Magic, steel, and nature cut through two of the cloaked looters, bringing them down before they even had a chance to react. Gawaincrosses the room, landing a nasty blow with the end of his polearm on the remaining one. There's a loud crack as the weapon's blunt end connects with his skull. As blood pours down the side of his face, you seem him begin to wobble - just barely still standing.
Arm shaking his lifts a scimitar from his hip, swinging widely at the paladin.
Still wobbling, the bandit steps aside as the bolt flies by. As he stumbles towards Hildr, the barbarian strides forward with purpose, slamming the flat of her sword against the side of his head. He crumbles to the stone floor, unconscious.
After she moves closer towards the pit, stepping over the rope net. You can see that it falls over to the bottom of the pit, its thick rungs making a climb up or down almost trivial. Torches have been lit at the bottom of the pit, and in the center you can see something that gives you pause.
You see the same vampiric monstrosity that sent you fleeing from the tower just days, her once pale skin charred black. There is a look mixed of horror and anguish on her dead face, and a wooden stake driven through her chest.
Crannoc's eyes widen as he too looks down the pit and sees Galdren's stake-impaled vampiric consort sprawled below. Murmuring for Silvanus'guidance as he releases concentration on his Blessing, he peers carefully down the hole for a long moment with his darkvision to scan for signs of movement or moving torchlight or shadows. Anything to indicate that other looters (or any other creatures) are still down there.
"It is difficult for me to believe that these men we just slew could have hunted that abomination on their own. Either their numbers are far greater or they have far more formidable combatants among their ranks. Or perhaps they caught her unaware in her coffin?"
"Her coffin had been obliterated by her lover's fall, so they must have faced her on her feet. Our new enemy must be powerful indeed." Hildr asks the others whether she has time to descend the rope net into the pit or they would prefer to continue their pursuit of the raiders.
Her rage fruitlessly extinguished, Hildr sheathes her sword, doffs her shield, and climbs down the rope net into the pit. Wisdom Perception check, lest some hostile creature surprise her from below: 14.
Having reached the bottom of the pit, Hildr dons her shield, unsheathes her sword, and prods the vampire bride's corpse. Does it finally rest?
If the creature doesn't awaken, she crouches down and examines both corpses, as well as the rest of the bottom of pit, shifting through the splintered wood in search of Galdren's mask and anything else of interest or value.

Scimitar Attack - Gawain

Attack Roll: 8
Damage: 2
Initiative Order -> Gallant -> Hildr
Gallant rolled 10 ft forward and shot his crossbow at the remaining bandit. He aims to only injure him so we can ask him questions.
Crossbow attack: 8
Damage: 5
Assuming Gallant's ranged attack hasn't killed the remaining bandit, Hildr approaches and uses the flat edge of her sword to attempt a knockout: 10 + 2 to hit = 12, 5 slashing damage (https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/phb/combat#KnockingaCreatureOut).
If the bandit falls, Hildr moves to the edge of the pit and peers down (probably into blackness, but who knows?).

Gallant seeing hildr peering into the monstrous pit, “Is she still there?”

Gallant will walk up to the whole with his crossbow drawn, just in case.
Wisdom Perception check: 21
And, if Hildr finds something interesting but not immediately identifiable or understandable, Intelligence Investigation check: 18
