This is no natural creature or even some kind of arcane monstrosity, that much Randa can be sure of.

The party is up! You are 30ft from the creature in a wagon. It is a straight shot to it at the mouth of the forest. The road is 10ft wide, then 5ft shoulders and 5ft wide ditches on either side, and steep hills that rise up about 8 or 10ft. Anyone with proficiency in Acrobatics can get out of the wagon for free but everyone else pays 10ft of movement to get out of the wagon. Go go go!
Morgan sleeps soundly through the night, arms and legs sprawled in every direction, his top hat tilted over his face to steal a few extra hours before dawn.
Morgan wakes up with Ylis's words in his ears and a smile on his lips.
---
As they near the sounds of battle, his usual smile fades into a frown. He studies the scene trying to understand motives: twelve people against a single creature, ugly or not, rubs him in the wrong way.
"Moon Weaver bless us as we enter conflict against evil, strengthen our arms so we might do unto them before they do unto us." She grips her spear and it becomes infused with the glowing vines of Moonglory (Shillelagh) "HIYAH!!!"
Then Ylis carefully makes her way down the wagon wheel.
She begins a charge but slows to a trot. She remembers fighting troglodytes with her friend and this one is the biggest troglodyte she has ever seen! "Aw stinky carrots!" She stops about 15 feet away and flicks her finger at the giant trog.

(Insight: 14)
This creature gives little away, but that grin was not that of relief, but excitement upon your arrival.
Morgan’s hand twitches toward the monster, eyes narrowing. Morgan readies Mind sliver.
The moment the creature shows hostility toward any member of the Fellowship, he casts the cantrip (flavor: the monster would see Morgan's green eyes flashing in his mind and hear 'bad move, big stinky toad').
OOC: Do I go now? I wasn’t sure if I should wait till Randa went, as they got a higher initiative than me. But it’s been almost a day, so I’ll just post now in case.
Sacha quickly jumps from the wagon and runs straight towards the beast. Although she spent 10 feet of movement getting out of the wagon, as a wood elf she is faster than most people and still had 25 feet of movement left. This brings her within 5 feet of the abyssal amphibian.
Sacha enters her battle trance (aka Rage), using her tree tattoo as a conduit to the natural world. Connecting to the World Tree as Old Redmoss taught her years ago, she can feel the toad through space and time. Through the Yggdrasil, she feels the pressure his heavy feet have on the roots below them, the toxic air he breathes into nearby plants, and the placement of pollen on his skin. Using this keen awareness of where he is, Sacha recklessly attacks the toad with her spear, the branches of the World Tree guiding her strike to where it’s most effective.
Attack: 23 Damage: 10
Sacha also has Savage Attacker, so here’s the second damage roll. Use whichever is higher.
6
If the attack hits, the Sap weapon mastery gives the toad disadvantage on its next attack roll. Reckless attack gives it advantage on attacks against me. Sacha is trying to goad it into focusing on her.
Can Sacha tell if any of the Kryn warriors are wounded or particularly weaker than the others?
Insight: 20
If there are any that are fairing worse than the rest, Sacha gives them 3 temporary hit points.
”Soldiers! Defensive formation! If any of you are weak or wounded, retreat to safety. Anyone with polearms or bows, attack the toad from a distance. No one else get close to him. We can handle him easy if we fight smart. Anyone that’s dumb will answer to the Raven Queen and I.”

DM: The party goes together. I just posted the individual rolls to show how I arrived at the average since most players here are new. I group you all together to make PBP fights go a bit faster and to prevent exactly what you were unsure about lol.
DM: Teeth, please roll damage/effects and list the DC for future reference when you are readying a spell. I am rolling them this time for brevity (it failed the Save) but next time, just do it when you make the post.
The creature watches as Sacha leaps from the wagon and bolts toward it, seemingly not expecting such speed. As it watches Sacha, a Starry Wisp collides with its head. It shakes its shoulders, as it has no neck, to clear the burning from its face. At this moment, Sacha’s spear lodges in its pelvis. It snarls, rage fueling it and causing a surge of funk to billow out of it.
Sacha noted that although shaken, none of the Kryn appear to be seriously harmed. They use these precious moments to regain their composure and raise shields to formation. The creature seems to have lost interest in them, taking much more interest in the elf that stabbed it. This triggers the Mind Sliver, which causes the thing’s lip to curl down in a slight frown.
Randa fires two arrows, the first of which buries itself into the monstrous toad’s shoulder, the other strikes one of the creature’s many thick spikes. The arrow splinters against the far more sturdy spike.
Enraged, the creature lunges for Sacha. The first misses, as Sacha’s spear does its work to hobble the toad-like creature. The second attack lands, biting into Sacha’s flesh. The claws themselves do not dig deep, but Sacha is immediately aware of a burning in the cuts, much like the scratch of a cat, but amplified by 100. (6 Slashing Damage reduced to 3 + 9 Poison Damage).
It attacks again, but Sacha is able to duck out of the way, her training having taken over and pulled her just out of range.
The soldiers push in from behind. They work in well-coordinated spear attacks, three stabbing together, then pulling away while three others stab together. It is effective, though the tough hide and spikes turn away most of the thrusts. Some find their mark however, and a sickly green blood works its way down the rows of spikes.
Ayo can still be heard shouting obscenities at the creature, doing her best to pull its attention and failing.
DM: Sacha, please make a Constitution Saving Throw, DC 16 or suffer the Poisoned Condition for starting your turn in such a foul cloud of death.
DM: Teeth, please roll damage/effects and list the DC for future reference when you are readying a spell. I am rolling them this time for brevity (it failed the Save) but next time, just do it when you make the post.
OOC: roger that. Is it the Fellowship's turn again?
Sacha stares into the toad’s eyes and grins, baring her teeth as if they were fangs. Sacha grunts softly as the takes a minor hit. She remembers the time when she fell from a branch and broker her arm as a child. When she was hit in the arm by a Dwendalian arrow during a border skirmish. When griffon tore up her back with beak and talons.
“Pathetic,” She growls at the toad, not knowing or caring if it can understand her.
Sacha recklessly stabs at the toad again and with the same fluid motion swings at it with the end of her spear.
Stab Attack: 21 Damage: 8
Savage Attacker: 9
Pope Strike Attack: 11 Damage: 7
Apply Sap if either attack hits.
Another Kryn warrior gains 5 temporary hit points.
