Starker will perform the ritual to summon his unseen servant. He will tell the unseen servant to empty the chest contents onto the floor of the room. We will pay attention to see whether or not this amount of disturbance triggers, the needle trap as the contents of the chest are Placed on the floor we look to see if there’s anything of interest
Chadwick will inquire what became of the horses that the party rode down from the Balder ranch. (Putting his actions here since it seemed more appropriate than the OOC discussion)
Horses
Yerrid Mannol is happy to see Chadwick when he arrives. Your four horses are at the livery with their riding saddles and gear. "That gnome wizard came by with some Barder Ranch hands to drop them off. Said you would be back for them soon," Yerrid tells you. "Gave me several gold coins as well to cover the cost. I owe someone some change in return."
Jievs performs as his master commands, always loyal. The lid opens easily and the contents are laid out upon the floor very nicely. You do not see or hear the needle trap spring from this. What you see on the floor is:
Fine clothes
Calligrapher’s supplies
Forgery kit
Diary of Iarno Albrek (see Iarno Albrek's Diary in Inventory. This is written entirely in Draconic. Hoid and Starker are able to read it.). Inside the book are the following:
Map fragment
Letter to Iarno instructing him to investigate Kellistor’s tower and try to gain
entry. Once inside he is to determine what is held there and how to
control it. It is signed AG. Also written in Draconic.
”Innkeeper, jow much did the wizardly miscreant owe you?”
if his answer is within a factor of two of what seems reasonable based on my room and board costs (accounting for the three henchmen) then Starker will give it to him out of the second purse.
"Bela!" Yells Chadwick jogging up to hug and nuzzle the shaggy brown mare. Clearing his throat and regaining his composure, "thank you Mr. Mannol for taking such good care of them." Brushing and patting Bela, he adds "She was too skinny when we rescued her from those red cloaked devils. I'm glad to see she's looking healthier (more baby talk to Bela). We'll need you to look after them for another couple of days if that's ok, then it's back to the grind for us. No rest for the wicked eh?" Chadwick says chuckling.
"Don't worry about any change, treat yourself, or donate to the relief fund for those hurt in the raid. You've earned so it's yours to do with as you wish." Chadwick gives Yerrid a hearty handshake, gives Bela a few more pets, then heads off to tell the others the good news about the horses.
Yarrid is surprised at Chadwick's generosity and stammers, "Well....that is very kind. We will be sure to make an offering to Chauntea on your behalf." He turns to walk back to the barn and stops, "Oh, the gnome also said he left something for you with Arnak."
The innkeeper seems greatly relieved at your gaining entrance to the room and finding nothing amiss. A look comes over him as he says, "Doesn't all of this belong to me? Since it was left unclaimed in my inn."
Hoid, to the innkeeper, “Some might say it is your property, but you might also consider our service fee for getting your door open. You might also consider our service fee for opening the chest and keeping you from being poisoned by the needle trap. How much is it worth to you to have access to your room again and not be dead from the poison needle?”
The innkeeper looks at Hoid, then to Starker, and back at Hoid. There is a brief twitch in his right eye. He looks at the trunk and says quietly, "Thank you for your service. His room for these past few weeks would have been 65 silver coins."
The map fragment appears to be quite old on vellum. It is difficult to make much of it. You see what appears to be a stream/river running by a forest and a square shape beside that.
Give him the whole second pouch. “I am glad we were able to help and am grateful you gave me the opportunity to show you the value of having a mage as a friend. My colleague and I will take the diary and the contents and the other purse, unless he prefers a different outcome.”
”Friend Hoid, are you content? Also, do you have an idea as to how we can render the chest and its attendant trap safe? I am uncomfortable leaving it here armed.”

Since Chadwick is already there he'll check for traps. 9, he found the trunk.
Hoid will try to pick the lock. Rolled 20. Think I get dex and proficiency on top of that, so should be 24.
(For future reference, with dex bonus and proficiency, Hoid is only one better than Gneuman with dex alone.)
Hoid is able to open the lock and the latch. The lid is free to be opened.
He also noted the presence of a spring loaded needle trap in the lock he was able to bypass. It remains armed.
Starker will perform the ritual to summon his unseen servant. He will tell the unseen servant to empty the chest contents onto the floor of the room. “Do the initials AG call anyone to mind?”
No. This thread should have the names of all the significant actors we know

(That nuts or not nuts?)
Not nuts at all
