Bryn bods in response to Rylia's question. "No - we don't all have to place wages. And yeah - I used to work in a game room of sorts, where this kind of gambling was the main source of income." He lokks to see if she has any more questions, or wants him to keep explaining about gambling.
If Rylia looks like she wanted more information, Bryn continues. "Basically, you are betting a certain amount of coin that your choice 'wins.' All of the money bet for a match goes into a pile, or sometimes an actual pot. Everyone who guessed the winner correctly gets a portion of that total. If everybody bets on the same person and that person wins, then more people will share in the winnings and thus you get a smaller portion of the 'pot.' But if somebody unexpected wins, and only a few people bet on him or her, then they get a bigger prize. The house gets a cut regardless of who wins - that's how they make money. I'd have to see who else is fighting to make any sort of predictions on winners - but often these places keep track of wins and losses of repeat contenders and post their odds of winning. Arr and Paladin are unknown fighters, but they are warforged. They should have a good chance of competing well..."
Paladin, although typically willing to a good fight, decided to sit this one out. He looked at Arr with a friendly smile:
"Today, my friend, I'll let you shine in the ring. But know that I'll be cheering for you with all my heart. And of course I lend you my shield. It will be a pleasure "
He unstrapped the shield from his back and handed it to Arr with a generous gesture.
"Use it well and make us proud. I'm sure you'll be victorious!"
Arr breathe out heavily but accept Paladin's decision with a comradely smile. They take the shield and hold it reverently with two hands, "Thanks, Paladin, we will make good use of it."

The goblin expresses his disappointment when Paladin says that will participate in the fight.
While leads the group towards Shamukaar's dormitories, the goblin mentions that considering it's almost 6pm, foods can be provided to within a few minutes. He explains that the fighters will be introduced at 7pm. when betting opens and that betting is optional but encouraged. “On good betting days, Madame Petras will be able to distribute a portion among the fighters,”he states, but does not clarify how this distribution works.
As the goblin talks about Madame Petras, you notice that she is no longer in sight. The little figure informs you that the fights will start at 8pm. and that there will be three matches with brief breaks to clean the rings. During these breaks some volunteer clients usually give brief presentations to entertain the public.
He glances at Rylia's suitcase on her back, smiles and asks about the contents. “Is that a weapon or some kind of instrument?"
As you follow your diminutive host through a dark and winding corridor, the unusual and eerie atmosphere of the place seems to envelop you. The torchlight along the corridor casts distorted shadows on the stone walls.
The passage leads you to a weathered and blackened wooden door that creaks open. Inside the dormitory, you're greeted by a large space with rows of sturdy wooden bunk beds lining the walls.
"Here are our cozy dormitories. As mentioned, we have two dorms available, each with space for up to 10 people. However, I can arrange for all of you to stay here together."
//---DM please consider this update---// Sitting atop the leftmost top bunk, a Lycanthrope who seemed to be sharpening their claws with some kind of abrasive material is immediately scolded by the small goblin. "Don't do that! You know you can't do that here." The Lycanthrope waves a hand dismissively and lies down after ceasing what they were doing.
On the furthest right bunk at the back, a Tabaxi is entirely absorbed in cleaning their saxophone.
He then moves to show individual lockers in one corner of the dormitory. "And here, you can store your belongings, but remember, the responsibility for the security of your personal items is yours."
Despite their simplicity, the dormitories are functional and offer a reasonably decent place to rest. The bunk beds come with thick mattresses and surprisingly clean sheets, though they do show signs of use. The heat and stuffiness are mitigated by small pipes in the walls from which some fresh air flows.
Rylia had of course asked Bryn for more about gambling and listened attentively as he explained. "Sounds like a really good deal for the house."
When the goblin asks about the case she carries, Rylia smiles. "It's a viol. I love to play. Bryn and I have several pieces we do together."
When shown the rooms, she spends a few moments looking around at everything. "Seems like a good spot. We'll just settle in then be down for sonething to eat. Thank you."
She then starts to go around, pushing on the mattresses and looking at the top and bottom bunks. She considers each, and although they're likely nearly identical, age tries to pick one she thinks is the most comfortable. "An upper bunk for me I think. Wouldn't want anyone sleeping on top of me."
Brother Coltinar rubbing his hands together to show his slight interest in the coming events, "Ahhhh, such wonderment we've been a part of over the last few days. You can feel the excitement and anticipation of the place it seems. Good luck Arr you got this."
Brother Coltinar goes over and privately give the Warforge a pep talk, "You can do this my friend. You are strong, fast, intelligent, and in prime condition. Use your wits and be ruthless in tactics and alert for surprises as you always are. Draw your opponent into more favorable positions for you to take advantage of. Overwhelm your opponent at the right moment. We'll be rooting you on in the crowd so know your friends are behind you all the way."

As they enter the dorm, the rogue surveys the room and it's occupants. He'd learned not to underestimate another based on appearances alone. It was a tactic he often tried to employ himself...So he merely nodded in respect to both while Rylia checks the bunks for their suitability.
When she finds the most comfortable one, Bryn of course throws his gear on the bunk beneath hers. "No problem, Ryl. I don't mind if you're on top."It takes about 3 seconds before the young man realizes the double meaning to his statement - and for his face to flush bright red as he tries to look everywhere / anywhere else! He will busy himself with examining the individual lockers and determining if there is any way to lock them closed to keep inquisitive hands out of them...
Arr thanks Coltinar for his encouraging words and reinsures him that they will try to be careful and not run heedless into every fight.
When they enter the room, Arr turns to the goblin, "I was under the impression that for the higher price we will have one room for ourselves, not simply stay in one room together that is shared with others. If you have enough beds between both of your rooms, I would like to book one entire room exclusively for us." If necessary they offer two more gold pieces for 4 extra beds to the goblin (to make it a total of ten which is one room). Then, Arr take a good look at the lycanthrope. They note that he filed his claws, presumingly his natural weapons, could this be one of the pit fighters? How strong does he appear to be, or will he likely rely on dexterity?

Brother waits to hear what transpires regarding accommodations for the group with the Goblin.
Brother Coltinar checks out the two covertly as possible, trying to figure out what kind of creatures they are and their motives in the room.
Hearing Arr's comment, Rylia too turns to the goblin. "Yes, I do believe payment was made already for the full room." Having decided on a bunk in the middle near the back, she pulls herself up to the top bunk. Telepathically she relays to Bryn, 'Hmm, I'll have to remember that about you.'
Rylia now sits on the upper bunk, her legs hanging down and swinging back and forth. "Hello," she says brightly to the Tabaxi, looking down at what he's doing. "I presume you are a musician. Are you going to be playing here tonight? Someone said something about that, folks play between the fights?"
The goblin, wearing a slightly frustrated expression, responds to Arr and the group's request.
"No, no, no, no, no! I apologize if I not make myself clear! the other dormitory has only three vacancies left, and we're expecting more guests later today. Therefore, it's not possible to make the entire dormitory available only for you. I certainly would accept payment for the whole room if were possible, but unfortunately, it isn´t"
The lycanthrope, wearing an enigmatic smile, responds to Brother Coltinar. "Rest isn't something we have the luxury of enjoying here, Priest. Life in the Cogs is unforgiving, and battle is always just a step away." //--- DM @Coltinar see your private messages ---//
Coltinar notices some pamphlets on the lycanthrope's bed, all advertising fights at different locations and dates. It seems he's always ready to step into the ring.
At the same time, the Tabaxi on the bunk responds to Rylia's question. "Well, I don't know If I can be named a musician, but I like to play my sax and I enjoy doing that. My name is Nine Nipples, and I play the saxophone here in the Cogs whenever I get the chance. Sometimes they allow me to perform during the fights to entertain the crowd and I even get some coins. It's a pleasure to meet you. You folks don't seem to be from around here."
Brother Coltinar replies to the Lycan but looks at the Tabaxi occasionally too, "Seems we have a mutual acquaintance in Boho possibly. It does seem that life in the Cogs is a bit more challenging. You can call me Brother Coltinar in case I forget to tell you, my name. Who might you two be?"
He looks about at his companions and says with a smile, "I'm ok on the top bunk or the one below it." Choosing his words, a bit more carefully he hopes.
Brother Coltinar moves to claim a bunk and if a top one is available, he grabs that hoping that if the bunk below him is vacant they wouldn't bug him as much if someone comes in and climbs in on the bottom bunk versus climbing up to the one above.
Brother Coltinar continues, "So, is there anything going on in the cogs these days? What's the latest gossip, chatter that might be of interest?"
Brother Coltinar moves to within 20 ft of both and asks, "Do you mind if I link to your minds? Individually of course."
If so Brother Coltinar links to them and chats briefly.
