ERKY too will follow XANTHand RAGDOR. (DM - I am certain everyone heads toward the rumbling sound.)
When XANTH and RAGDOR reach the end of the tunnel, it opens up into a broader cavern, much larger than the Bugbear's cave. Near where the tunnel enters the cavern you will see a thirty foot wide hole in the ground. When you look into the hole you can see the end of a massive purplish creature over fifty feet down. You also notice massive wide snake-like tracks heading from the vast cavern toward the hole.
But no PORTIA. She is nowhere to be seen.
You will notice that her Magic Dagger is on the ground near the wide hole.
(Below is an image to give the party some idea of the size and scale of the creature that is now burrowing its way deep into the earth.)
Upon inspection of the hole, the sight of the creature and the tracks, can I recall any knowledge of the creature? Particularly what might provoke it to attack? nature19
RAGDOR will know that they are called Purple Worms. They are vicious creatures notorious for attacking Dwavern mining operations deep below the earth. It could be something the Bugbear was doing while digging pits to lay traps that might have drawn the monster to the area.
Whispering to his friends, keep alert to attack from beneath your feet, this'll be a helluva fight. Ragdor shields his from any light, peering into the to see if my infravision can help me see signs of Portia.
(@Xanth, you don't know. All you know she is gone and there is this massive creature, plenty large enough to swallow Portia whole, burrowing straight down into the ground making further distance every second.)
Looking at the dark elf, so missy, down this cave system is where you're from? If'n so then what we're looking isn't that way. Sorry about lady Portia mates. Ragdor sends out a quick prayer to the bearded lady in Portia's honor, then heads back to the bugbear liar.
Xanth heads over to Glynt "Here take this or give it to someone that can use it." He hands him the magic dagger. "Well east or south?" He will look for tracks Survival=17 unless he can get adv. or guidance if so, High number would be 20.
Glynt will take the magic dagger from Xanth and making eye contact with him he quietly says "I'll mind it for now, and if things go well it might get a new minder soon - once we know that trust isn't going to be an issue." while subtly eyeing Bix.
He will then mutter to himself slightly louder "Faster Purple Worm, Kill Kill"

Ragdor will toss the dark elf her weapons, then turn to dash after Xanth, come on missy, sounds like trouble!

Xanth will knee down by the hole lowering his head. "Tell me spirits is our companion among our number now?"
@GM In other words, is she dead?
(@Xanth, you don't know. All you know she is gone and there is this massive creature, plenty large enough to swallow Portia whole, burrowing straight down into the ground making further distance every second.)
Xanth will take the dagger an till someone else wants it or we find her again.
Bix will grab her weapons and follow the others. I have never seen such a creature'
Xanth, you wanna risk searching this room or shall we back out and head a different way?
Glynt will put his hand to the ground and feel the rumblings of the ground to give the others a warning if the vibrations start to increase.
Perception: 16
GLYNT will determine that the vibrations are become more distant as time goes on.
(What does the party do next?)

(The party is back in the Bugbear's lair.)
Sir Ragdor, this cave does lead to Underdark. I have not seen any strangers here.
Xanth heads over to Glynt "Here take this or give it to someone that can use it." He hands him the magic dagger. "Well east or south?" He will look for tracks Survival=17 unless he can get adv. or guidance if so, High number would be 20.
Guess one's as good as the other, Missy have you been through either door? Ragdor moves to the east door and listens perception 12
XANTH detects more tracks to the east door.
RAGDOR can faintly hear something to the east door. Nothing to the south door.
Glynt will take the magic dagger from Xanth and making eye contact with him he quietly says "I'll mind it for now, and if things go well it might get a new minder soon - once we know that trust isn't going to be an issue." while subtly eyeing Bix.
