"For Woden's sake. It's a door. It's just a door. I, er, I know we have all just met. And I apologise if I am being forward. But I fear if we spend this much time equivocating and speculating, we'll get so bogged down we fail to achieve anything heroic.
"To explain, and before you accuse me of it, I do not have ADHD. Squirrels do not have ADHD.
"Squirrels are ADHD."
Skritch picks an area of the door where he won't hit anyone and starts Fire bolting it.
Rachus holds off on reading his newfound book just yet as his companions are focused on the door. He considered lending a hand but looking at his thin arms he does not think he would be much help but then he is surprised by the Scritch frantic fire bolting. "I hope whatever is in that chest is worth it"
Skritch you raise a tiny hand pointing toward the door, arcane fire coiling around your fingers like hungry serpents. With a sharp incantation, you unleash a barrage of firebolts at the stubborn old door. Each blast thunders through the narrow corridor, a staccato rhythm of flame and fury. The tunnel flickers madly with every impact, shadows leaping and writhing across the damp stone walls. The scent of scorched wood and sulfur thickens in the air.
With a final, resounding crack, the door gives way, its charred remains bursting inward in a rain of glowing splinters. Smoke clings to the air like a living thing as the ruined threshold gapes wide, revealing the chamber beyond… and within it, nestled in the gloom, the sturdy chest sits waiting, untouched and full of promise.
But the silence that follows does not last.
From behind you, back toward the entrance, rises a sudden cacophony—high-pitched voices barking in a shrill, guttural tongue. The unmistakable sound of claws on stone, weapons clattering, and the furious screech of approaching kobolds.
A string of curses is barely held back as Rachus hears the sound of Kobolds "We need a plan folks. We can all try to hide until the kobolds pass as I rather not be swarmed to death by them. What do you all think we should do?"
"I'm a bit large to hide. Besides, when playing hide and seek, I always get tricked by the seeker. All they have to do is say 'Dinner is ready' and out I come from my hiding place. If the kobolds ever talked to anyone in my old village, they would know that trick. Besides, I feel the need to stretch."
(OOC: Depending on the DM's answer about the sources of the noise and type of corridor, Dealuri will pull out her war pick or her longbow for fighting.)
“Quick, everyone, come into the room with the books! Get in there and close the door, but gently!” Vakas opens his pack and starts to spread out ball bearings all over the ground, right in front of the door that has been burned open, covering a 10 foot square of the floor. When he’s finished, he ducks into the other door closing it gently, pressing his ear to the door. He grips his short sword and dagger, waiting. With a soft whisper, he says to everyone, “We’ll wait until they see the chest and run for it, tripping on the ball bearings. When we hear them fall, we are going to rush out of this door and attack. Okay?”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
In the room, still on Mastiff-back, Skritch soothes Sunhill as best he can, encouraging him to be as silent as a house (which are generally even more quiet than mouses).
He refreshes his club's Cantrip since each casting only lasts a minute, then readies himself to cast Entangle on any 'kays' (that's what he expects the cool kids are calling kobolds these days) that the ball bearings don't befuddle.
He sends to the gang, "They’re coming, I believe, from the cave entrance. I imagine it's just a routine patrol returning and discovered the fracas out front...
"Hopefully not too numerous in number!"
Skritch is aware that normal convention is to cross one's fingers to emphasise a statement like that. But squirrels can't cross their fingers, so instead he just crosses his eyes.
OOC: Skritch the tunnel you are in is around 10 ft wide. The sounds are only coming from the direction of the entrance. It is difficult to tell how many of the enemy approach but I would say they fall into your "quite a few" category.
You all gather in the library (I'll take the liberty of saying that you avoid further spider bites through a creative use of cantrips) and once in place you close the door behind you. You all hide just in time as the kobold arrive. Vakas your instincts were correct as they race toward the smoking ruin of the other door and bedlam as they start to trip on the ball bearings.
Hearing that the plan seems to have worked you all burst from the door weapons in hand. (We will do this one inspiration free to keep the action flowing).
As we hear them arriving, still in the library, Sktitch fires up his Shillelagh cantrip one more time. When we spring our door open he will lay down Entangle, centred about 5' inside the other doorway. DC13 Str for any in the 20' cube to avoid being restrained.
Then, side by side with his comrades, Skritch will charge in on Sunhill's saddle, swinging his Shillelagh attacks with the Booming Blade cantrip (for a d8 if damage, if hit, if they try to move). All the while, high-pitched out-loud squirrel screaming.
Here's Skritch's first attack (from the campaign log, sigh...):
Attack 4+5=9 // Dam (lol, sure, damage...) 6+3=9.
If... that hit, then Sunhill and I will retreat 5' so they'll have to come after us to get us for the extra BB damage, risking the opp attack.
EDIT: Just adding a second attack roll in case the one I attacked was Prone or Restrained: Attack 18+5=23
If that counts, then Skritch's squirrelscream, gets even more feral, rising beyond the range of normal hearing!
Dealuri is energized by Skritch's battle screech and comes out swinging her war pick with gusto (attack 12, damage 7, sap). She positions herself nearest the kobolds to try to protect her companions.
Thanadol making sure not to put himself in the front line. Waits for the maximum number of kobolds to be in range of Burning Hands. Once as many as possible come within range he casts it dex save: 13, damage: 12 on fail, half on success.
OOC: With my chosen magical discipline I can avoid hitting two companions with this spell even if they are in the area. So will maneuver accordingly.
Vakas opens the door and spins around the corner, picking the closest prone kobold he can, attacking with his short sword, and then with the dagger, changing targets if one goes lifeless.
Action : 21 to hit, for 8 points of piercing damage, and it additional shocks the kobold for 4 points of electrical damage!
Additional attack with Dagger, due to Nick mastery : 16to hit, for 5points of piercing damage, and 1point of sneak attack damage.
Off hand dagger attack : 25 to hit, for 3 points of piercing damage.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Sktitch you cast your entangle spell and gnarled roots burst from the floors and walls ensnaring several of the kobold as they turn to meet your charge. You see three or four of them sprawled on the floor, tripped by the ball bearings and you slam your Shillelagh down on the nearest kobold. Your weapon impacts with a wet crunch and the creature snarls in pain. It tries to scramble up to pursue you and suddenly explodes into pink mist as your thunderous spell takes effect.
Dealuri you charge into the fray positioning yourself between you companions and the raging kobolds. Your war pick skewer one of them in the forehead bringing it crashing down toward your feet dead. Two of the creatures attack you with their long wicked daggers (pack tactics) Attack: 16 Damage: 5 and Attack: 24 Damage: 5
Thanadol you step into the doorway and release your burning hands spell. At least four of the creatures are instantly immolated as your spell takes effect and several more are brought to the edge of death by the flesh hungry flames.
Rachus you lunge forward skewering one of these injured kobolds, ending its life before you slip away again into the shadows of the library.
Vakas you surge forward in a deadly dance, targeting the prone kobolds. They did not stand a chance! Your short sword plunges down into the chest of the first, the power from your ring discharging electric energy into its body. While the kobold still spasms on the ground you slice your dagger across its throat ending its life before flipping the weapon over to slam it into the forehead of another prone kobold to your left.
Only three kobolds remain, one badly singed and facing you Dealuri, one restrained against the far wall and so far miraculously uninjured and the last slightly charred and close enough to attack you Vakas Attack: 20 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. 3
Thanadol brushing his hands free of the ash from the goblins, retreats slightly sending a bolt of flame after the charred Kobold 18 to hit, 2 fire damage.

A string of curses is barely held back as Rachus hears the sound of Kobolds "We need a plan folks. We can all try to hide until the kobolds pass as I rather not be swarmed to death by them. What do you all think we should do?"
DM, questions:
How wide is the corridor?
Are the noises coming from one direction? Both?
Does it sound like a couple of kobolds (ie, meh, we can take em)?
Quite a few kobolds (ie, maybe we can take em)?
Or, soooooo many kobolds (ie, flee you fools!)?
Skritch sends, "I can use my last spell to lay down an Entangle on them, then we could pick them off as they wade through it..."
He hops aboard his trusty Mastiff.
"Or we could, you know, run for it. Although, I, er, I didn't exactly sign up to... to run away from fights..."
He sparks up his Shillelagh. Twirls it in one paw and pulls back on Sunhill's reins to rear up dramatically.
"Thoughts...?"

Rachus will move out and thrust his rapier at the closest prone kobold.
With Advantage
15 to hit 5 piercing damage.

Using goblin Nimble escape to use disengage action as a bonus action.
After the thrust of his blade Rachus will quickly step back in a zig zag pattern avoiding any strikes. He will move as far as 30ft can take him

Again retreating back on Brave Sunhill (as he will surely become known in legend and song) after the pathetic miss.
