[OOC: Sorry that was a bit confusing but Vex is only sniffing the air and looking into the crevice, he is not checking the bridges for traps, that was a suggestion to the rest of the group, for someone else to go look. :) ]

Daewen pulls her cloak hood up over her head (stealth: 9) and quietly pads into the cavern area, and like Vex, is quietly going from cover to cover until she can get a good look down into the crevice (perception: 16) and then uses her thieving skills to look for traps at the bridges (investigation: 16).

Round 1 1. Vex, 2. Daewen, 3. Wilhorn, 4. Marcon (random player roll 4) << your turn after surprise round
Surprise Round, crawling out of the crevasse is a Nothic. It immediately uses its Rotting Gaze attack on the random player 4 Rotting Gaze, make a Constitution Save against magic, DC 12 or take 7 necrotic damage, save takes nothing.
Vex screams in pain as the creature stares into his soul and falls to the ground shaking from the pain. As he slowly gets back up, looking over his shoulder quickly to see if Dorah is fine, he will bring up his handcrossbow and fire at the creature, aiming for its eye. Dorah snarls at the creature as she once again breaths on the bolt as it flies toward the target.
Handcrossbow Attack: To Hit 18 Piercing: 8 Infused Strike: 2 Total: 10
Without thinking, Wilhorn unleashes an Eldritch Blast at the abomination.
Attack: 23 Damage: 9 force (in game log)
The force bolt streaks to its target, rippling the air in its wake.
He glances over to Vex to assess how hurt he is. And to lament how unfortunate he has been of late. He can hold his own for now, he thinks.
Wilhorn shifts his position to the side, both to allow others a clear shot, and to set up a crossfire which limits the creature’s ability to avoid the ranged onslaught it so certainly deserves.
With a look of stoic determination, born from centuries of warfare with undead like the nothic, Daewen reacts on muscle memory alone, quickly undoing her bow from its storage satchel on her back, pops out from cover, and quickly slings a well-aimed arrow at the horrid monster:

Marcon, seeing how easily this creature can be injured, decides to put away his longbow and attack head on. As he moves toward the creature, he stows his daikyu and unsheathes his kama. He slashes at the creatures single large eye with his blade: Attack: 10 Damage: 5
He then calls upon his ki energy to enable him to attack with speed and overwhelm the creature with unarmed strikes. He snaps his right leg up into the nothic's chest, then, leaping into the air, switches legs as he kicks the creature in the jaw with his left leg.

He slashes at the creatures single large eye with his blade: Attack: 17 Damage: 7 Kick one: Attack: 22 Damage: 8
The Nothic takes 7 and then 8 damage (dead, -10, -9, -11, -8, -7, -8)
Nothic (dead)
Gain 112 XP each
If you carefully climb down into the crevasse, 20 feet below, you will find the Nothic's nest. The Nothic has been hording treasure in a large (broken) wooden chest:
a scroll of augury two potions of greater healing five malachite gems worth 15 gp each (75 gp) 13 gp, 116 sp, 185 cp
A History Check DC 15 will let you know that 300 years ago, a knight lived in this manor, named Sir Aldith, known as the Black Hawk. He lead a band of soldiers in a war against the orcs. These magic items were lost to time, and have been inscribed with the shape of a bird of prey, signifying that they belonged to "Black Hawk" himself and his band of knights.
Marcon climbs down, and comes back with the magic items.
"Found these. Two pairs of bracers of archery. Vex definitely should have one. If alright with y'all, I'd like the second set. Wilhorn, you want the bracers of defense? and I don't know what this pearl is. There's also a ton of treasure down there. "
Current Campaign(s): Dungeons, Darkness, Drow, and Demons, an Out of the Abyss Adventure, Dungeon Delvers, a Dungeon of the Mad Mage Adventure, Jungle of Evil, a Tomb of Annihilation Adventure
The large open room has an obvious obstacle in the center of the room with a 20 foot drop into a crevasse.
Marcon climbed down scaling the wall with an Athletics/Acrobatics check DC 13 (roll now if you haven't already), and can use the same result to climb up on the other side of the crevasse.
However, everyone else who have a Strength score of 10 or higher can attempt to clear the 10 foot gap with a 10 ft running start and an Athletics Check of DC 10. Someone with a Strength Score of 8 or lower would only be able to clear 8 feet and fall short. You may be able to have someone from the other side catch you with an Athletics Check of DC 12, to make up for those 2 feet.
Once everyone is on the other side, you immediately see a large opening, in the side of the wall, covered in overbrush, but clearly leading outside of the castle.
You also see two short hallways on the western wall, leading to two more stone staircases, to another lower level.
Staircase 1, is further North Staircase 2, is close to the hole in the wall and is all the way South.
* Do you want to short rest and have the opportunity to re-attune your magic items? * Leave the castle, now that you have found another entrance * Keep moving deeper underground to the sub basement level, either taking North Staircase or South Staircase * Do something else, go wild, go nuts

If the party is split, let's bring them all into the large room, and roll initiative.
