Mae looks at Mellori and the muffin and gets a bit of a blushing smile, taking the proffered treat politely and putting it in her bag. "Thank you Mellori, that's very sweet of you too." She looked at her and Chara and gave them both a quick hug and then turned to the others. "Right. Plants you said? The garden. That was over there, yes?" She points off in the vaguely correct direction, but waiting for someone else to lead the way this time.
Following Knap, the group heads back into the Biblioplex. Heading to the west where Henry was noticed before, everyone passes the study area with long wooden tables with many chairs. At the moment, a group of students is pulling costumes and props from a half dozen old trunks.
The group quickly passes by as a female Gnome seems to be directing an Elf, noticeably dressed all in green, and a couple others in assembling costumes and props. The setting seems oddly familiar to Mei, but she doesn't really have time to stop and think about it unless she wants the rest of her floormates to move on without her.
Coming to the area you were seeking, you see this is one of two Book Gardens, the other being further back from the front of the Biblioplex than this one. There's also another room you've not seen previously in the northwest corner of the building.
The Book Garden is a lush arboretum. It is heavily covered with plant life, but still has paths to walk and open spaces to settle in to relax or enjoy a book.
The purple-skinned tiefling can't help but chuckle slightly as his roomie mentions his grandmother's best friend, it felt strangely relieving with the satyr, he didn't seem to care too much if anyone would think of him as...peculiar, and that certainly made Malvyn feel less peculiar himself with his fairly particular interests and habits. They were quite different he felt, but in a good way and he felt convinced that they would get along in their shared room.
As Knap moves on in what the tiefling assumes is satyr fashion, Malvyn follows with the others, taking note of things as the passes them. As the floories arrive at the Book Garden he steps inside to look around for any obvious greenery to pat, but he somewhat expects others to be better at determining how they should solve the Book Garden task.
"Oh! And for going above and beyond in your aid, I have something extra for two of you. Ah, just a moment." The gnome hurries back, somehow climbs up to the top of one of the back shelves and returns with two small objects. Coming back over to Mei and Chara, she hands each a small box. "An extra award for your exceptional help."
The rectangular box is intricately carved, with inlaid pieces of amber. They are clearly a puzzle box, with no obvious way of opening.
"Oh! That's not--you don't have to--it was really my pleasu--" Mei stops and starts before finally settling on a sheepish, "Thank you, Ms. Fitzbottom," as she receives the puzzle box with a small bow. She rotates the curious contraption in hand. Having difficulty accepting something with nothing to truly give in return, she offers, "If you'd like, my Helper will be around for quite a while still. I could have them stay and help you?" When Mei looks around to her companions, there's a sharp intake of breath to realize she and Guardok are the only ones left in the cafe.
In a bit of a rush, she doesn't wait for Ms. Fitzbottom's answer. "Helper, you stay--" she glances about though, of course, the servant is unseen, "oh, where are you?" An empty mug on the counter scoots a few inches to the left. "Ah, good! Um, alright, you stay here and do whatever task Ms. Fitzbottom gives you, okay? Please?" With that she bows again, blushing as her stomach growls and reminds her of the food they've been offered. She tucks a grilled halloumi sandwich in her bag, wishing they could stay for the drink too and, after Guardok has made his selection, takes his hand. "We gotta go, Small Tree Number 2!" she laughs, tugging him gently along to chase after the others.
At the Book Garden, Mei is wholly distracted from the task at hand, focus intent on the group they passed with the costumes and props. She tugs anxiously at the hem of her uniform and rises to her tiptoes for a--slightly--better view of the group again. The cards are restless in their holster, thrumming with energy against her hip.
((Can Mei attempt to spot any costumes or props with teeth? Perception: 16))
If he wore shoes he would take them off. But Knap doesn’t wear shoes nor does he care if others do. He takes a step onto the grassy edge of the Book Garden as if it were cool water. Hoove-tip first. the grass ripples to the touch.
“Ooo, I swear that wasn’t me. Sometimes the magic is hmmmmm… co-created. If that makes sense?” Says Knap halfway between the threshold. “It’s not a command or manipulation but an agreement.” The grass ceases its rippling and Knap leaps, bellyflops into the Bookgarden. He forgets why he and everyone else is there.
“I recommend taking your shoes off to really feel the magic though.”
The purple-skinned tiefling's fiery red eyes goes wide, first with suprise and then with reluctant disappointment as his roomie bellflops into the Book Garden. It didn't seem like the satyr had the intention of doing any patting, or anything else productive for that matter. Malvyn however lets out a small sigh and starts taking off his boots as instructed, soon finding himself with his purple feet with their black, almost claw-like nails against the grass. He doubted it was magic strictly speaking, but he had to admit it had a somewhat calming effect on him, helping him decide they were in no hurry with the scavenger hunt. "So what school of magic would we be talking about here?"He says to Knap with a slight smirk, standing with his feet in the grass, making fists with his toes.

"Topiary," Mellori blurted as she reached the gardens. She was not about to remove her shoes and remained on the path next to the grass. "I was thinking, if there is a plant sculpture of an animal, maybe we're supposed to pat that?"
And with that, she started to scan the horizon for anything that resembled an animal.
Guardok is dragged along from the coffee shop by Mei, allowing her to lead him after the others, picking at the many pastry crumbs he had dropped down his front as he ate his reward. He chuckles at her naming him Small Tree Number 2.
When they reach the Book Garden, he quickly follows Knap's example and takes his shoes off and steps lush environment. He is fascinated by the effects of Knap stepping in, "You certainly have a way with Flora", he says complimenting the Satyr. He digs his toes in amongst the soil, feeling perfectly at home in such close contact with the earth.
He starts walking through the Book Garden, the plants seemingly parting for his travel, "I have heard the term flower bed", he says as he searches for flowers.
Mae followed the group back across the building to the arboretum, letting the fresh scent of green growing things wash over her and seep into her bones. There was something tranquil about the place, even as her floormates began to take their shoes off and walk on the grass nearby. She didn't feel comfortable doing so, but she made a note to herself to perhaps try it another time when they weren't preoccupied with doing a scavenger hunt. So she wandered off just a very short ways, looking at the different plants and trying to decide if they meant to touch one literally or not.
Mei tries to quickly scan the costumes and props. It does seem that both behir costumes and beholder costumes have teeth. They dint seem familiar though.
Knap and Malvyn walk barefoot through the garden, either not caring about or just not noticing anything to further their quest here.
Mellori looks, but did not find any topiary in the Book Garden. And while Guardok does find flowers, none Haugen to strike him as meeting the requirements of the clue.
Wandering the paths of the garden a bit, Mae eventually notes what seems to be movement within some of the foliage. Nothing obvious is over there, but perhaps a closer look would help. (Mae can make an Investigation Check to see. Or others may if Mae points out she saw something.)
Mae stopped, seeing something amiss in the greenery and looked back to call her floormates over, but just stared at them all for a long moment, wondering if she was the only one actually trying to solve the clue. But she called out anyway after a long moment, "I think there is something over here! If..you're done..there..." She then looks back at the leaves and such to try and get a better look.

Mellori is beginning to wonder if her inspired guess is not more than that - but before she can give it more thought, she hears Mae call them over.
Unsure entirely what the 'over here' refers to, or what precisely she should be looking for, she simply scans the area where Mae is. "I'll give you a hand,"she says as she peers around.
When Mae calls out, Guardok starts to make his way over to her, his path one again clearing in front of him allowing him easy passage across the foliage.
"What have you found Mae?", he asks. "I thought it might have referred to flowers, but although I found some, none really seemed like they could be patted".
Mei's heart nearly jumps up into her throat as Mae calls out, her pulse an orchestral percussion in her ears. She closes her eyes and takes stock of her surrounding to ground herself back in the Here and Now. The telltale signs of a headache bloom white-hot at her temples as glimpses of the Dream cycle through her mind.
"It's just one outcome. Out of infinite possibilities. One small pattern in a tapestry of endless threads," she whispers to herself, the words not her own but rather repeated from a memory. This is why she is here. To better learn to read the patterns. To better decipher Possibility from Probability. To save--
Steeling herself, Mei opens her eyes, arms hugged in comfort around her middle. Then she turns to join the group in the Book Garden. "Have you found something to pet? Or, um... pat?" She puts on a dramatic voice as she recites, "'Bring me a shrubbery!" then looks about with a grin to see if anyone got the reference.

Malvyn too joins the others around the angelic Aasimar, hoping to be able to help with finding whatever they were supposed to pat, but although being in the Biblioplex he felt awkwardly out of place in this garden, plants not exactly being his strongest area of knowledge. "Ehm...what are we looking for?" He says a bit weakly after a while, looking over at Mae, but having a hard time looking right at the radiant girl.
Mae is the first to notice but Mellori also spots it right after. They each note a part of the greenery that is not just a shrub but an Awakened Shrub. The two have found two different ones, occasionally moving about the garden, and each with a glistening crown of leaves.
After his minor commune with the grass, Knap's attention is drawn to Mae’s voice. He hops to his hooves and follows.
“What is it, Mae? You’re having a plant moment too aren’t you? Anyone else feeling it? What did you see? Maybe I know something about it and the best way to scratch its ears.”
Mei turns to Guardok, hands clasped behind her back as she makes a show of pondering the question. "'One that looks nice... And not too expensive,'" she recites with a wry grin. It was one of her favorite plays performed by the visiting comedy troupes in the village, Ponty Mython.
When Knap mentions scratching its ears, Mei crouches with her knees pressed to her chest and looks curiously at a small bush, wondering which area on the plant would count as ears to scratch.
