Rue clicks his tongue dismissively at Bighat. "I am not in zee way," he complains to Threestrings. "What is zis Artist of Confidence hiding? Why should I not be allowed?"
"My dear, this area is for performers of tonight's show only," Bighat says, pointing to a crude sign saying just that. "People practice here, people change here, and people get into the frame of mind to perform here. As an artist, surely you know how important those moments before stage are to the moments on stage. If you want to audition for the next show, as talented as Threestrings believes you to be, you would be welcome back here as a comrade then. For now, I must ask you to give these artists their privacy, so that they may perform for the public."
"He has a point," allows Threestrings to Rue. "And as importantly, he has a contract, and Durnan will back him on this." He drops his voice lower to a whisper only for Rue.
"Trust me. Rusty Bighat is a blowhard, but a harmless one, interested in only in the show. Whoever or whatever you suspect tonight, Bighat has no part of it. He would do anything legal to give his act a leg up, but he would not -- could not -- conceive of any action that would harm or distract from his current promotion."
The shabby bard stands slightly taller as his whisper turns to steel. "And even if he could, he would not do it here. He asked me to join tonight because all know the Portal is my home, and Bighat knows precisely what I can and will do to him should he threaten it."
Rue bristles for a few moments - possibly because he has never actually performed on stage - but backs down at Threestrings' words. He bows his head to the performers and steps back toward the main room, pausing only to point at Threestrings and whisper.
(( Casting Message to Threestrings ))
"So it is true you stay here? I do not wish to disrupt your performance, for it was wonderful to see you on stage, but... if you could spare a few moments to help our curiosity? I should be most grateful."

Orynn considers Arvel and Sarva's words. When Jun turns to him, he responds, "Use that speaking in people's ears thing to ask Rue to meet me in the cellar." He stands and gives a head jerk to Dekket. "Let's go," he mouths. The half-elf heads downstairs to find the cellar entrance.
Stealth to remain as inconspicuous as possible: 17
Perception to find the cellar entrance: 7 (if investigation would be better, +1)
(You can almost sense the chuckle through the response) I do not sleep here, but this is otherwise my base, yes. Give me a moment to placate Bighat, and I will join you in the main room.
A few moments later, Threestrings emerged from the backstage curtain. He paused a moment to acknowledge the raised mugs from a few audience members, and makes his way over to you.
Ooc: I leave it to you should this meeting be alone or where the others in the main room are.
Jun gives a slight shrug at the dismissal of his question, then leans slightly over the balcony rail to send a message to Rue.
("Orynn wants you to meet him and Dekket in the cellar to investigate something.")

Rue heads to the bar to request another pitcher while he waits for Threestrings. As the Bard emerges, Rue nods his way and then turns toward their original table, at which point he's intercepted by Jun's message.
He stops short, conflicted, then slowly walks the rest of the way to the table to set down the fresh pitcher. He can't see Orynn or Dekket or even Jun in the crowd, so he simply responds to Jun.
"I've Threestrings with me. I thought he may know some things to help us. It would be strange for me to disappear now, no?"
("Agreed. Keep following that lead. I'll let Orynn know.")

Threesstrings smiles broadly as he approaches. "I take it your questions have little to do with joining Rusty Bighats carnival of delights?"
Cellar folks:
You have one close call getting to the cellar, as a cook's assistant emerges with some container or sauce. Clearly, the cellar is in active use for supplies.
The cellar itself is a single large room, perhaps 50' by 80'. Torches every few feet provide more than enough light for staff to find what they need. Storage racks full of wine adorn every wall, and where they are not recessed alcoves containing barrels of ale sit. The center of the room contains various tables and racks of items you would find useful in support of any kitchen.

DM and Dekket:
Orynn says to Dekket as they reach the cellar, "Let's go ahead and start looking. Hopefully Rue will join us soon to lend a hand. Remember, the message in the mirror said something about a stone, and then it said something about written instructions in 'the usual place'."
DM, do we need to be specific about searching? First, I'll roll an investigation check — 14 — and then say Orynn begins by searching the storage racks.
When Jun turns back around to inform Orynn that Rue won't be joining him, he discovers that both Orynn and Dekket have already disappeared. Not wanting to draw further attention to their activities, he decides to forgoe following them, and instead keeps his eyes on the mouse conductor, waiting to see what he does after wrapping up his act.

Shaking off the messages, Rue gives Threestrings a wry grin. "I cannot imagine what might inspire one to join wiz such an insufferable person."
Rue turns and introduces his tablemates, who he thinks are just Aerys, Sarva, and Blossom, maybe. Then he collects a couple mugs and pours drinks for himself and Threestrings. "Come, please, join us."
"No better vantage point from which to watch over friend and foe alike than high on stage," answers Threesteings as he accepts the mug and sits down.
Orynn/Dekket:
Ooc: No, you do not have to be specific. Dekket may provide a separate investigation check as well.
A minute into your search, some bottles start rattling of their own accord. You swear you even hear some faint moaning, though you cannot quite pinpoint a source.
"Pleasure to see you again, Threestrings! Will you be performing tonight?" Aerys asks as he glances at Threestrings, nods, and then turns his attention to casually keep an eye on the stairs and room.
Threestrings says, still smiling, "usually people find my performances a bit more memorable. I went on just before Valas Trapp up there. Bravado? Baron of Blood? No, I'm done for the night...just an audience member until the curtain call."
Valas Trapp (mouse guy) is in fact still on stage. Anybody in the main room can easily spot each other, even if they are not at the table where Rue has led Threestrings.

Perception: 6 - Rue tries to spot where the other party members are.
"Some of us are new to zee city. Perhaps it is always so exciting here?"
Orynn halts as he hears the bottles rattling and moaning. "Rue?" he calls quietly. He looks about to see where Dekket is.
Nova: Cassandra wouldn't be that difficult to spot. She's presently still sitting with Leilani at a table (presumably) not too far from the stage.
DM: Is mouse-guy presently still on stage?
((Sorry for my lack of posts btw. Been watching the World Series, working and not much has been going on for Aerys to do lol!)
