OoC: There are some spells and abilities (presumably magic items, too) that allow you to prevent or reduce falling damage, like feather fall or the monk's slow fall ability (which you'll get at level 4). My reading is that that sentence is there to say that if you prevent the damage you also avoid the prone condition. I think you generally can climb down, if DM rules that a surface is climbable, to avoid damage with an athletics check. Unless you have a specific climbing speed you'd go down like it was difficult terrain (so, use 20 ft of movement to climb 10 ft).
OoC: Just waiting on CK's response, the climbing idea sounds good, and don't worry about the speed, I use Hidden Step as a bonus action, so I can dash there. 60 ft. would probably be enough, right?
OoC: 5e doesn't have a rule about acrobatics reducing falling damage (I think previous editions did), unless CK wants to house rule something. I believe the official rule is 1d6 damage per 10 ft.
Correct. I feel like a 10 foot fall could be mitigated by a catch.
Edit: Ah I see, I thought you were catching him at first. Yep that works!
No longer able to contain himself, Anton puts a hand on his flail and shouts at Yeemick, "So help me, if you drop him, what little brains you have will be going down there next, with or without your skull!"
OoC: If intimidation is called for can I roll using strength instead of charisma?
Ordrin's nostrils flair and he breathes deeply the heavy, rank air. The murmur of the water behind him fills his ears as the stalemate threatens to end. Then his brow furrows and his mouth twists up toward his nose. The hair of his head and the hair of his beard come together as he scrunches his face.
"Eh, furry one," his large lips poking out from the hairy mess, "you might want to translate that for the benefit of our stupid green friend up there. It would be a shame to have to climb all those stairs over a misunderstanding."

Yeemick, being dumber than he is brave, panics."Ok, Yeemick won't hurt man. Just give me coin and I leave now."
He holds his hands up in submission, forgetting the lack of ground underneath Sildar, who starts to fall.
As Yeemick realizes his mistake he tries to leap off the ledge and run.

Unfortunately for Yeemick, he's also as unlucky as he is dumb, and as he lands his ankle hits loose ground. You hear it snap and he falls prone taking 1 damage
Leoneiros is there to catch him, as soon as Slidar gets close to him in a fall.
OoC: Should I make any roll? I'm not sure, and even if I did, I don't know what roll that would be.
With his large size, he could use himself to ease the fall, but his innitial objective is to catch, while just standing below, and tumbling both to the ground, just to diminish the damage as a second plan.
As Sildar falls, Leoneiros grabs him in an attempt to cushion the blow. Sildar falls through Leoneiros' initial catch but Leo manages to get his arms underneath him just enough so that Sildar hits the ground with minimal impact

"Yes, we're fine." Leoneiros responds to Delta, and then places Sildar on the ground before staring at the goblin. "If you still value your own life, you better run, I'm okay keeping promises, but I have a pretty short temper."
Intimidation10 (Like I needed to scare the little thing even more, poor goblin.)

Rin gathers green, eldritch energy in his palm and locks eyes with Yeemik. If Yeemik does anything other than run away or if he says anything even vaguely threatening, Rin will unleash it.

OoC: did Sildar actually fall or just stumble a little?
Yeemick dropped him over the edge. So if/how much he falls depends on Leoneiros
