-skeletal middle finger of his right hand. There's only one charge left, the other two used long ago in his quest to obtain immortality... perhaps now it is time to use the final Wish.
"There is something else that I could do which might make our task easier... I brought a Ring of Three Wishes with me, but there is only one Wish left. Once we've cleared and fortified this building, we should probably sit down and discuss the best way to use this final Wish."
Plenty of rubble around is either destroyed beyond use or too ornamental to be useful. You do find a squat, square shaped building with an inner courtyard and rooms for everyone. It's meager furnishings and difficult outside entry indicates it was once a priory, and your amount of scouting will get you enough scrap religious finary to fortify it with a ladder and tapestries to keep the sand out.
Lorlin: You cast true seeing. You've seen into the etherial plane many times before, making sense of the swirl of lights and occasional ghosts that flit by. However, here its like you're catching those moments ever few seconds in snapshots. Flashes will appear close, far and then close again. An occasional limb? will pop out of nowhere and then disappear. Some piles of destroyed church matter are in both the material and physical plane while other areas are light-sucking black voids.
There is a low area among tall buildings that seems to be glowing with some consistency - small, concentric circles of gold and stone statues ring what could have been a well or a fountain. It reminds you of a meditation labyrinth though here it feels more like a graveyard.
Dabbert: So far this place seems to be always at sunset. A dull purple sky. The only time a torch or dark vision would come in handy would be in searching below ground or in a shadowed area.
*Also your stealth rolls were great and will come in hopefully soon. also my computer won't let me unbold things.
Other features deeper into this town you find include an opulent granite pool now cracked and sand-filled and a tall lookout tower that appears to be diagonally bisected.
"I uh...a wish? How about I wish for a cold drink." Dabbert says as he pushes open another door and continued his sweep.
How tall is this building? Is there a vantage point where we could get a good look at our surroundings? Apologies if that's already been answered; I missed it.
Building is about 15 feet tall - average height of the local rubble. There is a tower about 45ft tall that appears to be slashed disgonally. It’s looks stable enough though might not offer the best cover.
(How many skeletons, and do they have weapons/armor scraps? Akkron is seriously considering animating them and putting them in charge pummeling Beholders on the basis that they won't immediately disappear/collapse into a pile of bones if placed in an Antimagic Field.)
"I want to avoid this if I can,"Akkron sighs as he and the ghost collect the skeletons into a few neat piles somewhere relatively out of the way for the rest of the party. "But it might be worth considering animating these skeletons to help us deal with whatever else is out there. It's not something I especially want to do, though... it doesn't feel right to raise them to fight without their permission."
He pauses for a moment, then adds somberly. "And... Marin might start to get a little jealous if she sees me creating undead servants. My little girl always wanted so badly to be the center of my life... when we both had lives..."
Dab watches Slip and Akkron investigate the skeletons, and reaches out with the point of his short sword to hook one of them by the ribs and push it around.
"I'd really like to get into that tower a block or so over and get a look at the city from up high." Dabbert says. He runs his fingers through his hair as he thinks. "I know the familiar has had a look around, but I really would like to get eyes on as much as possible myself. Nothing like our own eyes, you uh...understand? Or does anyone else have a better solution for a higher altitude reconnaissance?"
"That's not a bad idea"Akkron says. "I can go ahead and join you while Lorlin and Slip finish taking care of whatever needs to be done here... the tower looks relatively stable from here, but seeing how badly damaged it is probably best not to put too much strain on it with the weight of two living people until we're sure it's safe to do so."
"Well, yes, we can speak generally as people"Akkron says. "But my thought was that I'd be at less risk of stepping on a weak spot and going through the floor since I weigh a lot less than anyone else here..."
(Note: a human male skeleton weighs an average of 27.5 pounds... even with everything he's carrying, Akkron weights at most about 45 to 50 pounds)

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
As far as your skeletal investigations go, you find about 10 or so of bodies sort of laying in vertical coffins. They are missing their skulls, but after clearing out all the rooms Akkron find an assortment sort of stacked into slots in the wall. It might take some trial and error to match up the right skull to its body. (There is also enough decomposition around them to maybe turn some sand into fertilizer.)

Last question then; is the tower part of the same building, or is it in the distance? And if it's a distance, how far is it?

Different structures. The tower, your base, the pool, and the graveyard are all within a few blocks of each other.

Is there anything we need to clear out of the base, or are we good to move in?

There are a few skeletons you can keep if you want the company but other than that you’re good to move in:
