Vappa grits his teeth whilst tightly gripping his temple. That damned halfling is going to get what's...wait. This voice sounded...different. Much more...sinister. It speaks of power, power it will give him if he obeys. To help his family? Is that what the voice means?
Bartimaeus stage whispers something back in response, then turns back towards the direction of the mayors manor, shakes his head and mutters "Stupid shadow place" and continues on
"I understand your worries Emeny, but I know what the mayor's family is going through. To be alone in a strange place with no one to ask for help. To be placed in a dire situation due to someone else. To wake up hoping if your loved ones still lives while deep inside you know the chances are next to impossible."
Barxik lifts his shield up to as he places its emblem next to his body and casts Bless to the three of them.
"I have offered everything to Ilmater for I believe his teaching can save those who are suffering and empower those who endure. The same as those who had saved me before, I will do everything to save those in need."
The paladin charges to the fissure with conviction.
(Clarification: I thought there were kobalds streaming out of the fissure (didn’t realize it was empty), as we head to the manor and see everyone else heading into the fissure, is there a path for us to get there or are we sperated by kobalds?)

Ooc: I think everyone but Nox has committed to a path. Only Vappa, Ironwall, and Barxik are moving to the fissure. It's almost an even split! And it looks like a battle is about to unfold between us?
Nox looked back and forth as the groups seemed to split almost evenly. Some headed to the fissure, and others for town. She shook her head. "Time for an incredibly stupid decision. But you did say to keep you entertained. I guess this qualifies?" She says into the empty air, not sure if the mysterious fey could hear her or not. She got up from her hiding place and quickly moved towards the fissure. It was now or never.

Sorry about that! The fissure opened up, unleashed a portal to the Shadowfell, let loose the dragon. THEN the dragon did some sort of magic when it landed in a nearby area and summoned all of these kobolds from underground somewhere. The fissure is clearly a way down to the Underdark and is sort of a Ground Zero in this situation, sort of a big ugly scorch mark.
For clarification, could everybody post if they are heading to the fissure to try and bypass the kobolds and go into the Underdark, OR heading into the city to find the mayor's place, OR taking on the kobolds.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ironwall:
At the fissure, I stop and turn around. We are being pursued and I wish to give my companions cover. I raise my ax and shield, ready for any kobolds that get too close. But I also steal a glance westward. That is my tribe, in Gilborg. They accepted a foolish goliath such as me as their own when I had no tribe, lost and on the edge of starvation. Are they threatened by this darkness? I try to see the edge of it, considering if I should keep moving west to save my own people.
(Once again sorry for the delay everybody, multiple projects in the air at the moment...)
The crew heading towards the fissure.... Vappa, your Insight only tells you that you are dealing with powerful forces you hardly understand. Ironwall and Barxik are the first to get to the lip/cliff of the fissure. They are followed by Vappa, Emeny, and Nox. All of you have assisted one another in staying hidden within the bush and trees as Kobolds move closer. You are peering over the edge, staring into a deep black nothingness it seems. There is evil down there. That is for sure. All of you know that down there could be any number of terrible things just waiting to pounce. The kobolds have stopped. They are about half way between the party near the fissure and Bartimaeus and Kyu.
Bartimaeus is headed straight through the shadowy ruins of Bittborg to where the mayor's manor is/was. Who knows if this is even the same place? There are undead crawling around town, slowly moving and moaning and gurgling. Bartimaeus please make a stealth check and a survival check to get closer without being noticed.
Kyu, you are sort of in the middle. Caught between the two choices. You would probably be seen by the kobolds if you headed to the fissure. Towards Bartimaeus it is easier to hide behind buildings and fences.
Their is no more sign of the dragon, just tons of churning black storm clouds above, and the cries and chatter of kobolds seeking blood.
Anybody at the fissure can look for a way down, a path, a ladder, a rope.... This is an unnatural area and nobody is really familiar with how to approach it. There is about 2 rounds before the kobolds are close enough to start some missile attacks (you all think).
(Sorry for the delay y'all. I will try to do better. For all of your patience I'd like to bestow an inspiration die on every character :)
Ironwall you are especially focused on the fissure. Your soul is being torn one way by your people and your honor and another by this looming immediate threat. There is definitely cause for a warrior like you to stand against whatever lurks below in that crevasse. If this were to spread, or unleash more demons or monsters, they would no doubt reach your homeland, and then what could be done? You see wispy, black smoke or fog curling up and rising out of the fissure. There is what could be some footholds for climbing down, but a careful and closer inspection may be required. (Arcana, Nature, or Investigation for anything extraordinary)
Barxik is close to the opening as well. Barxik, your divine senses are reaching in to you, trying to tell you things but it is murky. As though a static is resonating out from this area. The Underdark is full of old gods. Chaos. The most evil of creatures known to you. Drow, Yuan Ti, Mindflayers... You know that down there you will find no admiration for your blessings and holy values. You will be faced with tough decisions. But, somewhere in the darkness, a blink of an aura shimmers briefly. You get a small glimpse of it in your mind. As though a voice is calling out. It is a beautiful thing. An object on an altar, in a crypt, far below you in the dark. A glowing, golden staff. A relic from another time. A remnant of a powerful holy saint. It remains in tact after centuries, millennia. Although, it is no doubt surrounded completely by beasts that are evil to the core. You see it for but a semi-second, and it is back to the moment at hand. In your mind, though, the holy relic's image is burned. You know it is waiting for you. (Arcana or Religion to understand what just happened).
Nox, the Mysterious Fey suddenly makes it known, "Oh, I CAN hear you my dear." The chilling and otherworldly voice reverberates in your skull like something you both fear and admire. "Rest assured Nox, this does entertain me. There are so many wonderfully dark things down there. So much to feel, taste, smell, hear, experience....fear... It is not safe. There is unimaginable power to be obtained in the Underdark, oh yes. But, everything will come with a cost. I will tell you this: It is no ordinary patch of Underdark you and your new "friends" are looking at. We have drifted into a bit of the Shadowfell. The Underdark here is worse than that you've heard rumors of back home. It is is tainted by the planar magic of shadow. Everything down there is MORE evil and frightening than you think. It will be so fun!" (Roll a d100 please......this is to deal with the encroaching feelings of madness....)
Emeny, you are right behind Barxik. His bold features and humble demeanor are overshadowed by the massive evil pit that lies before you. Still, he and Ironwall look prepared to protect all of you and fight till whatever end. It certainly seems preferable to go into the dark over fending off an army of kobolds and a dragon...

Vappa is going to the Underdark.
Nox is going to try to bypass the kobolds and head to the fissure.
Ironwall is headed towards the fissure.
Barxik heads to the fissure.
Bartimaeus is going to the mayors' manor, not confident in the groups odds going into the fissure just yet
"Ugh. Children." I mutter under my breath, but secretly I too am glad to be heading for whatever lies at the bottom of that cursed portal.
I follow close behind Barxik.
