Up to five creatures of your choice who remain within range for the spell’s entire casting gain the benefits of a Short Rest and also regain 2d8 Hit Points. A creature can’t be affected by this spell again until that creature finishes a Long Rest.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The healing increases by 1d8 for each spell slot level above 2.
Okay a slight nerf to healing for a short rest... yeah I'll take that deal.
This is a great addition for the paladin!
I might be really dumb for asking this, but I would assume we don't get to expend hit dice when using this spell? Or can we choose to do so alongside the normal benefits of a short rest?
Yeah, a Short Rest is a big deal for some classes.
My understanding is you get all the benefits that only require a Short Rest and no other condition, so you could expend Hit Dice, etc.
If a feature said "after 30 minutes, such as during a Short Rest...", then that feature would not work if the party takes only 10 minutes as per the spell. But the 10 minutes here is a real Short Rest as such.
So basically you get to expend Hit Dice, heal for 2d8 and get your stuff back? Thank [insert any god] none of my players are Clerics atm.
Once a day mind you.
Also, in practice, often an imaginary 1 hour rest or an imaginary 10 minutes of rest feels the same for the players and in the story. :P Except if time is a factor considered in a particular mission or situation.
Fair points, but once you get Divine Intervention you can take a short rest as an action mid-combat. So that'd be 2d8 + whatever hit dice you expend in healing, + any class/racial features that recharge on short rests like Second Wind or Channel Divinity, + Pact Magic spell slots, etc.
I'm looking at playing a Forge cleric / Rune Knight fighter, so that'd mean I'd get a Channel Divinity charge, Second Wind charge, Action Surge and RK Rune charges back as an action, not to mention what the rest of the group might get back.
Doing that mid-boss fight feels like it could be VERY strong, though too be fair it's also sort of part of the fantasy I suppose. I'm gonna call it Divine Second Wind.
Public Service Announcement: The new Divine Intervention lets you cast this as an action in combat and it's not limited but subclass or domain, any cleric can do it from level 10.
School is wrong, should be Abjuration.
lame.
I rather liked old healing prayer simply being a efficient out of combat healing option. Perhaps with the buffs to cure wounds healing twice as much as before this is no longer needed but I won't say this won't be missed.
As neat as hastening a short rest is, do I really want to prepare a spell that can only be cast once per day? That's... weird.
