Using his Telekinetic Shove as a bonus action to help with the blocks as he can, Crannoc calls on Silvanus'Guidance to bolster his friends' efforts as he has all along, starting with Gawain as the paladin struggles to keep the door shut. (Add 1d4 to Athletics)
Hildris able to find a few handaxes around the room, shoving them in the bottom of the door to help stop it. As the rest of you pile on blocks, you hear the undead screaming for your heads even through the solid stone door. Just as Gawainand Hildrmove to keep the door closed with their own strength, they feel a massive force slam against it.
The door shakes as she tries to force her way through, but the paladin and barbarian together are able to hold the door closed until enough weight is piled up. Your new foe does not give up however. You hear her nails scraping against the stone door, interspersed with her pushing against it to try and shove it open.
"I. Will. Peel. Your. Flesh. From. Your. BONES!" She screams through the door as she continues to slam against it.
For now though...You appear to be safe from her wrath.
Calavaz is slumped in a corner of the room, sweating from the exertion of helping move all of those blocks. "Still here." He calls out meekly, clutching at the amulet around his neck. "What was that monstrosity?"
Gawain steps away from the door, shaking slightly as his muscles ache from holding it closed against that creature. "Vampire?"He puts into the air. Monster cataloging was not his specialty, he saw the remains of the coffin the same as the others.
"I think we stay here for the night."He says, though he winces as the woman's screamed threats continue to carry through the door. "It might be uncomfortable. But being out in the open at night sounds like a real horror."
"That," Hildr quips at Calavaz, "was your brother's bride. Were you not invited to the nuptials?"
She nods in agreement with Gawain. "We should seal the door to the cellar as well. There was a tunnel in the pit. Galdren's wife might have another way of getting outdoors—and getting at us."
With that, the humbled shieldmaiden—Hildr hates being called a "maiden"—proceeds to seal the door at the foot of the stairs and stack the remaining blocks against it.
Listening to the relentless racket of the vampire, Hildr whines, "How are we going to get any sleep?" She adds, "I'll take first watch."
“I think we should do a quick scouting trip to make sure nothing else will say boo in the night. I can move pretty quickly and hide alright does anyone want to join me?”
Hildr looks exasperated. Pointing at the pile of heavy stone blocks she has erected to prevent access from above, she asks, "You want me to remove all this, really? I think it is high time we gave it a rest."
Irisfinds an empty wall and leans against it, sliding down to a sitting position. Things had taken an unexpected turn today...She was exhausted for it. "Let's not try and anger anything else tonight Gallant. Besides, the tower is already surrounded by that thorny weed. I don't think you'd find much out there anyway."
Gawainlooks towards the sealed door, wincing again as the vampire continues to call for their death. "It'll fade into the background eventually. Hopefully. Honestly it's kind of reassuring to know she's there and not finding another way out."
"I'll go afterGawain." Irisoffers up. She casts an apologetic glance at Hildr, sympathizing strongly with the desire for peaceful sleep. "It might be less noticeable if we move into the area where they were keeping Calavaz. The person keeping watch can stay in here."
Crannoc considers Calavaz's question and Gawain's response as to what the abomination is.
"I know little of such powerful undead, but I think if it were truly a vampire, we would all be dead or worse. A deep hole or a few stone blocks would not hold a vampire at bay. I have heard tales that they can transform into flying beasts or even mist to flow through the smallest crack."
He shakes his head violently, like a dog who has bitten into something unpleasant and wishes to rid his mouth of the taste. "Yet, it may have been similar to a vampire. Perhaps something lesser, yet still horrific and deadly to us. Calavaz, as Hildr suggested, I think you know now why your brother would not listen to your pleas. Something else held him in thrall. I only wish we had recovered his mask to understand its magic."
Nodding at Iris' suggestion, he moves to where the others plan to rest. "Wake me for the fourth watch, then. May Silvanus' watchful eyes aid our vigil."
The man's face turns even paler as the two of you discuss the woman's nature. "Something like a vampire...?" There is a long sigh, and his eyes close, murmuring a short prayer. "I should have been here for him." He says sullenly, eyes turning to the blocked door. After a moment of silence, he lifts himself up to follow into the other room. "If you need more to stay awake as well, I can. It's the last I can do for the good you tried to do here."
You take your watches in turn, swapping rooms throughout the night to give the sleepers reprieve from the undead woman's cries. She continues for the whole night. Sometimes her cries are pure rage, promising retribution. Mostly it turns into wails, lamenting the death of Galdren. It isn't until morning when the last shift is almost over that she stops trying to get through the door, and the chamber filled with blissful silence at last. Across all of your watches, nothing ever tried to get in through the door leading to the tower.
Calavaz is the last of you to wake, eyes still reddened. As you all prepare to head out, he shifts uncomfortably. "You were here on behalf of the people of Greenest, yes?"
As Gawain starts removing obstacles from their way out (leaving the stone blocks against the door to the throne room), he turns to look at Calavaz. "We were. What do you plan on doing now?"
Calavaz closes his eyes for a moment, steeling himself. "Well...I was hoping to return to Greenest. I have some apologies to make and...justice to face for what has become of my brother."
Gallant looks at the poor sap, then at the others, and then back at him, “That is very noble of you, we would gladly take you to the town and even help try to clear this up.”
looking at the party, “what should we do with the folks tied up? They are going to be a pain in our sides and potentially reek havoc on the town when we leave.”
"I can't say it'll be a warm welcome for you, but we certainly won't stand in your way."
Gawainhad nearly forgotten about the prisoners they left tied up outside, hopefully nothing had snagged them overnight. "We take them with us. I'm sure Greenest has some open cells for them. Nighthill can deal with them as he sees fit."
