We have leas than a minute before he wakes up. Let me send Cyrus in to see what can be seen if your curiosity is uncontrollable. He will be easier to deal with if he in turn becomes enslaved than you would be. Pray watch over me whil I use his eyes instead of mine.

Starker reports: “Cyrus scampered into the room beyond the ajar door. It is a pie-piece shaped room. There are two large wooden chests with stout iron bands and locks in the room. Nothing else.
Starker opines: “Perhaps one or both chests are cursed or trapped? I could go up and detect magic up there, though it will take 10 minutes to perform the ritual. I’ll do so unless someone has a better idea. If I am enslaved, I warn you that I have only used two spells today, Mage Armor and Sleep, so I could be slightly dangerous. Do not bunch up. Please use the blunt ends of your weapons to subdue me.”
goes up and (re)starts the detect magic ritual unless someone objects.
If this guy does anything hostile to me- Darkness on his head and help me bring him to his senses or senseless, no time to be picky if a wizard goes loopy.
Starker completes the ritual and starts his 10 minutes of Detecting Magic. He reports: “There is some residual magic on the door, radiating Abjuration. As if there was an effect on the door that is there no longer. Something inside the left chest is radiating magic, Necromancy. Using the pearl I’ve been entrusted with by the party, I can Identify the spell on the left chest more precisely. That ritual to do this will take another ten minutes or so. It requires that the object be touched, but fear not for me, as I can use Cyrus for that part of the procedure. Before I start, is there anywhere else you’d like me to Detect Magic?
“I do note that we are lingering at the scene of multiple crimes and that daylight cometh and with it perhaps witnesses, workers, or constables, or some other unlucky people we will need to hit on the head. We may run out of room to pile the bodies.”
"Either we take the chest radiating magic or attempt to open and remove?", "I think we are past the point of being able to hide the fact we were here!"
"Were there pack animals to pull the wagon? Was that our plan of exit? If so, and we believe that our best method of exiting, we should harness the animals to the wagon." Kragen begins to look about for pack animals, not seeing any?
Kragen nods to the group and gets on with this dirty business at hand, frowning. Pulls his Holy Water, splashes it about, spraying others in the general area.
Cast Bless on himself and two others in his general vicinity.
Walks up to the chest on the left, which radiates magic, examines it and then attempts to open it if all appears normal.
“Remember, whatever is in there exudes necromantic vibrations. Careful when opening the lid and rummaging around. I’ll be standing just outside the room, cowering by the wall near the door. Good luck!”
Looking inside you see the following: An old oaken bucket filled with mismatched silver spoons; a 8" crystal sphere filled with water, a frondy plant and an ornamental fish; A pair of large balloon leg pantaloons made of blue velvet and sewn with tiny pearls depicting flamingos and an oblong black lacquered box with brass fittings and hasp.
Free actions at this point now that Hoid is subdued.
Chadwick will use lay on hands (25 HP) and is at the ready in case someone or something comes out of the office which he is watching closely.
"I wonder if it's one of those mind flayers that the captain warned us about? I think we need to subdue whatever it is before we can move out."
Chadwick will wait to see what the consensus is before charging up the stairs. He seems a little rattled after the beat down from Hoid.

Kragen separates Hoids great sword from his person to protect himself and others from harm. Handing it to Chadwick to hold on to for the interim.
grabs Hoid by the shoulders and pulls him off to the side.
then prepares himself for what Starker may find.

Trolkarl waits outside the room with the fey.

In the meantime let’s keep a close eye on him
Starker is casting Detect Magic as a ritual. Hoid wakes up and is his normal self.
Is anyone taking any actions?
Chadwick asks Hoid "Do you remember what happened before you woke up down here?"
Touched the door.
Starker completes the ritual and starts his 10 minutes of Detecting Magic. He reports: “There is some residual magic on the door, radiating Abjuration. As if there was an effect on the door that is there no longer. Something inside the left chest is radiating magic, Necromancy. There are no animals.
Starker: “ It is not the chest radiating magic. It is something within the chest. Walking about, I found no other sources of magic.
“Let’s grab the Ark and skeedadle!”
Kragen attempts to open the left side chest and finds that it is locked.
Starker casts Knock on the left chest’s lock.
“Remember, whatever is in there exudes necromantic vibrations. Careful when opening the lid and rummaging around. I’ll be standing just outside the room, cowering by the wall near the door. Good luck!”
The lock on the chest pops open after Starker casts Knock with a loud KNOCK report.
"Thank you Master Starker! Any guidance as to which one radiated necromantic magic?"
If Starker has no idea, Kragen starts to gather the items as such.
Stands up and looks to the Frondy plant and oaken bucket
"Anyone care to grab those and we can get out of here, or we leave them?"
These are all one thing. Like a Sno-Globe but with a plant and a fish inside.
