Skye blinks at Kylaski, skewering him with a sharp look. “Yeah, we defended ourselves against violent attack with extreme resistance to the idea of our own murder, unprovoked by the rake. It was textbook self defense.
“That’s scoop one, by the way. Our leader’s name is Damros — that’s scoop two, by the way. The rest of us prefer some anonymity, but he’s our public face.”
He blinks a few times in shock. "You know what. I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that. If I publish that you will be under investigation. And self defence won't help much as you do not fit his victimology. But I might publish a story about the murderer being murdered. I'll have to replace you with a lone vigilante so the law doesn't remove you as a helpful source of information for me."
Sky nods in agreement. It seems fair, and more generous than she would’ve expected. Of course, no one ever made it in any business by keeping their nose clean.
[I’m happy with whatever. Kept thinking of putting out a post of what Xaul was up to in the meantime like Damros, but never came to it. Savra only wanted extra details from the papers on The Black Viper, not for us to go find and catch her ourselves, so guess our next move is reporting back to her at the Temple and seeing where we go from there!]
You go and report back what you found out, somehow resisting (for now at least) investigating further to try and take matters into your own hands. Savra is happy to hear the report
"Unfortunately I can't offer you a monetary reward for this job, but I also can't let you go unrewarded. I have contacts who are able to commune with the spirits of the victims. I can probably get you two castings of the spell, has to be separate victims though. 5 questions each. If you let me know your questions and if there is a specific victim in mind for them, we might be able to find out more for you."
Xaul thanks Savra for the opportunity to speak with a few of the victims, and also asks if she knows any of the victim’s names, backstories and further details to help the party with their decision, since they’re not currently filled in on who they are. He then privately says to the party ‘Since our only reward for this job is us being given a conference with some of the victims, I feel we should look to taking on this job further just so we can make something out of it, as there’s nothing we could ask them other than questions about The Black Viper that would lead us towards a profit. I know we’ve got a lot on our plate already after the incident, but this could be an opportunity to make some cash, get back into action after being out of the spell-slinging game for a while, and almost take our minds of other things, in a weird kind of way.’ If the party’s happy to chase this quest too, he’ll ask Savra if they can take the investigation off their hands, just so they can make the most ofthe questions they ask, silently hoping the party’s efforts and eagerness to help might bring a proper reward with it once the job is done.
Skye nods. “Makes sense to me. But I don’t know these victims at all. Get the sense that if there’s only five questions, that’s going to be something of a limit for the magic. I’m assuming we can’t ask them just what went on in, so broad and open like.”

Kylaski announces proudly with a smile, "That's because we killed the elf killer."

After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)

Kylaski looks a little miffed that they (and she) won't be getting credit, but she remains quiet.
What is the plan next? (or if those who didn't go out want to do anything, feel free to jump in from the tavern)

Kylaski will let Sehaethas take care of the reporting. That's not as interesting...
