vidruth wakes up from a dream half remembered, but hints of blood and conquest lie in the splintered memory of it in a way that always happens when he gets directions from gruumsh, soon the entire thing has faded except for an image of vidruth following and guarding the paladin.
getting up filled with joy and fear he dresses and tidies up his room, then heads down the stairs, armed again with his carved staff and carrying his gear, ready to leave on a moments notice.
when he reaches the place where nosam is talking to elsa he nods to her and waits for the conversation to end. then taps his staff on the floor once to get nosams attention "Nosam, how long do you see yourself traveling alongside kiselina? just long enough to save gundren with the rest of us? or do you intend to follow him on his mad plan to find an ancient legend?" there is a look in his eyes that speaks to you of fire and death tempered by wisdom and patience and a deep tiredness

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

Committing himself to the group for now, Nosam lets Vidruth know in the most vague way possible, "I may not know what each of the coming days will bring, but I'll be looking to turn a profit as long as I'm around and breathing. If you're near the gold, then I reckon I'll be there too."
"Good mornin' Lady Elsa, why don't you look lovely today. Could I trouble you for some coffee, preferably in the largest receptacle you can find back there?""Have you happened to see any of the motley bunch I have been trouncing around with; "
Elsa moves as if in a dream, her face, normally the color of coffee cake without the crumble, is paler than usual, and her eyelids droop as she manages her morning chores listlessly. But when Nosam calls out to her, circles of color appear on her cheeks, and she blushes reprovingly, though behind a bright smile.
“No, Mr. Lightfound, ya must just call me Elsa,” she giggles. But you can tell she is enjoying the attention nonetheless and continues her chores with a springier step. She brings out a mug of coffee.
“No, Mr. Lightfound, I haven’t seen… oh!,” she stops as Vidruth appears behind Nosam. “Well, I’ll leave you to it.”
(OOC: @Ben: (OOC: I assume that 1 gp covers his stay at the inn: room (5 sp) + gallon of ale (2 sp) + stew + breakfast.)
Yes, that covers it, except breakfast won't be offered before you want to go. Relatedly, you would only have needed to consume 1/2 day's ration on the 3rd day of your journey.)
(OOC: Got it. Thanks!
Reiterating / expanding since I put the morning info in my previous post...)
As soon as Marten wakes up in the morning, he gathers his gear and takes everything downstairs and outside into the early morning light to check his gear and get ready for the day. In the wilderness, a man often lives and dies by his gear. Once he's done checking and repacking everything securely, he wanders over to the Town Green to stretch his legs.
Marten always finds the sight of mountains in the first light of dawn to be uplifting. The day feels full of possibilities, and it makes him hopeful that they will find Gundren still alive and well.
If Marten finds a public well in the Town Green, he'll draw some fresh water and refill his waterskin. After that, if Marten hasn't seen anyone else from the group, yet, he'll return to the inn to look for the others. When he sees Kiselina, he mentions, "Looks like Barthen's is open, when yer ready."
Marten appears awake, alert, and ready to go, but he'll wait quietly until the group has gathered and is ready to depart.
When Daphyra enters the Shrine of Luck, the tassel-capped priestess, the completion of whose morning prayer Daphyra would have no doubt politely awaited, takes a slow breath, and a steadying calm emanates from her.
Now that you are closer, you see that there would have been no need to awaken her. For she is an elf, her age impossible to tell, of soft copper-hued complexion, her face punctuated by a nose which slopes outwards like a trumpet’s flaring bell, and just as shiny in its soft copper coloration. Her eyes, small and widely spaced, open slowly from her prayer – you catch your breath – and they have no irises, but flow like liquid blue, like the deep, clear water of a mountain spring.
“Good morning, Daphyra Fuffle, daughter of Bastet. I am Sister Garaele. May Tymora's blessings shower upon you like a gentle rain, and may your heart be open to the ever-changing dance of luck that she weaves.”
She listens calmly to the harengon’s introduction.
“You are correct. Among the few hundred persons of Phandalin, I have been the sole guardian of the community’s spiritual life these three years. Is there another temple? There was. What you see around you now are stones from it. No, nothing transpired there, save the passage of time. When thinking persons came back to Phandalin so recently, this is all there was of the old temple remaining. With help, these stones were transported here and this shrine was built.
"I am sure your superiors were correct, Daphyra Fuffle. Daughter of Bastet. But whether or not you learn depends not upon their decision or mine. It depends upon you, does it not?”
THE OTHERS
Kiselina and Berry (Bot #1): Kiselina and Berry make their morning preparations and, gathering up Nosam, Vidruth, and with a wave, Marten, head to Barthen’s Provisions.
Barthen stops what he’s doing when he sees you approaching, and stands upright behind the counter in his shop room. When you enter, a bell on the door dings softly, and when you look up at him you see him take a deep breath and start talking in a firm voice.
“Now, I sent a note your way yesterday evening, but I know Elsa can be forgetful sometimes. It’s just, I think you all should try to help Gundren don’t you? This is why…” his tone tells you he has organized a lengthy discourse on the topic.
Kiselina oversleeps most of the others although he doesn’t exactly know that he’s overslept the others. He’s also not used to the concepts of adventuring. As such, he leaves his gear in the room, for now. He comes to the common room and sees if anything is available for breakfast.
“If the Mistress doesn’t mind the company, I’d be willing to escort you to the shrine and meet Sister Garaele. Get a feeling for all the religious leadership in the area and town. To see, not replace or overshadow Tymora nor Bastet, but to see what praise other gods receive in these parts of the world.”
Remembering his offer, he looks for the cleric. Not seeing her, or hearing that she has gone on ahead, he heads to the shrine to see what the situation is. Afterwards, he will head to Barthen’s for supplies.
Berry isn't quite an early riser in contrast to what he thinks. Surprised that the others were already waiting for him, he simply grabbed some bread for breakfast to eat on the way and tried to pocket some more to restore last day's ration to a full one (Sleight of Hand: 23 - to be clear he tries to steal a half-day ration) . In a rush he picked up his equipment and hurried after the rest of the group not even realising that Daphyra and Kiselina are missing. At Barthen's he continues to munch on his bread while taking count, "Wait! We left Kiselina and Daphyra behind," he says and then nods to Barthen for way of greeting but clearly still trying to find his own bearings.

"Well alright Elsa, although I don't suppose you have to leave me to anything...and please, Nosam is sufficient. Mr. Lightfound is my father, but I digress." Nosam turns his conversation towards Vidruth again, although still locking eyes with Elsa. "I see the night wasn't as favorable for you Mister Vidruth, maybe some of Elsa's coffee'll help. Hah... don't think she's a miracle worker though." Nosam, enjoying his humor more than anyone else, grabs his belongings, bows to Elsa, and heads towards Vidruth and the exit. "Lead the way good buddy; strike fear in the hearts of all those who gaze upon you!"
Kiselina arrives at the end of Daphyra’s conversation with Sister Garaele. His tardiness means he doesn’t catch any of the conversation, thus he makes a note to ask Daphyra about the Sister’s philosophies, the shrine’s purpose, and other topics of conversation…should she decide to join the group. He does introduce himself before heading to Barthen’s, “Sister Garaele, a pleasure to make your acquaintance, I am Sir Kiselina of family Greyscale, a knight of Bahamut. If I may be of service to the shrine, you have but to ask.”
When he sees Kiselina, he mentions, "Looks like Barthen's is open, when yer ready."

(OOC: It's not clear to me whether Daphyra and Kiselina are among the group when we first enter Barthen's. @1973's post seemed to say that Daph and Kiselina were still at the shrine when the other four arrived at Barthen's.)
If Kiselina is not with the group (Berry, Nosam, Vidruth, and Marten) when they go to Barthen's, then...
Marten interrupts Barthen. Not on purpose! He just didn't realize that Barthen was about to launch into a longer speech:
“Now, I sent a note your way yesterday evening, but I know Elsa can be forgetful sometimes. It’s just, I think you all should try to help Gundren don’t you?
Marten starts to answer what he thought was a simple question, accidentally talking over Barthen's next sentence: "Yessir! Elsa deliver'd the note. Oh! Uh...beg'...beggin' pardon." Realizing that Barthen was starting to talk, he stutters to a stop. If Barthen lets him continue, he just says, 'Well, now. I reckon we agree with ye', sir. We're goin' back to the ambush site now...er jus' as soon as Kiselina and Mistress Daphyra join us. We'll bring back Gundren and Sildar if'n we can."
"But...our first job was to get to Phandalin, ye' understand," Marten explains, as he looks past Barthen, scanning the equipment on display. He continues, a little slower, clearly thinking about the gear and not the conversation now, "We need supplies 'fore we raid the goblins' hideout."
If Kiselina and Daphyra join the group before they go to Barthen's, then...
Marten falls in at the back of the group. He lets Kiselina and Berry talk to Barthen. He's a little unsure why Kiselina didn't simply tell Barthen that they are going to rescue Gundren, but he figures that the dragonborn will sort it out. He stops paying attention to the conversation after that and turns his attention to the equipment on display.
(Updated: added strikethrough to make the continuity with @1973's posts more clear.)
If I may be of service to the shrine, you have but to ask.”
Sister Garaele briefly interrupts her dialogue with Daphyra to return the greeting.
"Good morning, Sir Kiselina of family Greyscale. May Tymora's blessings shower upon you like a gentle rain."
Her head, with its tasseled cap, and her focus, turns back to Daphyra, allowing Kiselina to continue on to Barthen's Provisions with the others.
Sister Garaele listens patiently to Daphyra, her eyes, like bottomless mountain pools, shifting or rippling from time to time.
“Bastet has granted you power to make a difference when evil courses unchecked in the world. It would be an insult to your deity, or cowardice, to keep your powers to yourself in such a time as this.”
“Your room is ready in my home. It was built by the people of Phandalin to house the one – or ones – who care for their souls. You are welcome for as long as you bring Bastet to the people of Phandalin.”
“I see danger in the road before you, like leaves in late fall, scattered on every stone. You’ll have to watch where you put your feet, for with each step the danger grows...
“When you return, I will have a task for you. No, we will not speak more if it now.”
She bids you well.
“In Tymora's embrace, may you find the courage to face the unknown, the wisdom to seize opportunity, and the grace to weather adversity."
THE OTHERS
Barthen seems unable to change course. Apparently he’s spent the morning rehearsing what to say. But although he launches into his screed, Marten’s interruption manages to break through, derail the train of thought. He peters to a halt.
“And that’s why you should…”
He listens to Marten tell him that the party has decided to save Gundren, nodding and plainly relieved. He pauses, mops his brow for a moment, shifting the volume of locs cascading upon his shoulders, then a new thought takes hold when Marten mentions supplies.
“Here! I’ve put this aside for you. I’d rather give it to you than to them Redbrands, any day, t’ be sure.”
Piled on a side table are daily rations for six persons for three days.
“I’m relieved. You all stop back here if… when you make it back.”
He wishes you luck and says he’ll make an offering at the shrine today in your names. And Gundren’s.
(OOC: Were the rations all that Barthen has available? Or do we also have an opportunity to purchase any weapons or other adventuring gear from Barthen's?)
(OOC: Were the rations all that Barthen has available? Or do we also have an opportunity to purchase any weapons or other adventuring gear from Barthen's?)
(OOC: Barthen's does not carry weapons or armor. He does sell other adventuring gear, with a maximum value of 25gp.)
Daphyra bows gratefully to Sister Garaele. "My thanks, Sister, for your hospitality and generosity. I will see you soon, once we have sorted out this mess with the missing men. I look forward to time spent in prayer and service with you." She looks at her agile feet. "I will watch my step, Mistress. Thank you for the warning."
She bows to the shrine's altar and makes the sign of the Cat, before heading out.
She walks up the street to Barthen's with a spring in her step, her fluffy tail bouncing at her back. Her nose is twitching, experiencing the smells of her new part-time home.
As she meets up with the group at Barthen's, she announces herself. "Good morning all. I have spoken with the good Sister and she sends us on our way with her blessing."

(OOC: It's not clear to me whether Daphyra and Kiselina are among the group when we first enter Barthen's. @1973's post seemed to say that Daph and Kiselina were still at the shrine when the other four arrived at Barthen's.)If Kiselina is not with the group (Berry, Nosam, Vidruth, and Marten) when they go to Barthen's, then...Marten interrupts Barthen. Not on purpose! He just didn't realize that Barthen was about to launch into a longer speech:
If Kiselina and Daphyra join the group before they go to Barthen's, then...Marten falls in at the back of the group. He lets Kiselina and Berry talk to Barthen. He's a little unsure why Kiselina didn't simply tell Barthen that they are going to rescue Gundren, but he figures that the dragonborn will sort it out. He stops paying attention to the conversation after that and turns his attention to the equipment on display.(Updated: added strikethrough to make the continuity with @1973's posts more clear.)

DAPHYRA
