Dealuri is not a fan of the dark or of being hit - even gently - by Vakas. She yells, "You think I like being scared of the dark?!?! I thought I was strong, yet this unknown feat has grabbed hold of me to make me weak. Hit me again and I will put this torch up your nose to use your empty skull for a lantern." The sane side of her recognized that yelling at this time was unlikely to help them but the ward is stronger than her rationality. Hands shaking, she relights the torch in her hand if it was extinguished at any point.
(OOC - normally PvP violence is not allowed but I have no problem with this sort of action.)
OOC: I agree this is an appropriate use of PvP:) also Thanadol the arcana check would only work for yourself and indeed the DC for checks was 15... and...
As Vakas blesses each of you with a knuckle sandwich you take the 1 damage (unless you resist) and are snapped out of your cursed condition.
Rachus there has been a lot of noise and a lot of light... roll a d20 for me please
...and Vakas please indicate which door you have just unlocked, left or right? Which ever one it is, you are free to enter and explore its interior.
Thanadol (with a 17) you do indeed obfuscate the noise coming from the party . You are not sure of whether it is enough distract the denizens of this place from your presence but the gust spell certainly has an effect. (and will reduce the chances of Rachus' roll being a dangerous one).
1 hp of medicinal damage sends the little squirrel druid end over end across the passageway floor. But that's okay. He's a squirrel. The day he can't enjoy a good tumble is the day to turn him into a pair of slippers.
"Hey!" he sends. "Can we lose the lights?"
He douses any lit torches within 30'.
Then skitters back to Vakas' side, refreshes the spell on his club, and gives him a little furry thumbs-up.
“Hey, hey, hey, easy, I don’t need any skull.. torchlight. Sorry.” Vakas turns back to the right sided door, holds his index finger up to his mouth in a “Shhhh” manner, and slowly opens the door, entering inside. Prior to going he looks for any hinges, if they are on this side of the door - he would dab a little oil onto them, but otherwise he goes in, holding his hand up for the others to wait as he sneaks in and turns to look, using his darkvision to look inside. He’s also looking for any traps as he enters, remembering that kobolds are sneaky little monsters that like to set traps for people. Or so they say.
Perception : 6
Unfortunately, all of the bright light has stunted his darkvision for a moment, it seems.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Also with darkvision, whatever Skritch can see (but only from the doorway - "Best we, er, leave the sneaking up to the experts, eh, Vakas!")? Perception 13+3 = 16
(With a 15) Despite the light show and the noise made by the party and partly thanks to the efforts made by Thanadol to confuse the sounds made you have in fact not drawn the denizens of this dungeon down on you heads in surprised fury.
Vakas with the aid of Thanadol you open the right hand door and peer inside. It a small room, filled with what appears to be the looming shadows of towering bookshelves, but you can make out little detail without entering. (With a 6) You see no obvious signs of traps.
Skritch you peer inside (with a 16) Within the narrow stone chamber, the scent of dust and old timber hangs thick in the still air. Towering bookcases line the walls, their wooden frames bowed with age.. Here and there, shelves have given way, collapsing under the weight of centuries, their contents spilled across the cold flagstone floor in disordered heaps; scrolls with curling edges, leather-bound tomes splayed open like broken wings. A pale webbing of cobwebs drapes from shelf to shelf, soft and silent as funeral veils, untouched by breeze or hand.
Thanadol as the door is opened you see much the same as Skritch and Vakas with the addition (due to Detect Magic) of the soft glow of power coming from several of the tomes and scrolls. It is difficult to discern more without closer inspection.
It is nice to see stuff, books and whatnot, Skritch thinks. But I will leave actual exploring to the rogue.
Plus, Skritch sees Thanadol's eyebrows go up a little. Like he's seen things he most likely likes seeing. I'll leave that to the wizkid. He no doubt knows, the squirrel tells himself, what he's doing, too. Presumably.
Instead, Skritch calls Sunhill over and gives him a scratch behind the ears, keeping watch up and down the corridor while the others loot the room.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thanadol you step into the room (with a 17) you note that most of the books and scrolls are covered with a thin gossamer of spider webs along which tiny black spiders scurry back and forth. You are not certain whether this poses any sort of real threat. Make a nature check DC12. (On a failure you dismiss them as harmless insects and take 1 poison damage from their bites as you retrieve the items, on a success you recognise the danger and can attempt to clear them away to get to your prizes).
There are four items of interest, all covered as described. (You need only make the above check once). The items are as follows:
2 scrolls of Healing Word, 1 scroll of Aid and a rather ragged old journal bound in soft, worn velvet. It appears to be stained and rather scorched. The title on the front read "The journal of Osimund Featherfleck"
"Ahh, thanks, mate, I needed that." Dealuri feels like her old self, minus a bump on the head. She follows the others into the room. "Is this a library? I have heard of rooms filled with books being called that. I have never seen one. I mean, I have never seen a library before. I have seen books before. They are great for blocking open doors." She is not a scholar, so the room has little of interest to her. Instead, she scans the room for threats, looking particularly in the corners and at the ceiling since Skritch is focusing on the lower-level stuff, as is appropriate for a companion of his stature.
OOC: Posting on behalf of Thanadol as he is having technical issues and can not access the thread at the moment. FYI he asked "how to you run spell scrolls? Can I use a spell scroll that isn't on my spell list?" and the answer is in this game anyone with magic ability can use spell scrolls.

Thanadol will rush to the books examining them closely. He will gaze in awe at the scrolls and books (stowing them if he can use them otherwize he calls Skritch and Rachus in a disappointed voice) Upon discovery of the journal he gets excited and sits down to read it for the duration of the characters stay in the room. When he leaves he stows the journal.
Dealuri you see no signs of danger other than the spiders that wounded the party wizard.
Thanadol you pocket the scrolls and move outside where you sit yourself down to study the book you have taken. It is filled with the scrawled notes of an academic of the arcane and given time you are sure you could learn a great deal from its contents. This Osimund Featherfleck was an interesting fellow indeed.
The rest of the party may search the room further, take more books from the shelves, though these will be of a mundane nature, or head back outside.
The opposite door remains locked...
Or you may wish to continue along the main tunnel...
Rachus will enter the darkened room, and he examines the books splayed out like a broken wing and the nearby scrolls. A perusal of titles to get a sense of the original person who carved out a dwelling in a cave. Was it a hermit that built this place or a spellcaster of some kind. Perhaps an adventurer tired of seeing peoplethinks Rachus to himself.
He gestures that he is fine with Thanadol keeping the items of interest. A moment passes and curiosity nibbles at his mind, so urged on he peers at the journal being read by Thanadol to see what was penned here so long ago.
Rachus you examine the contents of this strange little library and see that it is an eclectic mix of fact and fiction. You scan the titles and see;
The Ninth Tongue of Flame: A Primer in Pyromantic Invocation, The Pickled Philosopher’s Almanac, Murder, Mead, and Moonlight: Tales from the Singing Axebear Tavern, Rites of Binding and Unbinding (3rd Edition, Slightly Less Cursed), The Celestial Chart of Forgotten Constellations, Cooking with Kobolds: A Cultural and Culinary Compendium, Memoirs of a Mirror Golem, The Song that Cannot Be Unheard; musical manuscript bound in stretched skin, with notation in blood-red ink, Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy for the Mildly Curious, Heretical Hymns of the Hollow Saints, 101 Ways to Displease a Demon (and Survive It)... the list goes on.
If you wish to search for anything specific make an investigation roll.
If you wish to take a book let me know how you avoid the 1d4 damage from the pesky spider bites.
Rachus will create puffs of wind and a shower of sparks to urge them to scatter. If they do scatter, he will use his dagger to clear away the spiderwebs.
(OOC: Does this time count as a Short Rest? Asking in case Thanadol can use his HD to recover some HP? If not, I've got 4 more Goodberries I can offer the squishywiz.)
"Thanadol, Rachus, Vakas, v happy to have you, er, divvy up the scrolls of Heaing Word. Ne'er hurts, I'd imagine, to have options when it comes to picking up a fallen comrade... especially if it's, er, me!"
Skritch Messages Rachus, "Er, good bard, if you see any works on the shadow realms, or of Yggdrasill, the World Tree, I'd be most grateful... While I'm finding this world absolutely thrilling - and I am! - I'd also love to know how to get back home one, er, day..."
Vakas steps inside and he covers his nose, he stifles a little sneeze. As he turns to look, books and scrolls, all around. And spiders. Webs. “Eh, not my bag, man. I think I’ll head back out and check on that other door. Skritch, you did a great job before, will you help me with that one as well? When I tell you to, hold the pick nice and steady, I’ll click the tumblers.” He steps back outside, bends down and uses his thieves tools again on the leftward door.
Sleight of hand with help : 7. “Ah rats! This one is harder! Struggling with it… we might have to try another way…”.
Seeing the challenges with the lock, Dealuri suggests, "A little bit of oil and a little bit of flame could do the trick. Or I could chop at it with my war pick."

"Yuppers," says Skritch. Hmm, he thinks when it doesn't work, maybe I wasn't holding it steady enough...
Skritch examines the other doorway and its frame to see if there's enough of a gap anywhere around it such that, for example, say a... snake might be able to slither through and have a look around (given their blindsight)?
