Elyza says, "Elf is a race of people much like yourselves, except they can't breathe underwater. They are a land based civilization. They live long lives, close to 900 years. They also don't need sleep and just meditate. It's a unique trait of their biology, actually."
"Our curious resident researcher was planning on making safe and thorough observations of the feline creature back on our ship as it was the first living creature we found in this water world. Afterwards, we were planning on releasing it back to the wild. During that time, we still didn't knew it had an owner.
We then promptly released the said creature after speaking with the fish folk we met at the shore."

Started as a player at time of registration. Started to DM a month later. Hoping to get better as time progresses.
The robed figure seems quite offended by being called a "fish folk", but tries to ignore it. After all, the monkeys don't understand the customs after all.
"Is it normal for your kind to attempt to capture to 'study' creatures as soon as you-"
The doors to the throne room burst open again, this time six guards enter, with another strange being in tow. It is tied up with chains, being dragged by the guards. While the folk you have met so far are more like humanoids adapted with fish-like features (fins, gils, etc.) this could most definitely be classed as a "fish person". Its head looks like that of a fish, with large yellow glassy eyes and silvery scales. Its sharp teeth are shown as it hisses at its captors while being dragged on its clawed webbed feet. The guards stop several feet away from the group, and call out in Aquan (first spoiler) to their liege.
"Your majesty, we have found one of the kuo-toan spies. She was in the midst of attempting to access the nursery."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Elyza's attention is immediately taken by the introduction of the new creature. Elyza moves to get as close to it as the guards or the robed figure would let her and begins trying to decipher anything she can about the physiology of the thing from an outside glance.
From an initial perspective, Elyza can tell that this is another amphibious creature of some sort. While it has a base humanoid form, it is much more "fish-like" than the other race they have met so far. The creature doesn't appear too injured, and is capable of walking upright normally (though the restraining chains aren't helping too much).
Elyza looks at the newcomer and thinks aloud. She has her voice down since she isn't aware she is actually speaking her thoughts out.
"Fascinating. It seems these creatures are quite similar to the Kuo-Toa back on Evadil. However, judging by its presence here, it seems they have moved to an oceanic habitat rather than an underdark habitat. Not really surprising considering their aquatic nature. Moreover, if their behavioral patterns and internal biology is identical to what we're familiar with, then it stands to reason they would live in trenches or in deeper parts of the ocean where sunlight is a lot less. They might also inhabit undersea caves and be a mostly nocturnal species. Oh how I wish I could study this thing in much greater detail; there's only so much I can speculate from a cursory glance. Especially from a distance."
The kuo-toa hisses some sort of strange tongue (it's not Aquan). The robed figure seems disgusted. "Heretic!" It calls as a blast of radiant energy (a Sacred Flame) strikes the chained creature. He then looks to Elyza. "You know of these monsters?" It asks her.
Elyza answers, "Well, that's a bit complicated to answer. We have a species back on our home world that is strikingly similar to the specimen you just damaged with your divine magic. However, I don't believe the Kuo-Toa we have back home have anything to do with the ones here, for obvious reasons."
"Take it to the dungeon!" The robed figure tells the guards as they march the kuo-toa out. He then looks to the party, his demeanour a little more pleasant, though this may be a more of a facade, it is hard to tell. "So, travellers of the sky, you say you know the ways of these beasts... these, kuo-toa." The robed one looks disgusted to even say their name. "Then perhaps you are in luck. His Majesty has been in dire straights since one of their assassins arrived and attempt to claim His life, leaving Him with..." He looks to the king stuffing his face. "A vexing curse of some sort from one of their artefacts." He returns his look to the party. "If you submit to a quest, I am sure His Majesty will overlook all prior crimes you may have committed to this great kingdom."
(Basically, would you like to do a kuo-toa hunting quest?)
Elyza says, "If we take this mission, it might give us a chance to look around a bit in this watery environment. If we get lucky we could take a few specimens back to the ship for dissection... even if we take them dead."
“If it gets us in good light with this empire, I’m down to slay and grill some fish people,” Vyserra grins, cracking her knuckles. “If anyone sees otherwise though, speak up.”

The robed figure nods. "Very well, you shall have a task ahead of you. The patrol inform me you are not naturally able to breathe beneath the water like our kin. That means you have until nightfall before the spell should wear off. That should be plenty of time for you to investigate this matter. If you fail, you will drown. If you succeed, you will be pardoned and live."
Elyza is a bit shocked at this and says, "Wait... so are you seriously telling me that the fact we are from a completely different planet doesn't matter even the slightest to you?"
"Do you have proof of your claims?" The robed figure replies. "For all we know you could be some agents from another land beyond our borders. You have yet to prove you are beyond the stars. Strange though you may be, I cannot just take you for your word."

(Elirdian, please can you make a Persuasion check. Have advantage from Elyza being compliant and providing information.)

(Yes, Kuo-Toa are beings that exist on Evadil.)

"I think we should take the quest. It will move us from prisoners to them owing us a bit." she says to the others.
