Kirinar joins the dwarf in scouting the area, looking for potential bottlenecks and ambush areas. Of course, with lizardfolk, he was pretty sure they could travel in places he and his companions wouldn't, but it was worth the look! If nothing else, he could find an scape route for his group...
After crossing the bridge to the area outside of the buildings the two fighters find swampy marsh land with spots of trees and under growth. They don't see any obvious ways the lizardfolk would approach. They could come from multiple directions.
"This won't work. Lizardfolk can swim better than we can, so they may not need to come in the front door or even use the bridges like we did. Maybe we need to get everyone in one place and try to defend that. Maybe the kobolds can rig some traps in the other buildings and bridges just to slow any attack down and give us a heads' up..." the fighter says to Ransyl as they return from their ineffective scouting trip.
“That sounds wise,” Ransyl turns to Yuty, “Would you and some of your guard be able to set up some traps and alarms by the entrance? We need to know when they’ arrived. Also, we could use archers at strategic shots with warning bells.”
"I will see what we can do, but usually it takes longer to set these traps up than just an hour. We may not have enough time. We either fall back behind the barricade behind us or meet them outside. There are no places to put archers above. And we are sorely weakened at this time."
With that said Yuty leaves heading back into the temple.
"I think the center temple (between 4 and 13)will probably be the best defended. Single entrance. Surrounded by water and other buildings. If all of the surviving kobolds can fit in the back temple area where we found the dragon, we can control the smaller entrance area and force the lizardmen to attack a few at a time. The downside is that we can't sustain that position for an extended period, like a siege. The building where the survivors are in now (south of 5)is another possibility, but there are two entrances and a big open space inside. Yuti, what do you think? This has been your home for longer than us." Kirinar says, following the kobold back.
"We have always used the entrance to repel trouble. The barricade and it's trap allows us to funnel the enemy into this corridor. From the side rooms we can launch arrows with relative safety and retreat deeper into the temple if needed. The rest is too open."
"Get behind the barricade - we'll thin them out with arrows and then use the barricade to slow an assault!" Kirinar hooks his morningstar to his belt, pulls the crossbow out and loads it, then waits for the enemy to come through. "Someone should probably try to talk the lizardfolk out of attacking when they come in...My lady Faen, will you speak to them? They may be more willing to listen to you than me...And don't forget the treasure as a peace offering."
Ransyl makes his way around the barricade and walks half way up the hall, spear in hand. With every clanging step there is a counter beat of the spear hitting the floor.
”Greetings, my name is Ransyl Fireforge, and my companions and I have been hired by the people of Mire’s Edge to negotiate peace between these three tribes.
We believe there can be peace between your communities, and the Mire’s Edge people and Kobolds do as well. This peace will be founded on safe passage by all. Once this is established, trade can begin again between your communities.

"Then this is where we will make our stand!" declares the fighter.

Yuty looks happy that you will stay and fight.
"I will find some warriors to help."
She then turns and disappears into the keep.
A few minutes later a small kobold comes scampering in from behind the barricade.
"Yuty is finding help. She told me to scout outside to try and warn of the coming threat. "
He then heads out the gate. But it is only a few minutes later that the creature comes running in. Fear is in its eyes.
"They are here! Several lizardfolk are coming! I'll find Yuty."
You get no chance to speak to the kobold before it rushes past you and behind the barricade. A moment later the warning gong starts ringing.
Keyleth rushes around behind the arrow slits that target the area in front of the barricade.

“Oh...ok,” Faen looks up towards the ceiling with a curious gaze.
OoC: How high up is the ceiling?
Ransyl readies a spear and a dagger for a first attack against the coming foe.
The ceiling is about 15 feet in height in room 2.
Let me know where everyone is on the map

“I can certainly try,” Faen says, looking unsure.
Ransyl makes his way behind the barricade as well.
OoC: Positioning looks good on my end.

A few minutes later steps can be heard on the planks of the bridge. A single lizardman stands in the gate.
"Kobolds! Send out the dragon!" it yells
Behind the loan lizardman you can see other's standing further back, but you cannot tell their numbers.
Ransyl makes his way around the barricade and walks half way up the hall, spear in hand. With every clanging step there is a counter beat of the spear hitting the floor.

What say you to this treaty?”
The lizardman looks at the dwarf that steps out from behind the barricade.
"We do not seek peace with the kobolds. We are here for the dragon. " it sneers.
