(I apologize for losing track of the timeline. Is Chadwick or any of the others other than Hoid with us now? if so, Starker also asks if they are content.)
I guess we could leave it with innkeeper with a stern warning about the trap and advise him to find someone to disarm it?
Have Jievs tap rhe interior walls, bottom, lid of the chest with a coin in many places and listen gor changes of sound that might indicate hidden compartments. See if the dimensions look like one or more of the chest walls/top/bottom is oddly thick. Generally investigate chest and room for hidden stuff.
sending two investigation rolls (first chest, second rest of room).
Starker doesn’t have a horse. If his new companions travel by horse regularly perhaps he should purchase one.
”Chadwick, can you advise me as to where to buy a horse and perhaps advise me as to which horse to buy? I certainly do mot need a warhorse, and maybe even a stout pony is more appropriate. I just don’t want to slow us down.”
”Thank you, all, for your help in this little matter. If you care to join me, I’d like to report our findings to the local wizard, Arnak, in his tower. He might be able to help us think about map fragment and may know who assigned Iarlo the task of disturbing the Thing in the Tower.”
The innkeeper accepts the offered pouch, “Thank you good sirs! You have relieved a real problem for me. All of you,” he looks to Starker, “and your wizard friends are welcome at the Hallowed Tree Inn.”
(( you can distribute the found items among your character sheets. I will develop an item called Map Fragment in Inventory. Everyone gets 1pp, 3gp ))
"Hey all, just returned from Mr. Mannol's livery and he's been taking care of Bela and the other three horses. Erbert brought them back with some farm hands and was nice enough to pay for their care. He also mentioned that Erbert left something for us with Arnak."
"Starker, I would be happy to go with you to pick out a mount. I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but growing up on the farm taught me a thing or two about horses and other work animals. I wonder if a donkey or mule might be better though? They carry a lot for their size, and with as sure footed as they are we could bring it with us if we were to venture into a dungeon and needed help carrying gear."
(sounds like both timelines call for a bisit to Arnak, so I’ll just wait for the Horses timeline to accommodate it)
Horses: Starker: “If I am counting correctly and if my dwarven and gnomish friends do not wish for one of these horses perhaps I can buy it from them? As I was not present during the adventure during which they were earned, I have no claim to one.”

“Master Starker, horses are not ideal for those with a lower center of gravity. Please use one, I intend to either procure a donkey and or trade a horse for one.”
Cyrus Magnus chitters angrily as Starker calmly explains the difference between a mount and a familiar. He placates the wee spider monkey with a plantain and a promise of a jaunty pork pie hat.
“How long before we are to head north? In the meantime (if there is indeed time) shall we see Arnak at his tower?”

I’m ok with giving him the contents of the second pouch.
As for the needle trap, I would be inclined to apply a very large hammer or axe to the chest. Repeatedly. Unless the chest itself has value.

(( Two asynchronous lines in progress, Trunk and Horses. Everyone present who wants to be for both. ))
Trunk
The trunk shows no signs of hidden compartments. The room is clean and empty,
Horses:

I believe that this is now resolved.
Horses
Any action here?
Does Gneuman have a horse? Pony? Goat? Can I buy one?
Mounts can be purchased for listed prices as well as saddles and harnesses.
You currently have four riding horses as a group.

Keep in mind that horses will be too big for dwarven or gnomish riders.
I want to ride a St. Bernard.

Is a pony too big for Gneuman? If not, I'm buying one.
If it is too big, I'll get a mule.
Pony should be fine.
Ride that Pony and shock the monkey!
