Andmarir can't help and see what is happening and seems not to know what is next. " What are these things and how do you kill them?" He says this quickly and loudly as he shoots again at the one that everyone was hitting before.
Attacking Will #1 Attack: 21 Damage: 10 + 1 for Hunter's Mark
With most of the guests now outside of The Kettle, Utar will get as close as he can to the table with that the dwarven girl is cowering behind. Looking her in the eye and pointing towards Buhrell behind the bar "This table won't stop lightning girlie."
Pulling a hand axe from behind the back of his tabbard, he lets it fly at the Will'o whisp.
Andmarir: As your arrow passes through the Will-o'-Wisp, you can feel that it cannot avoid the damage caused by your marking spell (cumulative damage to Will-o'-Wisp#1: 17).
Utar: Empowered by your words, the dwarven girl stands up and begins to make her way towards the back. She isn't far from Buhrell, but her tiny legs prevent her from reaching the half-orc quickly. While she flees, you launch a handaxe through the air. You arc it a bit too much, hitting some of the hanging light fixtures. The weapon lands back on the ground harmlessly.
(Drazzim is still up for this round. We'll go into round 3 after that).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Sorry, had a long time not at home.)
Drazzim strides forward in an attempt to keep the Will-o'-Wisp's attention to himself. He draws his greataxe and slices at the floating mote of etherealness.
Greataxe vs. Will-o'-Wisp:20 vs. AC. Hit:13 slashing damage.
He'll then throw some extra effort into a follow-up swing (action surge, attack again)
Greataxe vs. Will-o'-Wisp:25 vs. AC. Hit:10 slashing damage.
(OOC: I’ve been mostly out of the house today as well, and mobile access is my only option at the moment. Plan on making more detailed posts later on today).
Drazzim steps forward with his greataxe in hand and slices twice at the Will-o'-Wisps closest to him. The spirit manages to evade the first pass of the weapon, but not the second. It flickers out of existence unceremoniously (cumulative damage to Will-o'-Wisp#1: 25->DEAD).
22. Marfaen - AC up to 16 because of Mage Armor; 21. Graxx, Neya, Rag; 20. Lightning; 18. Surruk; 16.Will-o'-Wisp#1, Will-o'-Wisp#2 (cumulative damage: 0); 08. Drazzim; 06. Andmarir - keeping concentration on Hunter's Mark; 03. Utar.
Graxx moves forward a bit after seeing Drazzim destroy his intended foe, and slices at the next Will-o'-Wisp. The ethereal ball cannot dodge in time (cumulative damage to Will-o'-Wisp#2: 4).
Neya: As the monk steps toward the window to help the tiefling merchant, the Will-o'-Wisp tries to release some of its energy onto her, but her fancy footwork is too quick even for this ball of light. Neya reaches the merchant and administers the potion, but at the expense of a shock to the hands (Neya takes 4 lightning damage for touching the man actively surrounded by lightning). The act of generosity is successful. The tiefling man, who was struggling to keep his consciousness, now seems more determine to resist. He is still trapped in the very visible blue bundle of lightning, but no longer looks like he is about to die. Additionally, being so close to the Lightning and its recent victims, your passive perception picks up a few things:
The original victim, who remains nameless so far, is still tightly gripping a dagger-like object. There is no doubt that he is dead, but his hands seem to be twitching a bit.
The second victim, the food taster called Schuyler, still grips his magical spice pouch and wears a bib deeply stained in the oil of the food he was eating.
The yellow flowers that were being sold by the would-be third victim are completely burnt, clearly receiving the brunt of the initial attack on the tiefling merchant.
(OOC @Pertuie: I'm afraid the 24-hour rule has been triggered. Everyone was called into action with this post, and we haven't heard from you since this post. This means that Marfaen will be going into autopilot for his next turn (below) so that we can keep the action going. I hope you can rejoin us soon).
Marfaen(autopilot): No longer threatened by the immediate proximity of an enemy, the wizard will point at the remaining Will-o'-Wisp and focus on it for a brief moment, trying to foresee its next movement (casting True Strike in preparation for a larger attack next turn, if it gets to that).
Rag (autopilot): The roguish halfling will continue doing what he's best at, that is, striking enemies while they are preoccupied with something/someone else.
-> Shortbow (ranged melee attack with Sneak Attack) vs Will-o'-Wisp#2: Attack: 11Damage: 11 piercing.
-> The arrow misses it mark by a foot, striking a wall sconce.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lightning: The magical effect continues to wreak havoc. Although it doesn't seem to have a consciousness of its own, it is still "choosing" its targets carefully. With the tiefling merchant now magically healed, the Lightning arcs over to Surruk, hitting her bow first, and then enveloping her in agonizing pain. Now free, the merchant follows Neya's advice and leaves The Tea Kettle's window without his now destroyed flowery wares.
Surruk: With an arrow still notched at her unique-looking bow, the elf's muscles lock in place as she is unable to react to the Lightning's powerful strike. Next to her, Andmarir can tell that his fellow elf will not be able to resist for long at this rate.
At this point, the dwarven girl reaches Buhrell. Looking at her, and then back at the Lightning, the half-orc woman rips the girl's safflower necklace from her little neck and leads her to the back. The dwarven girl looks terrified, but follows Buhrell's instruction and leaves.
Will-o'-Wisp: Mostly unfazed, the Will-o'-Wisp attacks Drazzim.
-> (OOC: OOH.. that's a crit!) A large discharge of energy is released at Drazzim, whose eyeballs turn white and hair begins smoking a bit. Drazzim is unconscious.
Even before Drazzim hits the floor, the Will-o'-Wisp begins to float downwards, as if it was going to land. Instead, it moves through the floor as if there wasn't one to begin with (OOC: no attack of opportunity triggered here, as it is not visible anymore by the time it leaves Graxx's range). It then emerges from the floor almost fifty feet from where it was, and begins feeding on the unconscious body of the hat-wearing half-elf that Graxx had put to sleep earlier this evening.
Hat-wearing Half-elf's CON saving throw: 9. Will-o'-Wisp heals for: 9. (Cumulative damage to Will-o'Wisp#2: 0).
UPDATED MAP:
(Drazzim, Andmarir, and Utar are up next. Marfaen, Graxx, Neya, and Rag can also post for the next round).
(Oh yes! Death saves at the beginning of a turn FTW!)
Drazzim, falling to the floor, seems to suddenly jolt awake from the shock. He stands back up, feeling the energy rush through him before he turns to see the will-o'-wisp has moved. He steps as close as he can, grabbing the handaxe from the floor he threw at it earlier, and hurling it once more.
Bonus Action: Second Wind to regain 3 hit points. Manipulate an Object: Pick up the handaxe. Movement: Stand up, move 10 feet towards the will-o'-wisp. Action:Attack by throwing the handaxe.
Handaxe vs. Will-o'Wisp:16 vs. AC. Hit:9 slashing damage.
Andmarir watches this all happen from his high point advantage. When Surruk gets attacked and she seems to be paralyzed or in a lot of pain. Andmarir did not hesitate, he reaches out towards Surruk and in doing so. " By Meiliki's name, may your wounds heal." . He casts cure wounds upon touching her.
Spotting the Will-o'-the-wisp now behind him, Utar turns on his heels and hefts his warhammer in both hands, stepping towards the ball of light and letting swing.
OOC - Burning my inspiration from earlier for advantage on the attack. Also have updated Utar's AC.
Attack: 16 Damage: 8
Realising his first swing was probably not enough, Utar uses Torm's aid to swing again as a bonus action.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC @pokepaladdy: Perfect timing for a Nat20!).
Drazzim's resilience brings him back up immediately, but his launched ax misses its mark, landing on the dried up body of the hat-wearing half-elf instead.
Andmarir heals Surruk, who now looks to be less in pain. The Lightning still surrounds her and harms Andmarir upon touching the female elf (Andmarir takes 5 lightning damage from having to touch Surruk in order to heal her -> please make a CON saving throw along with your next post to see if you can keep concentration on Hunter's Mark).
Utar: Abandoning his defenses (i.e. his shield), Utar swings his hammer ferociously, but the Will-o'-Wisp zips out of the way, barely.
END OF INITIATIVE ROUND 3
(We'll pick up at top of initiative order shortly).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
INITIATIVE ROUND 4
22. Marfaen - AC up to 16 because of Mage Armor, keeping concentration on True Strike; 21. Graxx, Neya, Rag; 20. Lightning; 18. Surruk - stunned (and therefore also incapacitated) by the Lightning. 16.Will-o'-Wisp#1, Will-o'-Wisp#2 (cumulative damage: 0); 08. Drazzim; 06. Andmarir - keeping concentration on Hunter's Mark (please make a concentration check); 03. Utar.
Neya: Examining the dagger-like item more closely, you conclude that his is a loosened fang from some very large beast or monster. It has clearly been imbued with some foul magic but it may also be of some help. It looks like a fine stand of the blue lightning is still attached to the tooth. Perhaps it could be trapped inside the tooth once again somehow (You may roll nature and arcana checks to find out more about the tooth if you want).
Rag (autopilot) will shoot another arrow at the ball of light.
-> Shortbow (ranged weapon attack with Sneak Attack) vs. Will-o'-Wisp#2: Attack: 9Damage: 10 piercing.
Andmarir can't help and see what is happening and seems not to know what is next. " What are these things and how do you kill them?" He says this quickly and loudly as he shoots again at the one that everyone was hitting before.
