"Right, Miss Jinn. You know not a lot of folk actually come here for vacation. Due to the recent issues with smugglers, we've been forced to check out all newcomers as they come off the ships. Now place your equipment on that table over there, we'll examine it quickly and get you on your way."
The guard doesn't answer as they go about checking Dr. Jinn's equipment and (like the others) the guard asks Dr.jinn to show them her bicep, they check the spot next to the shoulder, and satisfied with whatever answer they get from that, return Jinn's items to her.
"Alright, two things before you step into the city, keep the weapons sheathed and no magic."
"Fireworks, you say? Been a long time since I saw saw a proper show." Fenchurch smiled. Indeed, it had been exactly one year, four months, and three days since he had seen a proper fireworks show. It had been a feasting day in Whitehill, and the academy was closed, except for the janitors. The work was long, but it led to a wonderful night watching the show from the head of school's empty office. However, watching it with his carnival friends would absolutely beat seeing it solo. The whole idea made Fenchurch warm inside, and a touch nostalgic. It also gave him the urge to enjoy the whole festival like a local.
"Say Molly, you wouldn't happen to know where one might pick up one of those lanterns, would you? I'd like to send a couple off for the troupe."
"Wrok?" Bug interjected to the strange new arrival at his side, however she quickly turned and continued her conversation at the guard-- rather than with him. The red one seemed... different. Even comparable to most Bug had seen since leaving Home. He quickly took out his ruined leather bound journal, and scribbled a few hasty notes before stuffing the Silly Book back into his cloak, and returning his attention to the guard.
(Can I do some sort of check to see if I know anything about what Tangle was going on about, Seelie Court of Faerie? Or an insight check to see if shes full of it)
No weapons? No magic? Those were like... all the fun things. All of them. Bug would be hard pressed to think of an idea that was fun that didn't also involve weapons and magic. He pulled his hood back a bit, attempting to find a better view of the man. He looked mean. And old. But more mean than old. Bug began shifting his weight again in anxiety. Better not press his luck, he had seen enough for today. The city was imposing, and there were too many rules. Bug Crunch hated rules. Nobody told him what to do in the woods.
Maybe the carnival had less rules. Maybe he could find tasty treats there too... the guard did say they were also doing magic. Maybe they would show him their magic, and he could them his! MAYBE THEY COULD MAKE HIM.... WHAT IF HE COULD.... OH MAN THEY HAVE MAGIC. Bug Crunch began to visibly tremble from excitement, and he feathers began to ruffle, his dance of anxious energy began to give way to some elaborate dance of joy.
"WROK!" he cried out in his own voice, "MAYOR PERMITS MAGIC!" he cried in the voice of the old guard, "warping of the weave! WROOOOK! Warping of the weave!" he cried out in Tangles voice, and began pulling at her clothing, tugging her towards the carnival. "MEAT. PIES." he roared in the voice of the younger guard. "WARP THE WEAVE!" he cried once more in the womans voice, almost pleading with her.
Tangle starts at Bug's outburst, then, as he goes on, she smiles. "Yes, yes. Yes!" She laughs and allows herself to be pulled towards the tents. Over her shoulder she calls out to the guards, "We'll be going this way! Send meat pies! Or send Olivia!" Then she skips along with Bug.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
“I do not know. Perhaps they are looking for tattoos. I am unfamiliar with the customs of this land. Do you have a problem with arms on the mainland?”
Perry just nods stupidly again and grunts in response. And people think I'm the weird? Wonder what they think when they meet HIM! He thinks to himself.
(Bug can make nature check to see if he understands what it is and an insight check to see if he thinks she is telling the truth.)
The two guards jump at Bug's sudden outburst and instinctively hold their spears up at the bird. They watch closely as both of the very strange people leave for the tents. The two walk for about five minutes along side the wall. When the two arrive, they are greeted by the sight of three large striped tents. Several people walk back and forth between the tents carrying bags and what look to be large chests. All of a sudden the delicious smell of cooked meat fills their senses. Searching for the origin of the smell, they notice that small fire pit has been set off to the side of the blue tent and surrounded by a couple of small logs, barrels, and a fairly large rock. From where the duo are now, they can easily see a person sitting on one of the logs; stirring something in a large cauldron that is held aloft by what looks to be a modified cooking spit.
Perry and Wolf Pup:
The duo of Perry and Wolf Pup make their way up the stairs and into the town, they pass by a cobblestone building where they hear the sounds of metal hitting metal. A look up reveals a hanging sign bearing the imagine of a hammer hitting an anvil and the bold letters spelling out "Mr. & Mrs. Smith". Continuing down the street widens to an open square, the first thing they see upon stepping out into the square is a the statue of a man with his arms extended out, just past that is a large fountain and another statue on the opposite side of the fountain facing east ward. Both of the statues are decorated with several objects, but they can not make out the details of the statues, unless they take a closer look. The next part of their journey takes a few minutes as they have to fight their way through the overwhelmingly crowded street that leads out of town; the street is packed with these sorts of ramshackle stalls where people are selling ribbons, lanterns, and a lot of these little homemade crafts, trinkets and treats. They finally reach the gate, the two guards there simply nod as the human and half-orc pass by. Finally you see the large tents of carnival ahead of you.
Dr Jinn:
The guard doesn't seem to acknowledge what Jinn says to them, and brushes past her to speak to someone else. (If it wasn't obvious the guard you spoke to was a different guard from the the guards that the other two spoke to.) Walking up the stairs she thinks over the directions she was given in her head and walks to the center of town. She notices the two statues and the fountain as well. From they're she see the road that heads south and follows it, eventually arriving at a two-story building that looks like an overturned ship. Greeting the customers of the tavern is an old, wooden figurehead of a mermaid has been attached to the space above the door. Her hands cradle her face which has a look of deep sorrow etched into it. Its fairly obvious, even without looking at the sign, that this is probably the Mermaids Tears.
Fenchurch:
Molly finishes up his snack, licking the sugar off his lips.
"Yeah, saw people selling em over on the main street." He gestures vaguely in that direction. He stands back up and stretches. Fenchurch watches him takes out his deck of cards and begin shuffling them.
"Mmm. Anyway Fenny, just stopped by to tell you that Stark says we'll be spending the night here and headin' out early tomorrow to the next town. Now I'm gonna head on over to the tavern. Vip's gotta hankering for the hard stuff and I've been the one designated to find her a supply that'll be enough to last her." He gives Fin a smirk.
"And if a make a coin or two while I'm there, well she can't say I wasn't doing my job." He gives the gnome wide wave as he walks off toward the tavern, before he's completely out of earshot he yells out.
"Grab me one of them gold ones will you. I'll meet back up with you tonight."
“There are many people here. How do they all remember each other? It seems like it would be very difficult to meet with so many people. Is this not right?” Wolf Pup whispers down to Perry as they’re walking.

The tavern is surprisingly actually pretty empty. The inside of the building is decently sized, though not as big as many other taverns you've seen. A few people, families most likely, are sitting around quietly eating food and drinking. Most people seem to be busy outside. No one is currently at the bar itself, but you do spot a young woman in a green dress with short, curly, black hair walking around cleaning some of the tables. As you enter she turns from the table she is currently at, sees you at the door, and waves to you. She heads on over to meet you at the bar. Now that you have a closer look, in the dim light of the tavern you can see she has a small mole under her left eye. She smiles warmly at you as she dries off her hands on a nearby towel.
"Well hello, stranger. I must say you came at quite the opportune time. With the festival going on, all our regular patrons are out there celebrating, Not that I'm complaining, I not often I have a chance to enjoy an such an easy day at work. Now then, what can I get you. We have several drinks, mostly ale but different brews; let's see there's, Murkoff's, Emmerlot's, and I believe there's some Trollblood if you think yourself one of the more hardier folk. As for food; we've got stake, baked potatoes, we have some beef stew that should be done right about now., and I just put some meat pies in the oven."
Wolf Pup picks up his items once more, “Thank you for your assistance. May the Rising Sun shine upon you... Bye.” Wolf Pup walks off quickly.

"It's Doctor Jinn."
She picked her knapsack off the ground and placed it and her weapons on the table.
She pulled her scarf away from her face and hair and placed it on the table.
"I like taking vacation where there are normally not so many people."
She glanced around at the crowds.
"That was before I heard there was a festival."
The guard doesn't answer as they go about checking Dr. Jinn's equipment and (like the others) the guard asks Dr.jinn to show them her bicep, they check the spot next to the shoulder, and satisfied with whatever answer they get from that, return Jinn's items to her.

She looked at the guards as they checked her arm and began to grab her things off the table.
Pulling her scarf back around her she sighed and glanced at the pair.
"I'm glad that we are so in sync."
She turned her gaze towards the male guard.
"So in sync that we're actually wearing each other's underwear."
She patted him on the shoulder then bent down to pick up the sweet roll to toss in the bin.
"Be seeing you guys."
she said as she walked away from the two heading towards what she assumed was the Inn.
After jogging up beside Wolf Pup, Perry falls into step with him. "Wha' do ya think they're lookin' for on our arms?"

She looked at the building a bit before entering the building.
As she entered she could hear nothing but small chatter among the small groups.
A smile reached her face, which very seldomly happens.
Finally quiet.
Reaching the bar where a woman tended to she glances at her
"Miss, I would like whatever food you have available and a drink."

"Hmm... I think I will take a steak and baked potato."
She sat down at the bar and gazed over the patrons that were currently there before turning her gaze back to the bartender.
"Miss, could I also get a room? How much will all of this cost me? Just for a night and all."
