Chadwick steps forward and unleashes the latter 2/3 of his name on the Oni. It crashes to the ground in a heap. A dead heap. It bulging eyes now lifeless.
Darkbane’s light wanes and winks out.
The shadows start to drift away from you, out beyond the light of the Driftglobe. In the distance you hear the flutter of small wings, and, the rustle of *something* larger.
(Heading into office where no personal electrocis allowed. Caching Starker’s actions as I think he is next. )
Starker, panicked: “Please save me, Friends! One touch from those penumbral presagers of pestillence and I am as weak as Cyrus. Another touch and I will die!”
Firebolt (2d10, halved on miss) shadow most in the way of our hopefully rapid retreat.

Hoid, being the official scavenger of The Company, will search the Oni for items of interest. If nothing else, he will pick up the glaive. He will then go back to retrieve his maul and the pouch that the Oni dropped. He will inspect the pouch for useful contents. Finally, he will inspect ogre corpses for valuables. Early in the process, he will offer a suggestion that others can participate in the process to expedite it.
If Starker is too weak or frightened, Hoid will pick up the figurine and hand it back to Starker.
Finally, Hoid says, “We need to recover. Do we try to do so here, knowing the difficulties we have had healing, or make a hasty exit and rest in the company of the Stonejaw brothers?”

Gneuman: "It seems that we are in no condition to continue at this time. As Hoid has indicated, recovering in this place seems futile. Let us regroup outside this place....quickly."
The Company starts to collect itself after the tough fight with the ogres and their apparent leader, the oni. You are standing amongst several large stone structures whose domes extend 20' high. Chimneys then climb to the underside of the deck above and you see them then track to the edge of the above deck and into the mountainside rock. There are anvils set around the faces of these structures and what appear to be settings for hinges. These are the forges!! It is the heart of any dwarven community. The furnaces you see are in great disrepair and much of the equipment has been removed. There are two casting forms lying on the ground leading from the central furnace and a crucible sits in its cradle on that furnace. Kragen and Hoid are able to point out where supporting beams would be set into the stone for the winches and pulleys to operate the furnaces and other equipment. Anvils are scattered about the floor as well.
Five dead ogres and the oni lie where you killed them. The pouch the oni tossed onto the ground lies there as well. Walking around the area you see coins are scattered all about. All seem to be coppers. There is a great deal of them in the 30' radius from the central furnace. Many of the chunks of coal are about. Those that Starker ignited continue to smolder and give off a dim light in patches, like a candlelight. Thankfully, they do not seem to have started a chain reaction lighting other chunks of coal around them. Sitting on the lip of the central furnace is a jade statuette. It is carved from a single piece of jade and seems to depict the oni. You guess it is worth 500g to the right buyer.
The mountain becomes quiet. Very quiet. And very still. Again you feel as if the surrounding, inky darkness has eyes and is watching you itself. Cyrus is jittery and looking at Starker frequently. He is clearly unsettled. Ajax comes to land upon Gneuman's shoulder and sits close to Gneuman's body. The small black dog statuette sits on the ground where he was struck down by the oni.
Chadwick starts to strategize the best he can. "Do we take the time to cast Prayer of healing before moving on? I have owe 2nd level spell left. Unfortunately I have nothing prepared to help Starker regain his strength. I could summon Freya for him to ride.
/OOC So I accidentally prepared the summon steed spell in addition to the free casting version Paladins wasting a spell slot. And it seems the free casting didn't get reset after our nights rest. So either with the grace of the DM I could cast the free version, or use his last 2nd level slot to cast the spell version.
"I don't trust that statue, seems odd that it hasn't been looted while everything around it has. I also wouldn't take the purse of coins, seems suspicious like he was trying to trap us (or maybe it was just a rouse to distract us to try and get away). We can always loop back later and check for ill magics."
Hoid, “I agree with Gneuman. Recovering outside the mine is more likely to be productive. Going outside should only a take a few extra minutes. Without the magical mastiff, we have no expiring timer either. As for not touching anything and leaving it behind, too late. I already know the pouch has 58 platinum coins and a small key. My uneducated guess is that the ogres left monetary offerings to the Oni by way of the statue and the Oni discarded the copper. But that is just a guess. The key is likely useful somewhere around here.”
"Friends, I agree that we need to resurface to recover from this evil place, however would it be worth spending a few minutes for me to call upon Tyr's help (prayer of healing)? This would provide some recovery in our ascent back to the surface. If we encounter other foes, the additional rest may provide needed capabilities to make it out alive."
Looks to the group before continuing with the ritual.
(BTW, this would be an L3 spell. Although muted by the evil in this place, would still provide 3d8+5 of healing x the negative modifier of the evil God Xagyg)
Chadwick noticing that the others are searching says to Kragen "Please cast the spell and grace us with Tyr's healing. I'll keep lookout." Louder so rest of The Company can hear "Stay within 30' of Kragen for Tyr's healing and recovery."
He stays near Kragen while he casts and keeps watching as best as he can within the Daylight spell effects.
While Hoid was investigating the dead, Kragen moved to the main furnance and noticed something interesting inside. Pointing to the internal part of the furnace.
"I am seeing a small glow in the furnace as if it were still lit? Appears to be a glowing coal or ember at the back?"
Attempts to reach inside and see if there is heat coming from the embers or glowing coal.
(i am hearing some concensus that we leave and no Prayer of Healing, good to go then when all are.)
"I am certain that the forge is still active, somehow? This could be what the Stonejaws were so eager to discover."
"Let us be about it then and back to the surface.", "We can recover, refresh and reload as i would have this place purged of the Evil that permeates this once great Dwarven dwelling."
"Those most injured, to the center of the group."
"Sir Chadwick, we may want to keep the Globe alight as i suspect ghastly figures lurk shadows."
Starker:”Thank you for recovering Meganephos. I am indeed too weak and frightened. I will huddle in The Company’s middle as we move out of this cthonic catastrophe. Please do not let the shadows kill me!”
While searching through the ogres, you notice that they all have some kinds of salve smeared on their bodies. It is smelly and thick in consistency. While looking around the area you find 2 buckets that have the same smelly goop in them.
Bloodied and weakened, The Company makes its way back the way it came to the entrance tunnel. Thankfully, this trip is completed without being molested. Fluttering wings can be heard in the distance on one occasion. Another great crashing wave sounds through the mountain as well. Crawling through the tunnel created by the Stonejaws leads to the bright light of day. The light is blinding at first until your eyes adjust. Looking about you see no sign of the dwarves. It is late afternoon now.

Trolkarl fires two beams of [spell]Eldritch Blast[/spell at the oni. Both miss.
Chadwick to act.
(If the Oni was reduced to zero, then I had an option from Hew.)
Chadwick runs through the rest of the company getting up a head of steam "sorry-excuse-me-other-way-too-rocky".
Attack 1 -18, dam 8
Attack 2 - 22, dam 13
BA - pole strike 25 to hit, dam 9
Roles assume Chadwick's advantage cancels the disadvantage to make attacks a normal role and includes bless and HM.
All assumptions true.

I agree with leaving everything. We are here to find the source of troubles for the Stonejaws, not collect coins.
Spending time to recover in case we run into anything on the way out seems wise. Perhaps back at the lift.

Kragen discerns no heat within the forge. The ember in question is well out of a stubby dwarf arm’s reach.
During your deliberations about how to proceed an eerie wail comes from below, filling the cavern with its bone-chilling cry.
"I am certain that the forge is still active, somehow? This could be what the Stonejaws were so eager to discover."

Turns to head towards the entrance.
Starker:”Thank you for recovering Meganephos. I am indeed too weak and frightened. I will huddle in The Company’s middle as we move out of this cthonic catastrophe. Please do not let the shadows kill me!”
"Tyr will protect you Mage Starker, fear not."
The intrepid party heads for the exit.
