Milo spends most of the time watching the red light. Working out if it is a clue like the angel statues. Before realising that Hunteros is not Hunteros. He is not too quick to jump out of the way (Dex save 10) but a bit faster to react to the fight starting (Initiative 14)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The torrent of fire quickly engulfs the ones standing nearest to Hunteros. Brix, coming late to the confrontation, manages to duck down quick enough to avoid most of the danger. At the corner of his eyes, he can see a translucent barrier wrapping around his skin and that of his friends, protecting him and them from the worst of the flame. The barrier dissipates when the fire stops.
When the flame dies down, everyone can see that it hurts Hunteros just as much as it hurts them. Hunteros, or whoever he is supposed to be now, coughs and spits a mouthful of blood to the floor. He may not be able to do the same thing again.
"Didn't think this body is this weak," Hunteros comments with a bloody grin. "And it appears Little Prana is protecting you."
Breath Weapon Damage: 5 {{Myrla and Inge take half damage (4). The rest takes quarter damage (2). Hunteros will take this damage too, halved, but there is visible change in him that tells you that he may be stronger than he usually is. This is a one-time thing.}}
{{I can't remember if I have ever written a dialogue here since we start, but I always colour-code what the person says. I defaulted to orange because that's the colour I use in another campaign. I'll use blue for this campaign just to differentiate. Feel free if you want to use colour too, but it's not mandatory. It's fine as it is.}}
{{Wadi and Milo, you are up at the top of the initiative. What do you want to do?}}
Milo will run up to not Hunterosand swing twice at him, one with each of his rapiers. First swing 26 for 11 damage, second 16 also for 11 damage (despite not being a crit)."Prana I don't know who you are but thank you."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hunteros grunts as the first rapier pierces his shoulder, but he bats away the other rapier with the fire blade in his off-hand. Milo can feel the heaviness of the blade of fire despite its rather non-solid form.
With a grin Hunteros returns Milo's attacks in kind, swinging one of his blades of fire. There is a glint of madness in his burning eyes. Whoever this is, despite having Hunteros' appearance, is definitely not Hunteros. It is unknown whether this is another personality of Hunteros or, as absurd as it is, Hunteros is being possessed by another entity. But, seeing the bloody grin on Hunteros' face, it is clear that this person or creature means business and would not hesitate to do harm. Seeing Wadi's hesitation, he swings his other blade of fire toward him.
Hunteros 1st Attack to Milo: 20 Damage: 6 fire damage. Hunteros 2nd Attack to Wadi: 14 Damage: 10 fire damage.
Not being as versed in the arts martial Brix runs up to with in 15 ft but holds back and waits for the moment to arrive where he can be the most effective.
(Brix will ready spare the dying if someone should take lethal damage.)
Myrla takes her shield and dons it quickly, then draws her rapier while beginning to move towards Hunteros, Milo and Wadi. She takes her place next to Milo, or if possible between Milo and Wadi, and prepares to engage with Hunteros in melee. "Stand down, Hunteros, or whoever you are! We outnumber you five to one. And that's not even counting our friend Prana!"
Action: She dons her shield (AC 19) Move: up to 35 feet towards the melee
Inge is still flummoxed by what in the world is happening here. Attacking beasts and monsters, she knows. But former comrades?
She charges diagonally so she is laterally 10' to the side of this strange thing that Hunteros has become, and attacks twice non-lethally with the flat of her glaive blade and spinning it once more to strike with the haft (10' range on both melee attacks). But her uncertainty interferes with her technique and both attacks become clumsy misses. Growling to herself, she steps back to the side, 15' away.
(Positioning herself instinctively so that a further breath attack on her would not hit anyone else).
Glaive to hit: 8 (2 on d20) Polearm Master bonus attack with haft of glaive to hit: 12 (6 on d20) (OOC: won't bother to roll damage... that's successive d20 rolls of 5, 1, 2, 6... sometimes in these stretches, it feels as if I'm rolling a d6, not a d20).
{{I don't really keep a strict initiative order. You can post in any order you like but keep the enemy's initiative in mind. So, Milo and Wadi can go in any order they want, but after that it is Hunteros' turn. Then, Myrla, Inge, and Brix, can also go in any order they want before we return to the top of the round.}}
Inge tries to attack with the same ferocity she would an enemy, but this is Hunteros. He was a hunting partner. Despite his change in behaviour, it is hard to attack a friend. Her attacks come in weaker than it could be and Hunteros easily ducks away from one and bats away the other. Inge feels the same sensation as Milo, that the blade of fire is very much solid despite its fluttering form.
In the midst of the fight, Hunteros becomes noticeably redder. Under the glare of the red light of the corridor, Hunteros' scale becomes more crimson. There is a healthy flush on his scales, but the area around his chest is pulsing with yellow-golden veins that are slowly spreading across his torso.
{{Update on positioning: Milo, Wadi, and Myrla are in melee range surrounding Hunteros. Inge is slightly to the side (I assume maintaining melee) 10 ft away. Brix is keeping his distance 5 ft behind Inge, but ready to move in. Still no map. Sorry. But this should be a straightforward brawl. Probably...}}
Milo puts survival above all else. Based on what Prana said, the Hunterosthey knew is no more already. So he attacks with ruthless precision with both rapiers (2 more Nat 20s. Sorry Inge, stealing your luck).
{{Wadi, give me a Nature or straight Intelligence check. You will get an answer even if you get a bad roll but know that this is your entire Action. If you have a Bonus Action, go ahead and post it. If you still want to do an Action, you will get an answer on the colour depending on how well you roll.}}
Milo's attack pierces the area around the pulsing veins on Hunteros' chest. Hunteros roars in pain and his eyes turn redder. All of a sudden, the air around him becomes scalding hot and steam starts to waft around his body. The fire scimitar in his hands turns whiter and his movement becomes a little bit faster.
As sweat starts to roll down everyone's skin, Hunteros grins wider. He looks toward Wadi and Inge. "I recognize your smell, little Dawnchaser and little Helstrom," he says as he swings his scimitars toward Wadi. Wadi manages to step back and away from the blades.
1st Attack: 16 to hit 2nd Attack: 15 to hit
{{I believe both are a miss against Wadi.}}
{{Milo, I've adjusted your damage to 18 and 15. Because of the crunchy crit, I've taken only the first damage roll and added maximum dice (8) to that first damage roll and modifier. So, 8+6+4 and 8+3+4}}
{{Also, at the end of Hunteros' turn, everybody takes 1 fire damage as the air around him drastically gets hotter.}}
Concerned that he would only get in the way should he attempt to join the fray, Brix continues to hold back ready to provide medical assistance if needed.
(Prepared reaction: should a member of the group take fatal damage Brix will cast spare the dying.)
As Hunteros lunges at Wadi, Myrla's keen eyes spot an opening in his defenses. With a swift and graceful movement, she thrusts her rapier towards Hunteros, aiming for his exposed flank. The blade finds its mark, drawing a thin line of crimson across his armor. Seizing the moment, Myrla presses her attack, delivering a series of quick and precise strikes, each one aimed at exploiting Hunteros's vulnerabilities.
Reaction (to Hunteros attack on Wadi - Sentinel feat): attack @Hunteros, hit 24 for 6 damage Action: attack @Hunteros, hit 25 for 10 damage
"Who's 'Helstrom'?" Inge grumbles as her skin starts to sear. "You're the one who smells. Come get me, stinker."
Again, closing to within 10', she spins her glaive, attacking with the blade, then the haft, then stepping away.
Movement: towards not-Hunteros within 10', attack, then back away, not grouped with anyone so if she is targeted with an area of effect, no one else is.
