OOC - catching up, due to holidays and car trouble.
Ian stays with Glyn as they move up towards the hole, and HDP casts a nervous glance around the room. As the group discusses going down the rope, HDP waits patiently for the big guys to go first, saying something about "Age before beauty" then lowers himself down, before the elves.
Ian will motion for Glyn to go down first, then will look around the room one last time before going down the rope.
At the bottom, Ian and HDP pull their rapiers once again, and blink rapidly, getting their eyes used to the dim light.
Seeing the others poke around, seeing a few tunnels, Ian motions for the group to come back together, and says in a low whisper:
Whatever is in these tunnels, we have a better chance if we stay together. I can take the lead, perhaps followed by Gruxx, and he can help me navigate and keep my bearings. Glyn, would you mind taking up the rear? Perhaps you can use your string, and stake it here in this room, then drag it behind us, in case there are a lot of twists and turns I want to be able to find our way back out of here.
When everyone seems ready and on their guard, Ian will lead, aided by Gruxx if he needs it for navigation, into the unknown tunnels to the North West.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ian pauses, deciding which way to go. HDP pipes up, in a little whisper "My dad used to say, when in doubt, go left", which seems like as good advice as any.
Ian will press forward going due west, moving quietly and looking and listening for any sounds of danger or traps.
Ian leads the group west, but almost immediately the tunnel splits again, going south or doglegging north and the west. However, even from the fork, the elf can see that both paths are dead ends. They appear to be caveins.
So, going back, you can go due east, northwest, or northeast.
Ian, seeing both dead ends, pauses, scratches his head, then backtracks, leading the group back the direction they game, and taking the NorthWest Passage.
Twenty feet up the northwest tunnel, another deadend tunnel connects on their left. Five feet further and a tunnel from the right enters. Looking that way, Ian can see that after 15 feet, that tunnel ends at a T junction with tunnels going north and south. Ian also notices that the tunnels that direction appear to be more finished. The walls are smoother and the floor is less rough. Ahead (north), Ian can see the tunnel continues for some time. He thinks there might be a cave opening up just at the end of his darkvision. He also thinks he might hear the sounds of water that way. Only 10 feet ahead going north, a tunnel enters from the left.
You can go right (east) and then north or south, north and then west, or straight north (toward what might be a cave).
Ian is the red star. The red arrows are tunnels you've seen, but not yet taken.
Ian looks at the others, then looks at all the different possibilities. Hearing the water, he decides to make his way North, but then seeing the tunnel on the left sidetracks him. If there are enemies ahead, perhaps this tunnel will take them around to the side or back. Ian decides at the last second to take the West Tunnel, moving slowly and carefully. If that dead ends, he will move back, and head North, keeping quiet. If it opens out into a bigger room, he will pause before he gets to a spot that would make him visible to assess the situation.
I completely forgot to mention that about every two minutes, there is the sound of a crashing wave that echoes through the tunnels. The sound is loud, but not deafening, and the rock of the cave even shutters a little.
Taking the tunnel to the left, Ian almost immediately sees that there is another cave-in dead end. He backs out and heads north to the mouth of the cave ahead (star). A still pool fills much of this cavern. The water is dark, revealing little of what might lie within. The shore of the pool consists of a thin layer of broken shells from strange, pale mussels, and a fishy odor hangs in the air. The rogue can see that a set of steps climbs up to the east, and there appears to be a cave to the northeast that is mostly filled with water. He estimates there is enough room for their heads to stay above water if they entered, but he has no idea how deep it is below the water.
Ian responds to Glyn. "I dont know. I suppose we will find out..."
Ian moves forward to the stairs, and tries to stay out of view while peering around the corner to see where the stairs lead, and listening for any sounds coming from up the stairs. If he cant be seen from up the stairs, he will also get closer to the alcove at the North East and peer into it to see if he can see where it leads as well.
Glynquinal follows Ian in trace trying not to disturb anything that might alert their presence. Keeping an eye on the water, as he moves he works his way forward behind HDP, with Gruxx and Rock trailing behind.

and Squishy HDP will be somewhere in the middle!
Glynquinal nods, and will carefully remove a ball bearing like a bread crumb every so often to mark where they have been as they travel along.
Sounds good. So, going northwest, you can then head due west, due east, continue northwest, or go northeast.
Glynquinal taking up the rear position listens intently for sounds of anyone, or anything coming up from behind them.

Ian Perception: 5
Ian Stealth: 9
HDP Stealth: 24
At the Left turn Glynquinal will place two ball bearings to mark their path as they move forward.
Gruxx will follow 10 feet behind Glyn.
Rock will follow Ian.

Glynquinal calls out quietly to Ian, "Where to now Ian?"
Ian, seeing both dead ends, pauses, scratches his head, then backtracks, leading the group back the direction they game, and taking the NorthWest Passage.

Following Ian and HDP, Glynquinal follows along, occasionally placing a ball bearing to mark their path of travel.
Rock will follow HDP
