As Smiling Jack walks toward the eastern path he begins to see more and more bones along it, as he approaches the path the ghostly form of the bearded man appears above the mounds once more, this time visible to all, he gestures imploringly towards Smiling Jack as he approaches the path....
Caelan and Clotha draw back away, toward the northern path.
Above the sky begins to darken as the day draws on.....
Barn stares at the beckoning ghostly man and swallows, holding his ground for a moment even as Smiling Jack runs away, back to the group.
"I d-don't know what happened to you h-here, sir," the big man mumbles apologetically to the apparition. "We have to g-go now, b-but we'll be back."
Reaching out with his sense of the woods, he attempts to sense whether he detects undead (or celestials or fiends) nearby. (Divine Sense).
The presence of strong evil registers on your senses like a noxious odor, and powerful good rings like heavenly music in your ears. As an action, you can open your awareness to detect such forces. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet of you that is not behind total cover. You know the type (celestial, fiend, or undead) of any being whose presence you sense, but not its identity. Barn feels that the entire glade is soaked in negative energies, there are four major concentrations of undead....or perhaps just dead....enegy around him, one is the emanation in front of him ( tied to the largest mound), there are two others flitting around the glade seemingly randomly tied to the two smaller mounds and a raging vortex of undeath, sorrow and anger somewhere beneath the mere.
Strangely he also feels an almost holy or sacred emanation from within the larger mound which is tied by an ephemeral thread to something out of sight down the eastern path....

The big man takes careful note of which mound he senses the sacred aura from, and in which direction (eastern path) it appears to be linked to incorporeally. But as he does so, he is backing away, never taking his eyes from the ghost of the old man.

Moving with unaccustomed alacrity away from the barrows, Barn rejoins the others.
"This whole clearing is f-full of ghosts and sadness! I ah... s-sensed it. Including the old man and the kids. But the little p-pond there is the worst of all. So much d-death and evil. But there's a t-tiny thread of good leading east from the old man's b-barrow. The other two m-mounds are for the k-kids. I think the three of them m-might be trapped here s-somehow. His ghost talked in my h-head. Made m-me promise we would come b-back to help him. Or at least that I w-would. Between this and the old abandoned h-house back there, and the hag-cursed g-guy and his wife, there's a lot to d-do!"
Making note of where the eastern path is for when they come back, the big man sets off in the lead with Caelan, back towards town.
Smiling Jack states, "I will watch from the rear as you all lead form the front I assume Reg, Jack and Clotha will be in the middle of our walking order."

Barn nods his head, relieved, as Clotha and Caelan speak up about departing on the northern road.
"No critters h-have been here. N-none at all. Seems like there should have b-been, forest and all. Maybe b-better we just go."
Nevertheless, the big man steps up next to Smiling Jack so as to cover his friend from any unexpected ambush with the halberd's 10' reach.
