Akkron can't help but wonder what's going on with the seemingly lifeless head being used as a lookout... are they dealing with an undead threat? If they are... that could make this significantly easier.
(Is there some check I can make to figure out what we're fighting, or do we just not have enough information since they're behind a wall?)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Totally: The head dips down after noticing nothing but you get a brief look at it. Roll intelligence to mentally scroll through all the monsters you’ve met in the past and see if one matches or investigation to make a connection to some of the environmental damage you found earlier. A divination spell could make things more apparent as well.
Dabbert hunkers down and keeps his halberd ready. He glances around to the party, then looks at the creatures. He keeps his movements subtle. He waves a hand over his face, palm outward, to get everyone's attention on him for a moment. He then points at himself, then to the targets, then slides a finger across his throat before raising his eyebrows inquisitively like he's communicating a question...
Glass on the sand. Scorch marks. The evidence you found earlier and the intensity of the torchlight tells you that you’re dealing with some human-height fire beings. Also, since the fat one hasn’t appeared again, it was probably up on something and not actually 10ft tall.
Akkron considers the situation... he doesn't want to say anything out loud for fear of alerting these... um... people...? to the party's presence. He considers the possibility that these entities might not be hostile... but given the situation at hand, the previous encounter, and what he has determined the creatures likely are, it seems extremely unlikely. He nods to Dabbert, giving the soldier the go-ahead to try and sneak around behind the entities for an ambush.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dab takes a breath and nods his head before sneaking forward, really paying attention to his footfalls and movements until he's within range. Then, when he is satisfied with his position, he takes a deep breath and starts his attack.
"Alala!" He cries, reanimating his shield and causing it to circle around on his left side as he throws everything he's got at the big guy, reaching out with his halberd and trying to use the flat side of it to inflict non-lethal damage...just in case...
Dabbert will be holding his Reactionto use either Opportunity Attack or Polearm Master Opportunity Attack if anyone enemy moves close enough or away from him, Riposte if they attack him and miss, or his Skirmisher movement.
Attacks against Dabbert currently have Disadvantage due to Cloak of Displacement.
Dabbert, your faithful shield spins around and smashes something out of your way in a crack of smoke and sparks. Whatever it was, its out of the way for now as you bravely race towards the Big Problem(tm). You swing with the flat of your blade, pulling your punch until you realize this thing is much bigger than you anticipated. But that's never stopped you in the past as your halberd continues its surgical dissection. Steel flashes and ichor splashes. Soaked with blood and scleral fluid, you wipes your eyes and face your foes.
Noting that Dab and Slip are wailing on the giant brute, Akkron decides to go after one of the two flaming... um... things. He casts Summon Undead at 6th level, calling forth a ghostly spirit of a young woman.
"Go forth, child," the lich whispers tenderly, with obvious pain in his voice. "Destroy the beasts that threaten us."
The ghost rushes forward, passing through the wall and tearing into the scythe-wielding flame creature, the ghost striking with its chilling grasp of death (note: the spirit is buffed by the Undead Thralls Necromancer subclass ability).
While the beast glares at Dab with it's remaining eyes, Slipdelivers a trio of knuckle sandwiches down its flabby back. Getting a vibration takes longer than expected. It's both floating and incredibly jiggly. While you're honing your focus the fiery reaper rushes towards your unprotected side, but before it can lower its scythe a small ghost crawls through the wall, up the monster and reaches into its heart. Thrashing and babbling in celestial, the creature's bright orange flame turns to oily black smoke. (You can't see her, Akkron, but a little smile creeps across her face.)
Lorlin, you're up. (May Boccob's mercy be with you.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lorlin, floating near the front of the group in her shining armor, sizes up the injured eyeball creature, and with a word of magic from her lips, a bell tolls (casting toll the dead for 30 necrotic damage. Almost simultaneously, a (BA) spiritual weapon at 6th level of a glowing staff of force attacks, the eye if it lives, or the remaining skeletal flaming creature if the eye is dead…
The giant eyeball monster writhes in pain at the sound of your magic. Flesh decays and drops to reveal its skeletal skull of a body while its limbs wriggle in pain. Mercy sends your holy weapon rocketing through its body, putting it out of its misery.
With the fire reaper currently choked with fear only one monster can take action. Flames leap from its hand as the iron wheel glows a dull red. It hurls the wheel in a boomerang arc, apparently under some form of magical control as it seeks out Slip,Dabbert, and spins skyward towards Lorlin.
