Assuming that 17 is an insight check: Rindelk reads Glasstaff and gets the impression Glasstaff is telling the truth, but using technicalities. (did that make sense to all of you?)
" let's not confuse civil actions and charismatic words, if you draw a weapon, we will respond in kind as we have with these. You claim they are not yours, do you claim the same for the dozen cloaked brigands that have met the same end by choosing to be uncivil by actions of kidnap, **** & murder." "
You can't force surprise, unless someone is not even aware you're there. Even then, it's up to the initiative dice, although the surprised opponent misses a turn if it goes first. But if you want to attack, roll initiative and the dice decides who goes first.

Glasstaff responds to Kitryn again, "Lets not mince words. The redcloak humans in this compound took their orders through me, but I am not the top of the chain of command. The unpleasant little business they were in is their business. I have mine own. Speaking of my chain of command, you had best leave town. All you've done is hit the wasps nest with a puny little stick."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
'wasps are dangerous in number indeed, but your particular nest is empty and laid before you, do you actually believe you will walk out of this without our consent. hands in shackles or head in a bag? choose."

Exasperated, Glasstaff looks around at the other various party members; Leek the dire wolf, Katerielle, Elila and finally to Rindelk, "You are a fellow wizard, are you not? Maybe you can understand the metaphor better than this mostly orc friend of yours. I am not the queen in this small part of the whole wasp's nest. I am just another worker wasp. And this worker wasp is telling you, all you've done, including what you intend to do with me, is hit the nest with a puny little stick. My advice is to run, and keep running until the wasps can't find you anymore."
I get the turn.. I'm asking about physical space in context of the room. There is no space for me to move to unless I vault on to the desk or squeeze between Elila and Leek?
As Kitryn leaps to attack, Glasstaff raises his staff just a little bit too late to avoid the first blow (for 11 dmg), but a shimmering field around him repulses her second blow.
Elila, followed by Kat and Rin enter the room.
Rindelk looks intently around the room then settles his gaze on Glasstaff.

OOC: I want to surprise attack with Elila. How do I do that?

Oops... another detail for Rindelk: This guy is glowing with Abjuration magic. And the staff is glowing as well.

looks like i'm up first. whats my movement option here? do i have one?
On your turn you have a move, action, bonus action and a reaction for after you turn.
I get the turn.. I'm asking about physical space in context of the room. There is no space for me to move to unless I vault on to the desk or squeeze between Elila and Leek?
Moving through an ally's square costs double movement and you must finish in an empty square. You can also vault onto the desk.
alright, can i pick up the chair and break it on the him WWE style?! JK, swords from the desk it is.
"sigh, well, i've had enough of this 'banter'."
Attack: 11 Damage: 8
