"Sounds a little like... a vampire," Rel whispers.
"Only if it really were a vampire, we would all be dead or worse right now. Is everyone all right? Nice work. Did anyone see where Zane went?"
Reaching for Guidance, she peeks into the next room and if it appears clear, ventures in and looks around, appearing confident in case anyone is watching. Like she belongs here. The no-nonsense brown-haired woman in violet and gold.
Once Zane hears things quiet down in the kitchen and someone peek through the swinging doors he will move back towards them and quietly says, "Shh, lets be careful and quiet. I'm invisible at the moment."
A second later you hear, "Does anyone have a light source? I'd like to check for footprints and other marks to see which way people have come and gone here."
Perception check (assuming someone with a light comes into the room): 22 (survival would be 19 with the same d20 roll)
Tex says, “You think this was some sort of trap? This all seems so wrong, unnatural. Maybe best I check for any more magical surprises. I need ten minutes if we have that much, if not I could do it faster, like if you want to take full advantage of Zane’s spell.” He starts casting Detect Magic as a ritual, or, if the others think that we should hurry, with a normal slot.

Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
"Yea, a vampire would be bad news," fully agreed Lana with Rel and then nodded to Tex. "They either appeared the moment I touched the door or were roaming the next room. But judging by the alarm on the main entrance, I say they reacted to the door opening." She watched kobold walking around with magic detection for a few moments but then joined with the search of her own. Trying to be double careful this time.
Tracks on the floor - should there be any - she most likely missed (Survival 5) but Lana did her best to check both exits for potential traps. (Perception 17, and if Rel shares her Guidance, then an additional 3 (used "Favored Foe" to roll 1d4))
Walking into the next room, you can see that it is a dining room with a full table set. Everything about the place setting, the chairs, the carpet, tells you that the Briarwoods were indeed wealthy and wanted their dinner guests to know it. Hanging on the northern wall centered with the table is a very large portrait of the Briarwoods. A double door heading east lies ajar and a door to the south is closed. See post 706 for an image of the room and 687 for the portrait
Zane
Looking for any tracks, you do see some signs in the next room that there has been foot traffic on the carpeting though how recent you aren't sure. The heavier 'tracks' would lead to the eastern double door.
Tex
You do not see any auras of magic within 30 feet of you
Lana
You do not see any signs of traffic in or out, and upon looking for any sort of trap you can only see the cups that were placed in front of the door by Zane.
"Don't see any signs of traps,"shrugged Lana. "On either door. But with mages here, can not be absolutely sure. Keep your wits about you."She checked this up with Tex. "Anything magical around?"
Bellamy enters the dining room and wonders if these place settings are here, does that mean the Briarwoods are expecting guests soon. Bellamy then investigates the portrait to see if there is anything hidden on it or behind it.
Rel takes in the dark dining room and muses in a low voice:
"The Briarwoods seem as if they were rich, powerful and formidable. But here in this manor now... those life-sucking mists did not seem to work in an intelligent way or they would have both attacked in concert instead of letting us pick them off one by one. More likely they are closer to mindless entities, perhaps undead, that are wandering this house. We just have to stay on our toes. Good to know there is no magic here, Tex. Which way next?"
(Rel continues to bring up the rear, watching for anyone sneaking up behind them... still disguised as the brown-haired woman in violet and gold.)
Zane says to the others, "It seems like more movement towards the east doors. I think we should check out other parts first to make sure we're not going to get hit from behind."
Zane goes and looks through the eastern doors without actually stepping into the room.
Tex scans the entire dining room, especially the doors and beyond without opening them, for magic as he couldn't find anything in the kitchen. "There's really no magic in the kitchen," he states to the group. "Or it can't be detected. After the attack of the mists I was sure there would be something. I mean, just look at this painting. I feel like I'm watched!"Tex will keep the spell going for the full 10 minutes and he agrees with Zane, "I totally agree, we should check everything else before going the way we think they went." Then, he follows Zane, as good as possible as he can't see him, for a look for magic into the eastern room but at a safer distance, not directly next to the door.

Lana finally looked at the proverbial elephant in the room - the giant portrait of Briarwoods. "If they have guarding ghosts, why not watching paintings? Not that I like the idea." The tiefling shook her head and also moved to the eastern doors. "Well, if there is no magic on it nor any visible traps, let me try to get in."
She slipped into the cracked open door and stepped into the deepest shadow she could find holding her breath to look around relatively safely. (Stealth 24) (Perception 8 and probably ignore Guidance 3, Lana forgot to ask for it)
Something does seem off about the portrait, though you cannot quite seem to find what it is.
Tex
Moving into the dining room, you detect a small glow of magic behind the Briarwood portrait, you can tell it is of the evocation school
Zane and Lana
Peering into the eastern doorway, you can see to your direct left and right, two large armored statues as well as the same thing directly across the room with a door between. To the north is two spiral staircases leading up and to the south is a large door that looks to be the main entry to the manor. There is also a massive rug that covers most of the hardwood floors.
„You’re right, Bellamy,“ replies Tex. “There’s evocation magic behind that portrait, it could fire a fire bolt or who knows. It does look like a trap to me, I’m not sure if the fog came from here, or if it is something else. Be careful.” Tex investigates the portrait in depth, trying to figure out where exactly the source is, if behind or within the painting. He lifts the edge slightly to look behind, if possible, and attempts to figure out if he can disable a possible trap or, at least learn how to avoid triggering it.
(Investigation, advantage with Bellamy’s help: double natural 1…. 7 total)

((@cyreon I believe Rel also offered Guidance to anyone using a skill. So, there is that 1d4 too))
"The next room looks empty."Reported Lana not far from the entrance. "Do not see anything suspicious but do not like the statues there nor that carpet on the floor. Can you check them out for magic presence too?"
Despite her words, Lana carefully walked around the room listening and freezing in place any time she heard some suspicious sound. She walked around the carpet, trying her best to keep her distance from statues, with the goal to reach the next door and crack open them.
(Thx, I keep forgetting about that… if we factor that in, then the roll is 2 higher for a total of 9)

Zane replies to Lana (in the foyer?), "I can only detect magic based on experience, I don't have special means for it. But I do have experience, hold on."
He will carefully inspect the statues, given his background in art, and try to recall if he has seen (or heard of) similar things and if they're dangerous. History check: 13.
Putting your not so best efforts into investigating the portrait, you can't discern anything meaningful though when you try to move it to look behind, it does not budge. It seems to be secured quite tightly to the wall.
Lana
Working your way through the room, nothing seems to have happened as far as you can tell.
Zane
Even with your history in art, you do not recognize these statues. Your best guess would be they are decorative pieces.
