"Let us inquire, Lord Neldak" Etriel Darastrix concedes. "I believe we bought the most effective means when we set out to recover the dwarves' cargo from the goblins. At that time, we had to note that dog sleds did not confer an advantage, in terms of speed, over snowshoes - which we did in fact purchase. But asking won't hurt anyone".
I'm going to need a survival check (with advantage) from someone to keep on route to where you are going.
Also becuase this is pbp, I don't want to get too bogged down with random encounters or weather (or travelling in general) so I will be running this with reduced encounters, and not bother about weather unless it's in an encounter (the random table for encounters comes with instructions to roll a second die, and if it's greater or equal to the encounter die, the encounter is in a blizzard). Outside of this I'll handwave weather and just assume you are sensible in a blizzard. And it's always cold.
You head out, making good progress. After 3 and a half days (out of an estimated 5) you notice that there is a group of 4 golliaths walking towards you. They do not seem threatening, and in fact, the lead one waves as they spot you. They are about 120ft away from you, but due to the constant low light levels you didn't see them sooner.
Etriel Darastrix waves back and agrees: "Indeed, Lord Neldak! We might as well approach and have a word... each side could benefit from the other's travel experiences."
The foreign traveler then continues on toward the goliaths...
The golliaths see you heading towards them and slightly alter their path to be direct to you. They approach and once within shouting distance the front one calls out "Greetings fur wearers. What brings you so far away from your comfort? Are you seeking a challenge!"
"Every journey is a challenge in its own way" Etriel Darastrix smiles, giving a subtle but elegant courtesy bow. "So perhaps you're right, friends. I, Etriel Darastrix, speaker of Good Mead, along with my companions in travel, adventure, and life, are embarking on a journey (or challenge, as it were) that will lead us to explore a ship stranded in the ice. Do you know anything about it, honorable travelers? And please, tell us about yourselves too. What journey or challenge are you undertaking?"
Danon stands beside Etriel, with an easy smile on his face but a protective stance, crossing his arms behind his back and feet spread shoulder width apart. "A challenge? Tell us more..." He looks at them with confidence and a friendly attitude, but it is clear that he feels like he is guarding everyone in the party as well.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.

You do get the same information. Dogs need to rest so unless you have enough dogs to rotate them it's not worth it.
After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)
Etriel Darastrix is ready to continue the journey then!
Neldak is ready as well.

"Lead the way!" Cirim says to Etriel, "I have no doubt you'll get us there!"
[[ Lol! What a touching trust... after having already seen the roll! ]]

“Ready! Lead on Etriel!” Danon is happy as a clam as they head out, ready to be going wherever their path leads them.

Neldak will wave back. "A bit surprising to meet someone else out in these wastes, but they seem at least friendly." he says to the others.

"Yes, perhaps they some knowledge about our destination they can share."

Cirim gets a bit nervous at the mention of a challenge, but perhaps it is just some friendly competition.
