"interesting.."Barnibus pauses, turns to Cromley, "Perhaps that particular trail isn't cold after all!". Cromley quickly nods and walks quickly off towards a pair of Watch officers down the hallway. After a brief discussion the two run off, likely to carry out their instructions - one out the front door and the other farther into the building.
Back to you Barnibus smiles and takes the detector, "Our own efforts had led us in a similar direction but without something to corroborate it can be fussy business raiding a noble estate. Another citizen thought he saw the contraption inside their gates earlier in the day, and another saw a figure entering one of their side gates which was similar in appearance to the one spotted fleeing the scene. With a third arrow pointing there we at least have enough to go and speak with them. Thank you for coming back to us - I will be sure to update you once we have investigated. We will get to the bottom of it! Trust in the Watch.
If there's nothing else, I will join the Sargent on his visit"
Nodding politely to Barnibus to indicate that he has nothing further to add Gargan simply says: “Good fortune to you all in your investigation.”
With that the Dragonborn remembers what Barnibus had said in their first encounter and once the Mage has departed asks someone else in the office where he should register as a sorcerer of talent.
As you make your way towards the entrance you stop to inquire with the same gentlemen you met on the way in about joining the order. He seems quite pleased to have a new member join their ranks and quickly brings a somewhat large tome up from under the desk. On taking your name he flips through the pages to find the correct spot, and records your information.
"Outstanding! There is a small registration fee of 10 dragons, the receipt of which will make you a full member of the order. There are no .. particular responsibilities or indeed really any benefits of being part of the order. We report to the Blackstaff and are merely a resource for them to tap when required. Often that is merely lending our expertise to help investigators determine whether magic was used to commit a crime in the city, what type and what the source may be. You also may be called on in times of need if there is a fire or other disaster of some sort. Magical talents can be very useful in times such as those.
Rest assured if you are called on for assistance you will be rewarded for your contributions - we aren't slaves after all! The Blackstaff are an honourable group and value our abilities and the contributions we make. Of course we can always be a resource for you as well, if you are looking for information related to the arcane. The knowledge accumulated here and across our ranks is quite vast I assure you!"
As he hands over the registration fee Gargan gives Cloudfur a quick glance that pleads for the Tabaxi not to cause trouble before replying to the fellow: “That sounds most agreeable, it is good to know such a resource is available and that I can provide assistance to the city. I seem to have become something of an amateur investigator of late regardless, t’would be only logical to aid the city more officially if required. Speaking of which, are there any matters with which I might be able to assist with at present?”
Jack grimaces at the question. It took some time, but eventually she sighs and pinches her forehead a few times. "Funny, but I ain't da boss of anyone. I'm barely the boss of myself."She smiles faintly at that, then frowns and shakes her head. "Way I figure tho'? After getting properly tipsy at least, and maybe see'n bout a new set of clothes, I go see just how well the tin heads 'cide to look into the matter. Maybe keep an eye out for any 'scap'n friend of a friend." She admits frankly, then winces at something.
"Least... that's 'ow I'm tempted to handle it, see'n this sorta thing falls more along my line of expertise than the rest of ya. Not to mention I'm a bit more motivated to do it properly than a certain hypocrite of a cat man."She pauses and scrunches her face. "Kind of a hypocrite, tho' that might not be wholly right word for it... whatever. I'm just... So maybe I jumped on Plan B just a little too quickly. Only a little bit, but still! It looked like you guys were blow'n it pretty bad there."She promptly raises her hand in defense. "I know, I know. Couldn't have gotten little more than snippets out of the whole thing, considering me and that cat fellar were a bit back from the whole thing. But if there ever was gonna be a good time fer it, best when at least some of the other side were a might bit distracted, right?"She says, though with very little conviction behind it all.
And after a moment or two, she sighs inwardly and flops back into her seat. "By the way, Why'ja follow me? Though I might try something else reckless?" She asks, sounding more amused than accusatory.

Kanus chuckles before taking a long draw from his tankard, "Answer to that is simple, you promised to pay me. I go where the dragons flow." he takes another long draw and finishes the warm amber liquid in his cup. "You seemed upset as well..." he casts a side eye over to Jack, "...figure if we are going to make coin together you might need someone to buy you a drink and calm ya down to keep a cool head. You seem to be leading this merry band after all"
Jack makes silent 'o' expression before smirking and rolling her eyes. "That I did. That. I. Did."She takes her own long draw at the same time as if savoring the moment. "Hm? Me? Upset? No way~"She replies, snickering and shaking her head. Soon after, the small smile falters and fades away. She sinks in her seat, sipping tentatively at her drink and seeming lost in thought for a time.
"Leading might be a bit of stretch. If I'm anything, its a busy body... and maybe too much of one at that." She admits sounding almost regretful. "In all honesty, I'm surprised those other two even listen to me. Then again, they probably figure they don't have too much choice. Not if they want to keep getting help from my friends."Jack frowns and starts playing with a lock of hair. "But... th-that's okay. I just need to give it more time! Took me two years just to get Sizan to acknowledge my presence, so this is nothing. I just... I need to be a little more flexible. And patient. And-... yeah..."Jack trails off from there, guzzling down the rest of her drink, and then lays her head flat against the table.

Kanus Tredicim
Kanus smiles, "Well they say patience is a virtue...then again the early bird gets the worm. So as far as platitudes go there's a bit of conflict on that one." Kanus orders another round of drinks, and once delivered he takes a large swallow and then says, "If they follow you, then no matter the reason, you hold the reigns. Guide them as far as you can, and lean on them when you can. Play into their strengths and do your best to nullify their weaknesses, or at least protect the whole from them. That is the essence of a leader."
Gargan: "Ah well.. nothing at this very second, no. If you're looking to assist you might check in with Vajra at Blackstaff tower. She usually has work that needs doing .. though not necessarily related to the arcane."
(I feel like it's some time early afternoon. You're not sure when you'll hear back from Barnibus so .. what would you like to do?)
I guess unless Gargan has anything else he'd like to do - Cloudfur would either head back to the Yawning Portal where he assumes Jack and Kanus are or back to our Manor to check on the progress or work on it some more
(seems we're sort of at a dead end until we hear back from the Watch? unless we want to talk to Raenar and see if he knows anything more)
Jack groans and plants her face against her forearm on the table. "But I don't wanna be a leader~" She says, complaints muffled against clothing. "Leaders don't get to have any fun! You always have to worry about everything for everyones sake, and... AND-..." She trails off into a sigh, and replants her head after lifting it just enough for the rant.
After a moment of silence, Jack grumbles as she lifts her head up completely, takes a final swig of her tankard, then stares at Kanus for a lengthy moment. Wordlessly after, she turns away, rubbing at her forehead. "I'm gonna talk to some friends. Get the word out about the manor, and see what they can dig up too... Maybe look into those two tin heads while they're at it." She gets up on that note, patting Kanus on the shoulder. "I'll be back in say... an hour? If there others show up, let them know."
Jack takes her leave of the portal to the Cracked Cauldron to get the word out for another cell to look into the manor, and another into Barnabus' track record. After a moment's hesitation, she offers her own cell's "assistance" on another matter in exchange for the help if needed.
Once business was concluded in the area, she joins the others at the portal. The moment she lays eyes on Cloudfur, she tries to effect a smile, and nervously offers a hand for a shake. "I'm... *sighs*.. Not got at these things, but I'm sorry, okay! For pushing you, earlier." She says to the Tabaxi. Hopefully, afterwards she settles in beside them to just while away the hours until word either reaches them, or a new plan comes together.

He watches Jack approach him and extend out her hand which he looks at and then looks back at her for a moment.
Then he stands up, extends his hand and takes hers in his paw and leans in to whisper in her ear, before licking her cheek and then smiling and sitting back down at the table
"Apology accepted, and I wasn't sure how you liked your mice so I ordered them played with first....." and he'll indicate the bowls of stew at the table.
She held her ground as he stood up, though what happened afterwards left her standing their blushing furiously and staring off into space. After a moment of this however, she visibly shudders upon awakening from a stupor. Jack then buries most of her face behind a scarf as she sat down with the others to quietly spoon stew into her maw, carrying not one iota if there was actual mouse bits in or not.
Unless the duo(Garban and Cloudfur) volunteer all that happens, the woman neither presses or even questions. But rather she remains quiet and lost for the rest of the evening and thensome until provoked into action.
"While you were off pouting, Gargan and I spoke with Barnibus and Cromley, the two men who are investigating the explosion outside our manor, and informed them of what we had discovered concerning the nimblewrights, and Gralhund Villa. Apparently they have other witnesses who have noticed suspicious activities going on there and will investigate further and keep us informed."
"Indeed, while the matter is out of our hands at present progress is being made nonetheless. Without knowing how long this investigation will take perhaps now is a good time to seek some further employment while we await further news?"
Taking out four of the gems from the pouch he has, leaving the quartz behind, he places them on a table in front of the others.
"The sale of these precious stones should certainly go some way to gathering a small horde of dragons no? Does anyone have somewhere to sell such things?"
Jack listens; but, it is not until the quartz comes up that she visibly perks up. "I wouldn't go that far! But, since they're probably not like the "other" thing I sold off last, you could probably uses those in place of hard coin in some places here. I'd try the markets back in the Tradesward though. If not to purchase something, then at least have those appraised and sold." She says casually. "Though, if those are marked in some way like those last "items" I sold off last, chances are you'll get a visit sooner or later from their owner."
Frowning, Jack glances around to see if any were paying far too close attention to the group at this point.
