Bryn heaves a sigh of relief after Arr regains his bearings and appears to be recovering from his near-death experience. "We were really worried about you, buddy! It didn't look very good for you back on the air coach...and your sudden exclamations and noise just now made me think the worst had happened! But you seem to be doing ok - and even unlocked some of your core memories. Welcome back!!"
Arber carefully removes the sheet covering Arr and takes out the stones. Only now, more conscious, Arr notices that the two manticore spikes are still embedded in their chest, but there's no pain, and no more fluids are leaking out.
"Alright, I think we can remove these now. Your flow has been restored,"Arber says while removes the two spikes and placing them on a tray. Ada approaches Arber and says something in his ears, in a hushed tone. Arber nods in agreement, still focused on his work, and Ada takes the tray with the spikes.
Arr's chest now reveals the holes from where the spikes were pulled. Quickly, Arber pours a liquid from one of the vials onto the wounds, and they seal shut. Despite the quick movements, Coltinar and Bryn, who are closer to the scene, notice that from the open wounds emanated a radiant ruby-red light, almost blinding in its intensity. Coltinar, accustomed to being around Warforged, has seen many injuries but has never witnessed anything quite like this. Now the wounds are fully healed, as if they had never existed.
Arber says to Arr, "There you go, you can get up now. We can discuss your dreams later. For now, you can join your friends." "And talking about friends, I need to see the other and then we can go to fix your shoulder." He spoke going toward Paladin.
Ada exits the room, carrying the tray with the two manticore spikes, and hands them over to Braxiel.
Meanwhile, Arber approaches Paladin and practically shoves him onto another bed on the opposite side of the room. Paladin, taken aback, doesn't resist, and the scene is almost comical, with the small, elderly Arber pushing the massive Warforged onto the bed. Arber demonstrates remarkable skill and ease in dealing with Warforged.
"Let's see what we have here," Arber says as he dons a pair of large goggles and sits on a high, swiveling stool beside the bed. The goggles emit beams of light that scan Paladin's lying form. "Hmm... interesting... hmm-humm," he mumbles.
"This won't do,"Arber remarks, removing the goggles and making a hand gesture. A disc of arcane energy appears over Paladin, emitting several blue rays on his body. Immediately, a holographic image of Paladin materializes at the head of the bed.
Arber approaches the hologram and begins separating its parts as if disassembling the Warforged piece by piece. "Hmm... this shouldn't be here. And it must have been here for quite some time," he comments. He looks at Paladin. "Didn't you feel any discomfort in your side plates, son?"
Without waiting for an answer, he instructs Paladin to turn onto his side and with a laser-like pen, begins tracing one of the his side plates. Arber lifts it slightly and holds it up.
"Ada, please bring me the forceps," the master requests. Ada returns quickly with another black leather case containing a set of forceps. Arber selects a medium-sized, dark gray and slides it under the plate. Paladin feels a slight twinge as Arber pulls something out.
At the end of the forceps is a rusted piece of metal, maybe resembling the tip of a sword blade. Arber hands the forceps and the metal shard to Ada.
He places the metal plate back in position and seals the edges with the laser-like pen, effectively repairing the damage. "There, that should be an improvement," he says to Paladino, smiling. //--- DM Paladin now has Dexterity 10 ---//
Arber swivels on his stool and addresses the group, "Well, I think our friends are doing well now, so let's return to the point at which this visit should have started: Hello, I am Arber d'Cannith, Master Artificer of House Cannith. This is Ada, and you've already met Adam outside. They are my assistants. How can we assist you?"
Master Arber responds to Braxiel with a friendly expression.
"The warforged are truly remarkable creatures! The masterpiece of House Cannith and one of Eberron's greatest engineering achievements. They are beings crafted with an impressive fusion of stone, metal, sometimes wood, and a lot of magic. Originally designed to serve as soldiers during the War of the Last War, they have become much more than that. They are immune to some organic weaknesses, do not need to sleep, to eat or to drink, and are skilled in a variety of tasks."
He pauses, looks to Arr, and smiles before continuing. "But what truly makes Warforged remarkable is their ability to learn, grow, and evolve. They possess a unique wisdom and the capacity to adapt to the ever-changing environment. They are valuable creatures and an essential part of our society."
"Master Arber,"Bryn says. "We are on a quest to find a lost foundry deep within the Dorasharn Tower, and retrieve a relic for Lady Elaydren. Any assistance you can provide, either in equipment or weapons or information, would be greatly appreciated. Your healing work on our warforged friends would be enough...but we will gladly accept anything else!"
"I think something was said about upgrades for the warforged?" Rylia adds. "I'm a bit concerned because of with everything both Arr and Paladin have gone through, I'm not sure there truly ably to decide if they want these things done to them. I know both expressed some hesitance before."
Master Arber responds to Rylia's concerns with kindness. "There is no reason to be concerned, miss! The warforged have free will and nothing will be done to them without their consent." Arber also explains that the facilities responsible for warforged production have been deactivated since the end of the war. "It was a requirement in the treaty of Thronehold," he says. So major modifications are not possible, anyway. At most, small adjustments to individual components, cleanness, and replacement of some damaged plates could be made.
He turns his attention to Bryn and explains that his knowledge of the Dorasharn Ruins is not extensive. Most are common knowledge. The ruins are a mysterious and ancient place, known to contain artifacts and secrets from the past.
Arber then addresses the equipment issue. He mentions that Elaydren wishes this mission to remain secret, which means they cannot use weapons or equipment already registered in the inventory. "However, she knows that I have access to some items still unregistered..."
"I understand the importance of this mission,"Arber says, "and I am willing to help in any way I can. If you can tell me which items or additional information you need for your quest in the Dorasharn Ruins, I will do my best to obtain them." He looks at each of you, awaiting your requests.
As you think, he Arber looks to Arr with a smile "Do you want to fix this shoulder, Sir Arr Rage?"
Rylia glances over to the others before addressing Arber. "I'm not really sure what we'll find, so I can hardly imagine what items we might need. And I've no idea what you could even offer. All I can think of is that anything that might protect me more would be nice. Because we keep seeming to get attacked!"
Bryn adds his thoughts after Rylia. "Since we'll be far below the surface, we'll need a light source or two. If you have something that will light our way without using arcane power and leave our hands free for working, that would be wonderful. Of course, anything to help protect us or strike down any threats we find are good. I don't suppose you have any Bags of Holding we could borrow?"
He grins sheepishly - Bryn wasn't used to people helping him - other than Ryl, of course. But they had worked together for a few years. These people didn't even know him! He guesses this is what it is like to be needed and your skills valued...
Arr flexes his shoulder, “Depends what you can do for it. It’s still not fully healed but I think it will do after some short rest. You can do it faster?”
Brother Coltinar smiles as the master works on his friends that his witnesses.
"Glad to see you two getting some help, Paladin and Arr." He talks to Master Arber, "The temple has tasked me with assisting the warforge to integrate into the society where I can. If you can teach me anything to help in that regard or otherwise, it would be helpful in my task. We have also noticed some of the warforge are rebelling against the city. We had an encounter with an assassin warforge a couple days ago. Is there a better way to defend against a warforge that is trying to hurt us? A way to put them at ease or befriend them? We do not wish to harm them but we must defend ourselves too."
Brother Coltinar looks around and listens intently to any advice.
Arber looks to Arr´s shoulder. "I´m afraid that rest alone won't fix the issue once the plate isn´t properly fixed and might present some malfunction with your shoulder"
Turning to Coltinar, Arber elaborates on the matter of the Warforged rebels. "Indeed, some Warforged have rebelled after the end of the war. There are rumors of a figure known as the 'Lord of Blades,' though I can't confirm if such an individual truly exists. However, there are certainly followers who espouse his ideals, and their numbers seem to be growing. They are a concerning faction. Warforged were created for battle, and if turned to malevolent purposes, they can be formidable weapons. It's a situation that requires caution. We know that some worforged who were among our best officers in battle, now claim to be followers of this figure. I don´t know if a talk will solve, but you certainly can try."
Arber's expression grows somber as he continues, "There have been whispers that the Lord of Blades might even be manufacturing Warforged. Frankly, I find that hard to believe. It would be a complex endeavor. But rumors persist, and we should remain vigilant."
Turning to Bryn, he replies, "I'm afraid we don't have a Bag of Holding available. However, I can provide Paladin with a camouflage compartment if you'd like. It should serve a similar purpose."
"But, let me see what else I have that might help in your journey."
Arber rises from his seat and proceeds to the shelves at the back of the room. He opens a cabinet with two high doors. A bright light comes from inside it. All of you are close enough to perceive that its shelves are floating in a slow revolving movement, showing an array of jars and vials in various colors, shapes, and sizes. As he sifts through the collection, he mutters to himself, "Let's see what we have here..."
Rylia and Coltinar feel a powerful arcane energy coming from this cabinet. Carefully selecting several containers, he places them on a nearby table, closer to you. In the table you wilL find:
Braxiel will speak up with the new information, “Thank you for your insights but being such a powerful being with much pull in the city, what do have to gain, for helping us oppose The lord of blades. Does their teachings not appeal to one who cares so deeply for the warforged and their treatment in this city?”
"Thank you master Arber. These potions will go a long way. May I link with your mind? It could be beneficial to contact you as my skill grows. I understand if you prefer not to."
Brother Coltinar realizes that such a seasoned artificer may be able to block any contact with their mind and may also have wards to harm anyone who tries too possibly. He chides himself for not linking to the one that got them here. He links to Arber if allowed.
