Kyne continues on below deck, ignoring the brusk tone to the captain's response, and deposits his pack in one of the cabins, along with a second, fancier-looking bag. Once he's satisfied with the arrangements he heads back up on deck to watch them leave. As Delethorn grows small behind them, his companion finally joins him, now with her hood down for the first time. Kyne smiles and embraces her warmly, brushing her hair back from her face, before taking her by the hand and leading her over towards his sister.
"Seb, this is Shallan. I don't know if you knew that, but I'm taking her away from her father. Shallan, this is Seb'riel. My sister."
Seb'riel looks up from where she had been watching the floor in deep thought.
"Hello, Shallan. You run from your father, or to follow my brother's charms?" Blunt as the question is there is no accusation or humour to the question. Just a matter of fact enquiry as one may ask if someone prefers the chicken or the fish. "Do you not fear the water?"
While the elves talk to the noble ladies, Mathilda stands with Hurosk and Moltaris, watching the harbour becoming smaller and smaller as they move out. "Have either of you been to Passage before? What kind of place is it?"
Hurosk's attention is focused in a similar direction as the rogue. He tenses as the ship picks up speed and leaves the fishing town behind. "You've got me. Every step now for me is as far as I've been from the Marshes."
"It's the same for me." Mathilda answers, watching the harbour a little longer. Then she turns around and leans against the railing, letting the breeze play with her hair. "It's exciting that, isn't it? Off to new places!" She is looking at the open water now, looking more at ease than she has in a while.
Shallan blushes and clutches at Kyne's arm, pulling her cloak tightly around her neck to ward off the cold.
"I do not," she asserts. "No more than I fear never seeing a world larger than Delethorn, at any rate. Kyne tells me you are the smartest person he knows. It's my pleasure to meet you, Seb'riel."
Kyne coughs uncomfortably when Shallan mentions his compliment, and throws the girl a sidelong glare. There's a smile behind it though.
"Seb," he says simply, changing the subject. "Flight?"
Seb gives a smile to Shallan. "We shall see how you feel when this is over."
She turns her attention to Kyne. "Yes, you must learn to fly or you will get wet when the battle begins. I don't think they will take kindly to us flying on deck though" She points towards the sailors. "They did not appreciate my vision of their fate did they?" She gives a mischievous grin. "Perhaps from the stern, the cabins and rails will stop most of them from seeing us."
Seb'riel gives a slight whistle and her owl companion lands on her shoulder she whispers something to it then it gives a squawk of protest as she plucks a feather from its wing. Soothing it for a moment she thrusts the feather into Kyne's hand.
"Hold onto this with your left hand. It's very important. No, grip it at the end with your thumb against the palm and shield the top with your fingers like you are hiding it from the sky. "
She whispers something to the bird before pressing her forehead to its and releasing it back into the sky where it loops around the shop before it flies up to the top of the mast watching out over the deck of the ship.
" Now, you must feel through the weave for your air line, wrap it around with the feather like so." She gives a small loop with her left hand. "Then use it to block your earth line." She pulls the arm back sharply. "It just gets complicated if you want to cast an acid splash." She smirks as though what she said was funny, but either doesn't notice or care when her amusement is not Reciprocated. She gives a little tap with her foot and rises a few centimetres into the air." It's hard to keep your balance at first, and easy to move further than you intended, but you get used to it. Try it."
Kyne frowns when Seb'riel passes him the owl feather. This is not at all how he is used to doing magic. Nevertheless, the elf takes hold of the offered spell component, shields it with his other hand, and begins to concentrate. Reaching for the element of air, as he has done many times before, Kyne loops and pulls. Electricity crackles and flies from the sorcerer's palm, leaving only a blackened quill where the feather once was.
"I'm not sure that's right, Seb," Kyne laughs bashfully, rubbing at the back of his neck with his other hand. "I never really use this stuff," he adds, gesturing to the owl. "It all just flows through me. What exactly did you mean about earth? I've never worked with earth before."
Seb shakes her head. Her brother's ignorance was alternately amusing and frustrating for her. The fact he did not understand was one thing, but that he could still use the weave was impressive. She often wondered whether she would have achieved so much if she had leant into her mother's way if life rather than letting curiosity get the better of her. She gives a smirk, clocking the charred feather in his hand as she hovers around Kyne in a circle. "The weave forms around you as it does me. Your power comes from it even if you do not realise it, I see how you work and the same things still happen. Think about when you summon lightening. That comes from the air. Those emotions, those gestures, those are what you need to pull on. But don't lash out with them, try to drink them in. Push them into the ground."
Kyne takes a beep breath and closes his eyes for a moment as he centres himself and mentally reaches out to feel for the elemental energies that surround them. Shallan has perched herself on the gangrail nearby and is watching with marked interest.
He draws on the air as Seb'riel has said to, feeling the power build within his chest, before abruptly channelling it into his feet. There's a muted whoompf, like an impact on the deck, and the elf is launched high into the air like a rocket.
"Aaaah!" Kyne cries out in surprise, flailing wildly in midair as he suddenly finds himself in freefall above the ship. "Seb?!"
As Seb is looking his brother floating away from the ship and Sallan tries to catch him both woman hears how someone is clearing his throat. behind them.
They turn and see the captain with a half concerned half surprised look in his face.
"Excuse me but.. ehem... our agreement was that you were to be on your cabin at all times and... how is he going to be able to look after you if he is drifting away the ship?" he says poitining to Kyne.
"I was here to invite you all to dinner in my cabin but... well that was unexpected I must say."
He looks towards the other side of the ship where Lyreis is talking to Ryn as if he would be rather there than dealing with... whatever was that.
"My brother is not my keeper and I agreed to nothing. I shall go as I please. Unless that is, you wish to return to port and wrestle me off of this ship?" Her fingers crackle with electrical energy as she speaks but she smiles in a jovial way. "I assure you. You will be glad that I am not locked below decks before this is done. Though perhaps it will make no difference for you, I have not seen your fate. Perhaps you would like me to look? Hold on." She does not wait for an answer. Instead flying up to take her brother's hand and guide him back towards the ship. "Try to keep some control. I know you are used to just releasing magic as you go, but this is really rather more of a thing that you keep in your mind." As the get closer to the ship again she calls out to the captain. "We would be delighted to join you for dinner. We shall come to you cabin around sunset."
With the trip seemingly underway without any issue and his offer to help not accepted, Hurosk soon starts to grow bored and turns to Mathilda. "Whelp, since it doesn't appear they want...," Hurosk says to Mathilda trailing off, his attention caught by what the elven siblings are up to. "On second thought, this might worth watching. How much you want to bet that he ends up in the water?" He continues to watch the display with much amusement.
Mathilda laughs as she turns and sees Kyne ungracefully fly up into the air. "Nah, that's his sister, she'll look out for him. It's what you do for your brothers,e ven when their idiots." A smile spreads across her face and she continues to watch them, but her gaze seems distant, like she is reliving some happy memory. "I miss my siblings very much. How about you? Do you have many brothers and sisters back home?"
The Captain mumbles something as Seb'riel goes and picks Kyne. When they both have their feet on the wooden deck he walks towards them and says.
"Ok that's enough. As I said before this is my ship and my authority will not be challenged. I don't know what he " he says pointing to Kyne " has told you but I know what he and I have arranged. Now your display on the docks got my whole crew on their nerves, but I wanted to help you... you seemed eager to leave the town behind, am I right?"he says looking at Shallan and then Kyne. " It seems that my good heart got the better of me again and I decided to lend a hand. Now we had an agreement and as people true to their word I expect you to honor it and not to start doing this things at the first chance. Do you dare to threaten me? in my own ship? I should have you hanged by your guts from the main mast... " he points to Seb " I am not afraid of that little magic of yours, but you should be mindful of my men. Look at them, look at them now "he says not turning his own head " They are watching, aren't they? I had a hard time convincing them to have you onboard and now I can say we are on the verge of a muttiny. So let me help you and don't be a child. Go to your cabin and meet me in mine one hour after sunset for dinner. "
Both elves look above the Captain's shoulder and can see that almost every sailor is looking at them. Long faces and tensed muscles, some of them even with their hands on their weapons.
From her still leaning posture against the mizzenmast, near Mathilda and Hurosk, Moltaris drawls, "Now Captain, that's not at all what you said. You said, 'the more time she spends in your quarters, the better.' You never ordered any of us to be in our cabins at all times."
The cleric relaxes with one thumb hooked in her sword belt and the other hand stroking the amulet around her neck. "Maybe I misunderstand," she continues, golden kalashtar eyes glittering, "and certainly it is your ship, but you can't expect us to obey orders we were never given? And surely you see the value of having a wizard aboard if you encounter the dread pirates that sail these waters... and a flying wizard at that!"

Captain Keitos turns towards Moltaris as if he just discoreved a cobra to his side.
He takes a deep breath, takes off his hat, passes a hand over his hair and put his hat on once more.
"Don't play fool with me. I do expect her to be in her cabin as much time as she can, now that you need specifics ten minutes a day will be enough for her to get some fresh air. At least for the moment. And I figured that you all were smarter. That is for her protection. That display on the docks were not see as benevolent magic from a wizard but a bad omen. And the crew thinkgs its bad luck to have you here. And first thing you do is to... fly... "he looks to Seb and Kyne " Of course I do appreciate the presence of a capable wizard in case there are problems. But I would have expected at least two days before you tried to bend or break our accord, as any decent man should do... now... " he lowers his voice " I am sure that at least some of you understand the weights of the leadership. So would you please go down now unitl dinner?"
Seb'riel gives a deep smirk showing no fear or care for the men behind the captain.
"A bad omen? No. A prediction of ill fortune, for certain. But ill fortune that would befall with or without my presence. Your men are tense I knew before I arrived. Their intentions towards me have been ill since before they saw me fly, this will make no difference to the way events transpire, they will find no joy in their plotting." She gives a warmer smile. "You though, will look after me. your intentions are good, and you know that you will need me. Now, let me walk before I must return to my studies, and order me no more."
[Seb'riel casts suggestion on the captain]
"I do like to see the sun and to remember that I am free before I lock myself back away with mybooks." She gives a gentle childish chuckle and walks carefree along the stern of the ship on her way to the cabin, pausing occasionally to smell the sea air and stare out into the distance. After a few minutes she does disappear inside though, and takes out her spell books to copy the spells she found in the tower into her own book.
