"Ah! Civilization! You don't suppose they might have a bookstore near that square don you? Although I am a bit light in the coin purse at the moment...
No matter! I am sure things will work out. They always seem to eventually. Lead on Dhara, you seem to have a good head on your shoulders."
You follow the road towards the city square. Upon reaching it, the chatter is so loud you barely hear each other talking. Houses around the square are nicer looking and in the centre of the square is a fountain surrounded with stalls. It is the start of a lively market which flows all the way to the ocean where you can see masts of trade ships. The smell of freshly baked bread and the sweet scent of honey mix with all sorts of exotic spices. There is a constant flow of people up and down the market road, accompanied with shouts encouraging them to buy goods. The majority of people you see are humans and half-elfs dressed in finer clothes; accompanying them are many guards, likely mercenaries or slave guards, consisting of hobgoblins and half-orcs. Another road leads away from the square, which seems less lively with only a few people using it. The road bends so you can’t tell where it leads to.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I'm looking for somewhere a little more secluded where we can get out of sight, stop and plan our next move. An alley maybe? Perhaps down the other road.
There are narrow alleys between the houses. Dhara looks down the alleys and picks one that looks empty; a winding alley between the houses which widens just enough that all of you can gather in a circle.
Meep would stick close to the others, but imagines they all look like a group of tourists or escaped convicts looking about in confusion. "We need to find the dark."
Halhace simply nods at what they say as he does his best to stay close, focusing on what lies ahead. "We should just continue to blend in... Find clothes that look like we do not belong in a slave pen."
Ok, being out of the limelight at least temporarily she stops:
"Ok, some of you obviously have more background than me here. I have no idea what's going on. Does anyone know anything about this city, it's layout, or .. anything at all? Like what city it is for starters? Also, what do you all intend to do from here?"
"I'm afraid I haven't the foggiest. I come from a place far from here. But I do know a thing or two about cities in general. We are moderately well armed and armored. Most will likely assume us guards or mercenaries. And almost every guard I have ever met spends his or her downtime in a tavern. Usually something on a bit of the seedier side away from questioning bluebloods and bureaucrats. I say we find us a dive near the docks. We are less likely to be too scrutinized there."
"I am not sure what this place is. My home was raided and I was taken captive then drugged until I awoke here." Halhace says as he can only shrug at the slave. "I would imagine clothes that are not ragged and worn. Although if we are careful we could pass as random adventurers...."
(I believe we are more or less all wearing armor of some type, based on what was provided. We probably don't look that out of the ordinary).
After some thought Dhara says "A tavern isn't a horrible idea. Perhaps we can gain more information and make some contacts there. Now, we don't have any money to pay a tab .. but that can be 'future-us's' problem".
You follow the back alleys, occasionally glimpsing on the noisy market road, still full of people. These alleys look to get much less use and are covered in a layer of sand. The only person you came across was a human mother and daughter, who, upon seeing you, turn into a different alley before they got too close.
Finally you emerge onto the edge of the market street, faced with grand cargo ships and people running to unload them. A few piles of sealed boxes are placed along the docks with people bartering by them. The rest of the cargo is being stored in the warehouse on the docks. Attached to the warehouse is “Sails Inn”. The sign hanging over the doors stands out, as it is the only part of the building made of wood. On that note, you have noticed that all houses are made out of stone or baked clay; there is nearly no sign of wooden construction.
Nearing the building and entering it you are met with even more shouting, this time more recognisable to you as it is the noise of drunken celebration. The smell of strong alcohol and cooked meat hits you as you enter. And you notice the tables in the centre have been pushed apart, where now stands a group of people singing something you can’t make out as every other word is slurred and unrecognisable. There is a mix of races present in the tavern; in equal part there are humans, dwarfs, halflings, half-orcs and half-elfs. You also notice the occasional elf and goliath. About a dozen people in the centre are celebrating something, while the tables around them are of a quieter atmosphere, with people simply enjoying their drinks or grumbling about daily life.
There is an empty table next to the bar. At this point you also notice that Albrec is no longer with you; he probably got separated from you in the crowd where docks and market meet.
Halhace will make his way to the empty table while doing his best not to draw attention. He won't be stealthy though as if anyone noticed that he figured it would be more suspicious then simply walking in and taking a seat. The biggest problem he saw now was the groups lack of money and the missing Albrec.
Dhara sets her eyes on a tall, drunken half-orc that is standing on the outer edge of the group celebrating in the centre. By all accounts, an easy target; he is singing along and nearly too drunk to stand by himself. But as Dhara reaches for his pockets he sways back slightly and she ends up hitting his back. He grabs her, and for a moment, she expected the worse to happen. Instead, he put his arm around her shoulders and for the rest of the song Dhara can do nothing but stay there as even when she tries to get away the half-orc’s grip is too strong for her to break free from (unless of course if you want to try and fight him?)
By the end of the song, with all the rest of the party sitting at the table, the half-orc turns to you about to say something. With surprise on his face he lets you go, “Sowi, I tout you was a mantru.” A strong smell of alcohol hits you as he speaks. He smiles at you, then turns to a nearby table and offers you an untouched tankard filled with some sort of alcohol.
Meanwhile...
After the rest of you settle yourself by the table, the barmaid comes over; a half-elf with light skin and dark hair and eyes.
“Welcome to Sails Inn.” She says, looking you over. “What can I get for you all? ...and, anything for your friend?”She gestures to Dhara.
Dhara belts out the tune with the half-orc, trying to make her failed failed thieving attempt look good. At the end she grabs the tankard happily, clinks a cheers with him and makes her way back to the table with the others. "I'm good for now", she says to the barmaid, raising the drink to her.

(you would now look similar to the mercenary or slave guard, so not totally out of place.)
