As you head south, you near the Aldani Basin. The Soshenstar and Tath rivers flow out of this marshy upland basin, which is a popular feeding ground for dinosaurs and swarms of biting insects. Tall plateaus and walls of dense foliage enclose the marsh.
The basin is named after the aldani, a race of lobsterfolk. Many Chultans recall childhood fables about the eerie lobsterfolk that lived in the rivers and lakes of their homeland. No reliable witnesses have reported an encounter with aldani in decades, so most Chultans believe the aldani perished.
You gear something ahead. It's the rushing of the river Soshenstar, you realize, but there is something else, somwthing moving through the leaves, barely discernable over the rapid waters, but you are certain of it. It's coming toward you quickly, crashing through the foliage, running toward you.
Through the riot of leaves and the river mist, you catch a glimpse of her, desperately running from the river, terror written on her face:
A female half-orc, wearing a priestly tabard denoting her membership in the Order of the Gauntlet. She wears a chain shirt bearing the symbol of Torm, a raised white Gauntlet. Her flail does little to aid her retreat theough the dense undergrowth of the Chultan jungle.
At that very moment, she trips and falls to tje ground, scream8ng as she hits the mud.
"Torm's hand! What providence." The woman says as she climbs to her feet, panic fading. Still quite shaken, she relates that her cs oe was capsized by a giant snapping turtle. She found herself ashore, but separated from the rest of her party by the raging river. While they were dealing with the angry terrapin, something came for her from the jungle. She readied her weapon, but before it emerged, a ghoul leapt feom behind her, attacking. "Realizing I was outnumbered and tbe rest of the crew occupied, I had to retreat." She concludes. She looks over her shoulder and left and right to make sure she isn't still being pursued by undead.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
<despite total cover...> Sparhawk gets the vague sense there are some undead in tbe jungle between here and the river, not far off.
"I think so," she says as she gets to her feet with a groan. But we should hurry, that group were no band of warriors, just a scout and some hired hands; they won't last long." She speaks confidently and with authority. Without awaiting your reply, she turns and heads back the way she came, no longer hopelessly outnumbered, she keeps I to tje fray, her flail held above her head, ready to strike, raised aloft like a torch to illuminate the dark jungle, infested with undead, ready to revisit the brutality of this place back onto itself ten-fold. Only now do you notice the wisps of some that eme ate from the holes about the circumference of the censer hanging at the end of the weapon's chain.
<I'm just going to assume you follow her. It's like 100ft>
Through the dense foliage you hear her as she struggles with several ghouls. You follow the sound theough the jungle. When you see her, she is surrounded by 11 undead, her back to the river beyond. She swings the flail in a great arc striking several creatures at once, knocking down 2 among them. As she finishes the maneuver snd readies her weapon to deliver the course de grace to one of the fallen ghouls, back arched, flail raised overhead, both hands gripping the hilt, a ghoul erupts from the surface of the churning river, grabbing her with both hands and pulling her in with him.
<Forego initiative: they're all surprised, PCs are up. no map, jut TotM>
<should have mentioned, @Brian_Avery's new PC is part of the crew that got capsized. you'll meet him in a moment. For now it's Cha!jil, Sparhawk and Tess.>
With the reflexes of a man who has seen many battles, the captain runs after the woman and then regurgitates his lunch.
Seeing the woman being pulled under, he mutters a few words, disappears, (teleporting with Misty Step)) and reappears at the location of woman and ghoul. (If this is possible) he grabs her in an effort to save her (pull her from the ghouls grasp (he also extends his aura of protection (10 feet) on all non undead in range, including the woman (+3 to all saves)
Cha!jil tried to distract the undead onshore from Sparhawk as she came roaring out of the foliage brandishing her emblem of the Lord of the Deep Jungle above her head.
<You're all up, there's one ghoul. It's unlikely to outlast 3PCs this round.
I didn't give her a save to getting grabbed, especially since the one who grabbed her was turned, releasing her.
The con save probably should get the +3, so she's not paralyzed. It's aura of protection?
I think its more interesting if she is, but I leave it to you. She is standing in the shallow water of the river bank, fighting the last ghoul on land. If she is 10ft from you, you're in melee range of this particular ghoul at the start of your turn. If you are, she isn't paralyzed.>
You can see now that the undead crowd has dispersed, there are bodies laying on the far side of the river and some pieces of debris that used to be a canoe.
Recovering his composure after throwing up, Sparhawk draws his greatsword, looking at the undead he says, "Let me introduce you to my sword, I call her, Retribution."
He swings on the ghoul mercilessly, 12 plus precision attack: 5 (17 to hit): damage 18 slashing
<since it's still not resolved, i arbitrarily ruke she's paralyzed for the next minute, slightly longer than the duration of the turning.>
The half-orc woman collapses into the shallow water. There is some movement among the rubble on the far side of the river. Could there be survivors on the opposite bank?

Sparhawk calls to her and begins moving forward, watchful of the enemy behind, or the trap she may be a part of.

"We are here to help, Priestess!"

"We can assist you and get you back to your crew. Are you injured?"
Sparhawk reaches out his will, expanding his awareness as he uses Divine Sense, both on the woman and beyond her.

All but one ghoul is turned. The mass of creatures spreading out I to the jungle and into the river, just to be swept away.
Undeterred, the remaining ghoul slashes at the female half orc. 15 for 7 slashing
A lucky shot, the ghoul manages to just avoid her flail, scratching her face with its claws as she swings at him 5 for 6 bludgeoning
(Pending success on DC10 Con save 12)
The flail flies from her hand as the half orc is paralyzed.
What do you do?
(Not sure if we are on initiative: Did Sparhawk grab her, can he attack the Ghoul or roll a strength check? and give her +3 on her saves per post 269)
