Working together Finley and Octavian fishes the gelatinous cube out of the well. The water soon flows up and over the lip of the well to spill into the pool.
Valrieth says, "Good job, guys!" She is happy that they were able to get the monster back up and out of the well, but it emerges faster than she was expecting for such a large blob. Before she can attack....
The cube goes first and surges towards Finley and use its action to engulf Finely once more
...the gelatinous cube emerges from the well and immediately rolls toward Finley. Val trusts that he'll get out of its way or at least that she won't harm him if she strikes the monster while he's inside it.
Clutching her star chart in her hand, Val sends a radiant bolt streaking across the pool. Still in her archer starry form, Val also attacks with a radiant arrow.
Movement: None. Remain on the platform at the northwest side of the pool. Action: Cast spell (LVL 1 slot) Guiding Bolt, 6, Damage: 12 radiant Bonus Action: Archer Starry Form (range: 60), 24, Damage: 6 radiant Free Action: Talking
Val's attack kills the gelatinous cube, but its shape stays solid as it dies with Finley still inside of it being slowing dissolved by powerful acid.
End of Combat.
(OOC: maybe Valrieth can adjust her movement from last round if she realized that she killed it.)
Valrieth is relieved when the creature finally shudders to a halt, but then she realizes with horror that Finley is still inside the cube! She starts running along the platform back to where Finley and Octavian are, shouting, "Octavian! Quickly! Can you get him out of there?"
Finley casts Absorb Elements again as he's pulled out, His helmet opens up to reveal red skin and he says, "Oh, aye.. Ah dunnae like that. Thank ye Octavian and of course ye fer killin' it Val."He tries to grin, but winces, "No needta burn yer hands on th' acid." He then sighs when he sees his destroyed rope, it was totally worth it though.

Valrieth reaches the stairs at the southeast side, leading down into the pool. She sits down, exhausted on the top step. "Great job, guys! That was...well...it's not what I expected. But at least we've unclogged the well and fixed Bavlorna's pool." She looks across the pool as it continues to fill up. She calls out to Vansel, wherever he's hiding: "Vansel, you can come out now! The fight is over!" Once he comes out of hiding, she tries to convince him to come out and dabble his hooves in the pool.
Val looks at Octavian's burned hands and feels her own head and shoulder, which are starting to sting again now that the panic of the fight has passed. Val's starry form finally fades, and she stops shedding light, which makes her look faded and tired. Val looks to FInley and asks, "What do we do next? I could try to heal everyone, but if I do, I won't have enough strength to cast any more spells until I get a good night's sleep." She squints, thinking. Between the grimy windows and the thick fog that surrounds Bavlorna's hut, Val has lost track of the time.
Val suggests uncertainly, "I guess we could tell Bavlorna that her pool is fixed and see whether she gives us Clapperclaw's head. If she upholds her end of the bargain, we could try to strike another bargain for Octavian's heart. But if her next task is anything like this, then I wouldn't want to attempt it until tomorrow, which probably means sleeping in her guest room tonight. We could just lock ourselves in, bar the door, and set a guard. I guess that's reasonably safe?"
"We could try ah bit o' ah rest down here, perhaps she won't come lookin' right away and we really gotta be careful about makin' too many deals around here, but ah'm willing to hear her out, doesn't mean we needta say yes to anything." Finley groans as he sits himself down, even if it's just for a brief moment.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Valrieth takes a deep breath and then assumes her Chalice starry form. She casts healing word on Finley, using the chalice form to heal herself. Then she tries to get comfortable in a position where she can keep an eye on the pool and the stairs while they rest and chat about what to do after they tell Bavlorna that they've fixed the pool.
(OOC: if the party can take a short rest now, I'd recommend that Octavian go ahead and use second wind before the start of the rest.)

"Thanks Val, ah'll be ready to head back up any moment, unless ye'd like a peek down there real quick." Finley glances towards where the creature came from. "Dunnae think there'll be much though."
"Thanks Val, ah'll be ready to head back up any moment, unless ye'd like a peek down there real quick." Finley glances towards where the creature came from. "Dunnae think there'll be much though."
Valrieth looks at the water thats now up to the level of the top of the well and shakes her head. "Well, I didn't see anything interesting down there--except for a giant acid-filled blob!", she says, pointing toward the gelatinous cube. "I suppose that the 'well' just leads down to the lake and somehow draws water up from there. Now that we've unblocked the well, we'd have to swim down 30 feet or more before we even got out of the main shaft. That seems too dangerous to me. We traded our potion of water breathing, and I haven't learned a spell that would help us survive underwater or mastered any forms, like a fish or crocodile, that would help me explore underwater. I wouldn't risk it unless we know of something that we really need to get down there."
Val looks back toward the spiral staircase upstairs and glances at the door to the room with the locked cupboard. She squints a little, thinking, and then says, "This whole realm is swampy and wet, but it looks like Bavlorna has not left this hut in a long time. We already found Clapperclaw's head, and I'm sure that we Octavian's heart is somewhere in this hut. Maybe in that locked cupboard here? Or in the room where we found Clapperclaw's head and the dead Lornling? Or possibly in one of the rooms we haven't searched upstairs? I don't think that Bavlorna would hide it at the bottom of the well."
Val stands up, ready to go talk to Bavlorna again. She says, "If Bavlorna gives us Clapperclaw's head, as agreed, then we already have our key to getting out of Hither. We'll just have to see what she's willing to trade for Octavian's heart, and then I can start thinking about what spells I'll prepare tomorrow to help accomplish that task."
Before they go back upstairs, Val asks Finley whether they should try to put some of the gelatinous cube into one or more of the glass bottles that they looted from the slanted tower. She says, "I don't know how long the acid will last or whether a scoop of its body could be useful in creating some sort of potion, but it might be worth collecting a 'sample' since we've already killed it and have the body here. I assume that the acid doesn't eat through glass?" If Finley thinks that it's a good idea, she'll help get the bottles out of the portable hole. They can use some of the implements from the taxidermy room, if needed, to cut or scoop some of the gelatinous cube and stuff it into the bottle.
"Hmm, aye so then let us figure out how ta get into the locked cupboard 'afore we head back to th' lady o' th' house then. We deserve at least a look-see at it fer almost dyin' down here." Finley says as he stands up as well. "Go ahead and take a sample o' it, carefully mind ye, worse come to worse we ken smash it over someone nasties head, aye?" He grins, "let's get to work so we ken see what else we gotta do to get his heart."
