Fine. The iron guard gives Tony some hard looks as he walks past. One taps a sunny yellow sign that reads "Help keep our festival safe and clean!"

Tony waves them down, as if to say ‘Alright, alright, I got it,’ as he extinguishes the cigar and puts it back in the case.

"Probably wise," says a guard. "You woulda gotten disadvantage on rolls against guards and mothers o' young children if ya kept that up."

 (Flaming death is a large wooden archway covered with scorch marks and a flagstone path leading to a patch of bare earth. A little halfling with a wand and blue robes sits on a bench looking bored)

(There are currently two dwarves wrestling in the mud pit. They are battling fiercely, throwing one another and fighting back to their feet by turns)

Jean saw the dwarves mud wrestling and a look of disappointment appeared on her face. She instead went to the darts stall.

Amaruve and Jean seem pretty much in sync as their expectations are shattered. Amaruve trots along to the darts with the others.

(Man. Everyone is just champing at the bit for me to introduce some fantasy sexism. I'm not taking the bait; It's genuine wrestling! But if you guys are too scared to take on a muddy dwarf or two...)

Jean and Amaruve make their way to the darts booth. Behind a bright orange counter painted with blue trim stands an incredibly striking elven woman. She's nearly seven feet tall, and she appears to be eladrin. She wears a boiled leather cuirass over a white, billow-sleeved shirt, as well as a turquoise fang hanging from a simple cord around her neck (which matches the one in her left ear). Her hair is pale lavender and cropped short on the sides, and her head is partially covered by the super-cool goggles she has donned. 

In front of the eladrin is a row of three rifles made of wood, steel, and brass. They appear to be steam-powered, with a pressure dial mounted atop the barrel of the guns. Watching Jean approach, the tall elven woman smiles and says, "Evening, gorgeous. Care to try your hand?"

(GAME RULES:

It's 2GP per round to play. Roll a d20 plus your ranged attack modifier- you are NOT proficient with the steam powered dart gun. Your roll determines the number of balloons you hit, the higher the better. If you can think of a plausible way to cheat, then you can roll a stealth/deception/sleight of hand check against the boothkeeper's perception. Go ahead and roll a second ranged attack in case you're successful (for advantage). If you're caught, you get 1 warning before the iron guard bans you from all future games.)

Taking the gorgeous to mean himself, Tony winks at the Eladrin, “Flattery will get you anywhere, my dear.” He places two gold on the wood and grabs a gun. Taking aim, Tony smiles, “Watch and learn, chumps.” 8 balloons! 

Yep. Yeeeep.

The Eladrin is quiet for a moment, staring at the gently bouncing balloons that Tony avoided almost surgically with the dart gun. "Wow, that's a first," she finally says. Then she grins, "They say you only regret the chances you don't take, but... damn. Want to give it another go? Double or nothing for the grand prize!"

Jean snickered as she waited her turn, "Well, hello there." She purred at the Eladrin woman. She paid the fee and then took an experimental shot with the rifle, hitting 6 balloons.

The elf absently kicks the board with her boot and the burst balloons instantly re-inflate, mended. She leans over the counter and refills the dart clips of your rifles. "Careful there, Sweets. If you all keep putting gold in my purse and not winning any prizes I'll feel obliged to buy you a drink."

Jean chuckled. "Admittedly, I do better with a sword than these ranged thingies, but I don't give up after just one shot."

The eladrin suggests you try for a third. She introduces herself as Tæsn, and she encourages you to try for a third. (Just 2 more gp, if you don't mind...) You were so close that time!

 The goblins eye twitches. He breathes deeply, “Yeah. Let’s give it another go.” He looks to be boiling. One would not think that goblins could reach such a shade. Revenge: 17 

Jean snickered and tried again after taking a deep breath.

Amaruve cheers for Jean, bark bark! 

"Ooooooh, so close," says the elf to Tony, handing him a really neat pencil eraser. "Use the anger! Much better that time, both of you." She gestures to the wall of prizes beside her. "Hit twenty balloons, and you can take your pick of the prize wall. Plus..." She raises a medallion from behind the counter. It catches the torchlight with a glint of bronze, "I'll let you take this."

(If you want to keep trying until you win, roll 1d20 minus your modifiers. That total will be the number of additional attempts you require. Multiply that number by two for the GP it costs you!)
