"I'm sorry, my dear children. I don't have all the answers. I know that there are beings who steal from those without tickets, and I've never heard of anyone retrieving their lost things. Nobody here has any control over these beings and some of us can't even see them. My best guess is that your friend Chandler was marked as one of the things to be stolen and once the creature had permission from whoever controls it, he was taken. I wish I could tell you more, but I just don't have the knowledge to tell." Her ears fold down as she tells you this and her head slumps as if she is genuinely saddened by the truly lost child.
"As far as the dandelions are concerned, if you can't tell by looking at them, they have magical properties. All of the carnival employees know these dandelions and are instructed to accept them in leu of a ticket punch. All you have to do is blow on it and you'll be allowed to participate in that game or activity. But these dandelions tufts don't just blow away after one gust. You can play many games just on one dandelion, but eventually the tufts will give in and float away. When that happens, you are still protected by the dandelions magic, you just won't be able to play anymore games. If you children will just wait for me in this corner of the carnival, I will talk to Candlefoot about getting you in to see your friend Juniper. While you are there, I can go talk with Mister Witch and Mister Light about the situation. Hurley and Burley are nice boys, but they are not the most articulate bugbears. Does that sound like a good plan, considering the circumstances?"
[When using a dandelion to take part in an attraction, roll 1d8. When you roll a number that you have already rolled the dandelion tufts drift away. So, at the very least you'd be able to take part in 2 activities. If you roll really well, you'll be able to participate in 8.]
Chaselooks at Dirla as she explains the situation, then glances at Scratch, who is clearly disappointed by her responses. The Tabaxi girl wants to find Chandler too, but what if they get lost while searching for him? What if they become separated from their friends? Torn between helping her brother and all these worries, she turns to Scratch and holds one of his paws gently. "Sure. But first, we speak to Candlefoot and the carnival owners, okay? They might know how to help us find him, and we need all the help we can get."She looks at Illuwen, Isy, and Lex. "Will you help us?"Chase glances back at Scratch, squeezing his paw reassuringly. Even if the others chose not to join, she wanted him to know he could count on her.
Scratch doesn't like it, but what his twin is saying seems to make sense. He gives her a curt nod, then looks over out of the pen to see if the two owners are arriving yet.
Isy enthusiastically yells, "Yes, we need to help Chandler!" She thinks a moment, then says more reluctantly, "But the owners probably do know more about where he could be, so I guess we can wait." She really wants to help Chandler, but Chase is right about the owners knowing more. Adults always seem to.
Dirla looks at you children and says, "You do not have to take part in the activities if you do not wish. I just thought it would be a good way to pass the time seeing as how I am unsure how long it will take to find Mister Witch and Mister Light. They are always so busy and could be anywhere in the carnival. But I'll have a quick conversation with Candlefoot and let him know that you are officially guests of the carnival and no longer trespassing. As soon as I leave his caravan, I will go find the bosses and bring them back here. At that point I'm sure Candlefoot would not be opposed to you children playing with Juniper during his story hour."
The expression on her face deepens as she continues, "I know it's been difficult for you in the carnival so far, but those who actually work here are not bad people. I will do everything I can to help you children, you just have to trust that I would never hurt you. Maybe Star could tag along with you children while I'm looking for the bosses?"
Star's ears perk up as she gets an excited look on her face in approval.
Chase huffs. Why was everything so complicated? Even finding the bosses was difficult! Shouldn't they be in their office or something? Still, when Dirla mentions that her kitten will accompany them, Chase’s mismatched blue and golden eyes sparkle a little. She sighs and asks Scratch, Isy and the rest, "Candlefoot first, then Chandler?" They didn’t need to be with the clown for the whole story hour. Perhaps it would be enough to let Dirla speak on their behalf, then say hi to Candlefoot and Juniper, and then search for Chandler. Chase would definitely feel safer if they'd let another adult—other than Dirla and the not so aritcul... (whatever that was supposed to mean) bugbears — know they weren’t trespassers anymore.
Lex looked around at the kitten with the strange wings. “Butterfly-kitten…awesome.” He was excited about the idea of playing the carnival games they had seen, but worried about Chandler as well. He thought about it, “Sounds good to me, Chase. I also wouldn’t mind seeing a couple of those games if we have to wait for the owners to come back.”
"Wonderful! You children wait here while I go speak with Candlefoot. When I'm done there I will search for Mister Witch and Mister Light and bring them right back here. Explore if you wish, I will return shortly. Star, you be a good little kitten for these nice children and mommy will bring you back a tasty treat." Dirla walks around to the rear of Candlefoot's caravan and leaves you to your own devices.
Illuwenlooks over at the Wheel of Magic. "We could probably play that game before Mister Witch and Mister Light get here, couldn't we Lex?" He's worried about missing his chance to talk with the owners, but the games all look so fun it's hard to stay away.
Lex says, “Yeah, let’s go take a look at the Wheel of Magic while we wait.” Lex walks over with Illuwen to look at the game, curious how the other children were learning spells.
When the others mention the Wheel of Magic, Chase's eyes sparkle once again. Oh, she would love to try that too! Her hand flies to the pocket where she's kept the dandelion that will allow her to do so, but she pauses mid-movement. Glancing at her pink twin, she lets out a quiet sigh, pushing aside her own excitement. With a soft smile, she asks, "Come on, let's go ask about Chandler around these stalls until Dirla returns."
As Lexand Illuwenapproach the stall, they hear the man running the game shout out to the crowd, "Roll up, roll up, and spin the wheel of magic! Your journey to the strange and arcane starts right here!"
Lexis too eager and jumps at the chance, "Oh, I see we have a special guest!" As Lexblows on his dandelion the tufts all remain in place as if rooted to the stem by magic. "Alrighty, my boy! That'll do for a spin. Now let me explain how this works." He gestures to the magic wheel in front of you and says, "This here magic wheel is full of all kinds of different spells, and whatever space you land on is yours for the next hour. Now as the wheel spins you wait and watch, and at just the right time you pull that there lever to stop the wheel. You can pull the lever randomly and just take what you get, or you can try to land on a specific space. Make sense?"
The wheel before you is divided into 8 equal sized sections and do not have spells listed on them, but schools of magic. The sections are labeled as follows: Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Evocation, Illusion, Transmutation, and Necromancy.
He looks over at Illuwen and says, "If you would like to give it a go, I'll need you to give that dandelion of yours a good gust."
Isy is torn between asking for Chandler and the games. The games looks so fun, but if she was lost she would want people looking for her. She eventually starts to head toward Lex and Illuwen, deciding she can ask while playing games just as much as when not playing. Suddenly she sees the rhyme game out of the corner of her eye. She looks closer at it, then back at the wheel of magic several times, before deciding she doesn't really want to play with random magic and heading over to the Widdershin's rhymes.
Scratch follows behind Chase, lagging behind to stop a couple of people and describe Chandler in a very non-specific kind of way. Looking around for another person to ask after learning nothing, Scratch notices Isy running off by herself. He quickly catches up to her. "Hey, where are you going?" After she indicates that she'd rather hear rhymes than spin for magic, he looks briefly over at the others — specifically his twin — then accompanies Isy, deciding to keep any eye on her. "OK, I'll go with you," he says. "We don't want to lose you, too." Scratch lets Isy do the talking, but when asked if he is also playing, he hesitantly agrees.
Chase is left mouth agape when she sees Scratch and Isy going for the rhyme thingy. Okay! If this was play and search, then play and search she will. The Tabaxi spins on her wheels, runs towards Lex and Illuwen and when it is her turn to choose a magic school she asks the Witchlight Hand, "Which magic is used to locate missing people? Is it Divination? Then I want that one, please!". Wouldn't it be great if she was awarded a spell that could help search for Chandler?
As Lexsteps up to the lever, trying to decide whether to just pull the lever and take what he gets or go for something specific, the Witchlight Hand running this attraction responds to Chase's question, "Well... I mean, yes. Divination magic can help you find people, but unfortunately that magic is just too powerful to store within this wheel. The Divination section will give you a spell called Guidance. You can choose to touch someone and give them a little boost in their abilities. But once that person uses the power you transfer to them it dissapears and you would have to do it again."
When Isyand Scratch approach the Widdershins Rhymes booth, they hear the Hand call out, "If you rhyme from time to time, then step right up and get in line! Prizes wait for every rhymer, whether youngster or old timer! If we have any special guests, don't worry I will not jest. Just give your flowers a blow, and hope they do not go!" This seems to you like a game where only one person wins each time. Do you want to play against your friend, or go with a different group and maybe both of you can win?

Isy is still watching from farther away. "Why isn't Chandler here? I thought you were supposed to keep track of the kids here!"
