when ilifir returns, he is a human child, and is struggling a bit more with his pack, and muttering. his clothes are now significantly too large, but its now clear why they had so many buckles in the first place. "alright, that should help" he says with deliberate nonchalance "everyone else ready?"

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

Valrieth blinks, taking in the "child" approaching them in Ilifir's sagging clothes. "Ilifir?", she asks, "Is that you?" She almost laughs at the sight but catches herself in case that would be rude. Once she realizes that it is indeed Ilifir, Val smiles. Since she's barely 3-feet tall, Val is always happy when she's not the only short member of a group. She enjoyed taking all of the children out of Loomlurch because some of them were actually shorter than her. Sometimes it's hard to feel like a hero when you're trapped in a crowd of belt buckles and backsides.
Val says that she doesn't often use Wild Shape herself, despite spending the whole morning in the form of a squirrel, but the druids of Faerun have long been masters of shapes and forms. She asks Ilifir a few careful questions to see whether he is willing to talk about this magic and learn whether it's more like a spell or some other ability like that of the druids.
(OOC: @weathervision - I think that we're ready to return to Downfall on Clapperclaw's balloon. Just doing some role playing while you're away.)
The party shoves off and the balloon takes flight. The less weight allows the balloon to travel ever speedier than before. The clouds darken and thunder peels through the sky. The balloon soars over the mountains that divide Hither from Thither.
In the distance towards the north, you see flying geese.
2 fly off from the rest of the geese and flies towards the balloon. As they get closer you see they magnitudes bigger than a normal goose found on the Sword Coast.
They are large in size and are coming straight for the balloon. You are not sure if they have malicious intent or are just curious.

They are 80 ft away what do you do?
Valrieth enjoys watching the birds flying up in the clouds with them, but when she sees the giant geese flying toward them, she looks to her companions and says, "Uh oh! I hope that they don't try to attack the balloon! Do you think that they're Fey geese?"
Val waves at the geese and tries to call out as loudly as she can in Sylvan (what she says in the spoiler):
"Hello, there! A good day for flying! I don't suppose that you could help direct us toward Downfall? In Hither?"
If they don't respond or seem to understand her, she says out loud, but clearly talking to herself, "Oh! Why didn't I ready my spell for speaking with wild animals today?"
Nature reveals that they are giant geese that are indeed fey creatures. They don't seem to understand Val's words and Val gets the sense these creatures are closer to animals then sentient beings.
The geese fly 30 ft closer to the balloon not slowing in the slightest.
Valrieth warns her friends off of attacking the geese because "I'm going to try to charm them so that they don't try to attack."
Val takes out her yew wand and incants a spell now that the geese are getting close.
Action: Cast a spell (level 2 slot) Animal Friendship. Val upcasts the spell with a level 2 slot so that she can target both of the giant geese who are approaching the balloon. The geese much make a DC 15 WIS saving throw or be charmed by Val. Free Action: Talking

"Wha' th' devils, where'd those geese come from?!" Finley yells out while manifesting a Fire Bolt for if one of the geese get within 15 feet of the Balloon in an aggressive manner. "We scarin' them or killin' them off, aye?"
Valrieth knows that geese are mostly herbivores, and she doesn't think that they'd eat people. Val suggests, "Just scaring them off. They can be fierce in defending their nests on the ground, but these ones might just be curious. Even so, if they give us a friendly 'honk' when they're too close, it could harm the us or the balloon." She worries that if they start a fight, the whole flock of geese might come to the defense of these two.
"Aoife," she asks, "can you talk to them? Ask them to keep their distance?"
Aoife raises her bow to attack the geese, but when Val asks about talking to them, she (somewhat reluctantly) lowers it.
She nods and waves her free hand, whispering a chirruping noise. (Cast Speak with animals)
She then calls out to the geese. “Don’t come any closer! You’ll harm our flying contraption! Go around or we’ll be forced to stop you, “ she adds, waving to the left hand side of the balloon, hoping the gesture will help take them off course. (Intimidation 17)
ilifir takes one step up into the air inside the balloons basket, holding onto the side with one hand, and two darts of stone form between his fingers again
"come on, stay away" he mutters, mostly to himself

Aoife takes the hunting trap up to the cave and leaves it there with the other stuff.
"All good," she states on her return to the balloon. She blinks at ilifir, then smiles and turns to climb onto the balloon.

Giant Goose 1 and 2 seem unaffected by Val's spell. Their intelligence is higher than 4 by a tiny bit.
