Clearly relieved after Elsara’s news about Gendan Val focuses on the next move, seeing that his main concern is being addressed.
“ Ihave the same feeling that they are always one step ahead of us. So far it seems that their only goal was just to spread the plague that this magic is and create havoc but I fear that thesis a more elaborated plan to their actions. It is like they are using this events as a test to something bigger. That Mío Misaki lead seems to be the most solid one, perhaps we should look that one. when you say opening a second branch so you mean that we will act as proxy’s of yourselves there? Instead of being field agents? “
"Yes... but not exactly." Catherine states, "We do not currently meet the qualifications set by the council to actually open a second branch. I had to do... let's say a lot of logistical handwaving and embellishing to get the permission for a second branch. We currently do not have enough members to run two branches simultaneously. In the second branch, you will be acting as our proxies but will also be taking on quests as per usual since we don't currently have anyone else to do it."
"So... we're promoted?" Elsara asks, wondering how this works inside of a work ethics side of things. She thinks back about how her father put it when she was an even younger elf, wondering if she'll be able to make it as successful as her mother. "Well I mean, I'm happy to help out however I can! I'm sure we all are, right?" She looks eagerly to the others. "Is this something we're going to go do tomorrow, or is it something for in a few days' time?"
Devarus finally stops staring flabbergasted after Elsara's initial question, and looks at Cathrine intently for confirmation. Whatever comes of it still leaves him staring up at the ceiling, arms crossed, and by all appearance in deep thought for a good minute or so. "With membership being what it is, are we to assume we aughta keep look out for talented individuals as well? If not to fill the same roles as ourselves, then at least 'help' in the lower administrative duties in the second branch? Also, though it is a second fiddle sort of business, we do still have to return a certain ring as per our, uh... 'the' other job."

Catherine mentions, "For recruitment, you will be given funds to recruit people necessary to run the second branch as smoothly, or at least as smooth as you can given the current circumstances. At the same time, we should not recruit too many people to that branch, especially field agents, since we can't risk anyone tattling to The Council that the true nature of the second branch is to pursue the practitioners of this magic and that we do not actually meet the requirements needed to open a second branch. Let me handle field agent recruitment over here. On the mainland, you will be recruiting one receptionist to handle the quests that will come in, one chef to manage food and one handy man to clean the place, maintain gardens and the stables. About the ring you can deliver it tomorrow morning and hand me a mission report." Horace says, "Speaking of handing things in, do you still have the Affectus Uti spell scroll that you found in the farm? Please hand it over so we may destroy it." (DM: Assuming you guys told him that you did in fact find a scroll with a 10th level Affectus Uti spell)
(Elsara was going to go over it in the morning report, but now's as good a time.)
"Yeah, I've kept hold of it." Elsara reaches to her hip. Above the metallic tome is a rounded tube, sized for securing scrolls. She pops it open and slides out the scroll. "I was wondering if it would be useful for discerning more about the magic school, but I guess if we destroy it then there's no risk of it going off and causing bad stuff."
The orange tabaxi takes the scroll in his hand and says, "Of course it would have been useful in discerning more about the magic school. But you have to understand that Catherine and I lack the magical expertise and resources to do so. To discern something from a magic scroll like this would take an expert and what you have here is a former Barbarian and a former Rogue. Of course I could send it to Maldor but then... given the current tensions between Rurik and the neighboring kingdoms, it is guaranteed that the Council will jump at the chance to use such a potent school of magic to tip the scales." He pulls on the scroll, tearing it in half before adding, "Frankly, I don't think I'm comfortable with such destructive magic being used by anyone's hands. Especially not the generals of this country." He continues tearing the scroll to pieces before handing of the remains to Catherine to chuck into the fireplace.
Elsara casts Detect Magic to check that when the scroll is being torn up no bad juju escapes into the nearby area. Last thing the group needs is their old home being infected by affectus uti when they're off to another island for the short to medium term.
Elsara looks relieved that nothing bad comes from the scroll's destruction, at least for the moment. "Well if that's everything, I think everyone's looking a little tired." Elsara tells the group. "Shall we pick things up in the morning? I'll start writing my report as soon as I'm done trancing."
Catherine states, "That would be for the best. Though I suggest you decide on which thread we should follow in trying to find out more about our enemies. You seem a bit split on that matter." "Also..." Horace says before taking out a strange looking great axe and handing it to Runt, "The blacksmith returned the weapon Runt commissioned." The axe consists of a silver plated adamantine shaft that holds a black trapezoidal blade to act as an axe head. The blade is shaped very much like a guillotine blade. The blade also feels strange to the touch. Elsara can see with her detect magic that the weapon is giving off an aura of Faerz magic. The magic is especially strong in the black blade.
"That's a rather spiffy looking bit of equipment. Heh." Devarus smiles before looking to Cathrine. "After giving it a bit of thought, looking into Mio would be my vote as well. Perhaps in a strange twist of fate..." He trails off for a second, then shakes his head while waving his hand. "Nevermind. Still, Mio would be the route I'd suggest. Oh, and if you happen to have in family out that way we could perhaps consider for said recruitment, all the better. Otherwise, we'll figure something out and get the details on the location from you on the morrow."
Once the group is dismissed, Elsara will return to her room. She'll check her spots where she put her excess items, ensuring they are not disturbed, before beginning to place them into her backpack. She takes to the bed and sits upon it, meditating over all that has happened, trancing as she works to centre herself for what is to come ahead. A new adventure, out towards the mainland. Sydil had been her home only for a short while, and before that she had been somewhat of a recluse; this would let her expand her horizons again, hoping to make a good influence where she goes. With her sending stone in Katherine's care, they will still be able to keep in contact with the main guildhall whilst they setup. She contemplates seeing if there is chance to meet with Mr. Evans and his goblin friends before leaving, as she might not be back for some time.
After feeling refreshed, Elsara heads to the common room, bringing parchment, ink, and quill with her. She dips the quill into the inkwell, pausing before beginning to write her report. She thinks about the style and format it should follow, perhaps similar to the ones her mother had to scribe at the end of a battle. No, that was too military. She begins with a small paragraph recapping the initial thoughts of Affectus Uti and that they have encountered it several times on their travel, before beginning the true report, speaking of their mission off of the shoreline, their trials with a mutinous first mate, all the way to returning to a pair of brothers and their corrupted form from the Affectus Uti. She makes particular notes on the changes and the magical traits present within the creature's lair. Once she is finished, she adds her personal thoughts on the matter, how Affectus Uti isn't inherently bad, but the practisers and usage they have seen so far have given that particular outlook on this school of magic could have a major impact to how future scholars and adventurers may view it; not uncommon to necromancy, where many despise it for its ability to create undead, but forget it is also the ability to restore one to life.
Valwaryn nods to Catherine explanations about this second branch and says "I understand, we will do our best of course."
When the scroll is destroyed he audibliy sighs. "That's a relief. The less of that fould magic the better. He was happy with that decision.
"I am really tired yes... thank you for all Catherine, as usual. " he also nods to the Horace "And to you... Alpha" he says to the leader of the Guild.
He, for once, spent the night on his room, but just before sunrise he goes to the river nearby the city and cleanses his gear on its running, clear waters before returning to the Headquarters to rejoin the others.
With the group's dismissal, Devarus is not want to linger for long on goodbyes. True to his words, there was yet other business for him to attend to that night. Yet paranoia, if nothing else, had him look to Runt in noticing her quiet demeanor. Even if the business they just concluded were a bit outside her realm of expertise, hearing not a word in hindsight left him wandering if the news of Gendan's predicament affected her far deeply than the rest. So it was he gave her a questioning look, and if assured or brush off, would either way find his way to his mother's home that evening.
Albeit, apart from checking in and updating her on the recent troubles, Devarus really had no other plans for the side trip. No plans except to ensure that any visiting hooligans from out of town met him first before his mother, least they truly be in a world of hurt. But if ultimately all is well the man eventually returns home to retire for the evening at last. The next morning he was gonna be late to rise. But after everthing that has been going on, he hoped the others might forgive him.

Selene listens to Deva. She asks again if Deva is absolutely sure if he wants to continue this dangerous line of work. However, Deva isn't one to back off now so she gives him a magic pendant for protection.
((OOC: I haven't actually made the magic item in question yet. I will add it to Deva's sheet when I do that.))
When Elsara has finished her report, she will take it up to Horace's room, leaving it for the tabaxi to inspect when it is convenient. She'll make her way back down to the common room again to wait for the others to arrive so they can plan their next move. "When are people wanting to make for the mainland?" She asks the others (when they turn up). "I know there's a lot going on, but I think there's a few local things I'd like to get finished off before leaving. Who knows when we'll be back in Sydil. Oh, and we have that ring to pass back, and to see what Mr. Sweetcane makes of the mission report."
Devarus answer is much the same as before, if albeit with the addition of being unable to just ignore a growing threat. The guard was a cozy job. An honorable job. And if he yet saw the major threat through to its conclusion at least, maybe he would rejoin it someday, he admits. He almost again speaks of his other hope that had came with seeking out his current vocation in the first place, but again held his tongue on that in favor of trying to enjoy the remaining time he had with his mother.
The gift had been an unexpected one, but he more than happily accepted it. Although not without joking of having not returned home with the same. Perhaps next time...
Come the next sleepy-eyed Devarus takes half a minute to even appear to register Elsara's words. ".... What?" Oh, uh.... yes. The ring. We most definitely need to return it. And, admittedly, they... or maybe that party was dreamt. But, tying up those other loose end jobs might be good. Who knows. It could be we find one of our "employees" in the process, if not more unexpected tie-ins while our other contacts sort out the Misaki case. And could be they find something before we even leave." He said. "I'll go check the board and confirm things still are what they are. One moment." Devarus would step up and head to whatever amounted to a job board to review both it, and remind himself where they needed to go for the ring drop off next.
