Up the stairs, Ian can see there is an intersection with a tunnel that goes left and right (makes a +). Ten feet beyond that is a closed door. From the shore, Ian cannot see into the northeast cave; he would need to get in the water.
Ian will tell the others to stay back and wait for him. He will also ask Glyn to keep an arrow at the ready. He will then slowly and quietly enter the water in an attempt to see where the path to the northeast leads. He will go only far enough to see what is there, then return to the party.
Ian slides into the dark waters and finds the water to be about three feet deep in the small cave, and there is two to three feet of space above the water, so the short elf doesn't even need to duck, but his taller friends will need to. Upon entering the cave of sluggish water, he can see just at the edge of his darkvision that the cave turns to the right, and he cannot see any further.
Ian will tie some of his rope around himself, and feed the end back to Glyn and the others, saying "Stay on your guard. If I tug twice, it means follow me into the cave. If I pull once, thats your cue to haul me out of there as fast as you can!" He looks at Gruxx and Rock "You two are the strongest. I will be relying on you." he lays the rope through their hands as well. "My life is, quite literally, potentially in your hands"
Ian will stow his rapier, and take out a dagger in each hand, make his way back into the water
Its a little chillier than the water he would normally go for a dip in. As he steps in, a foot at a time, he reminisces of times gone by with his family - hot summer days enjoying the lake. That was a long time ago, but the memory floods back to him now as if it were yesterday, and washes over him like the icy water of the cave washes over his boots and trousers.
He gives one last look at his crew, then ducks into the cave and will follow the tunnel, taking the turn, and seeing what lies ahead.
As you continue to slowly move forward, you hear a steady hiss that you identify as a substantial amount of water falling into more water. As the current of the water you're moving through is growing steadily faster (but not at all dangerously fast), you can only assume that there is some kind of small waterfall ahead. You can also make out the sounds of at least two people exerting themselves. You hear grunts and heavy breaths and what sounds like stones being moved. There is also some words, but very, very few. You hear, "Anything?" with the response of "Clear." You also realize that you're beginning to be able to see a little color. There must be some light in ... wherever you're going. Still moving almost silently (the sound of the water is helping), you reach the cave opening into a much larger space. A wide rift you can't see much of from your position fills the eastern half of this cavern. The stream you stand within pours out of the west wall, then disappears over the edge, tumbling down into the rift. Several ropes are secured to iron stakes along on the western edge of the rift (your side), also disappearing over the edge. There are two figures — a bugbear and a male dark-skinned elf — standing on your side of the rift, their backs to you. But they are not the ones making the sounds of effort, so you estimate there are at least two more down in the rift. The two you can see look like they are both supervising whatever is going on in the rift and also keeping watch on the two tunnels you can see on the eastern side of this area and north and south of you, so you suspect there are passages there as well.
Ian will tug twice on the rope, summining the others to his position. While he waits, he will take up a position where he can see the two creatures, but hopefully they cant see him. He will put an arrow into this crossbow and keep it trained on the bugbear.
He is also listening to see if he can hear any of what is going on up ahead, while he waits.

Glynquinal takes out his bow and nocks an arrow keeping a keen eye on Ian, ready to fire in an instant.

Glynquinal being occupied with his bow hands the end of the rope to Gruxx.
Then he stands ready bow in hand, arrow nocked waiting for his friend to return or signal trouble.
Rock will also take a hold of the rope.
“Two tugs follow. One tug pull with all might. Got it.” Says Gruxx.
Ian as you get to the bend and continue, you begin to hear some noises up ahead, but you're not sure how far.
Roll perception to learn more. Also, if you want to continue moving stealthily, roll stealth.

OOC - at last, the dice gods have shown favor to me!!

Gruxx looks to the others.
”He wants us to come. That was two rugs. Let’s go.”
Gruxx will keep hold of the rope and use it to guide him through the waters.
Everyone needs to roll stealth as they approach Ian.
Glynquinal removes his arrow, and tucks it back in the quiver. Stowing his equipment, he readies himself for a swim and enters the water behind Gruxx.

OOC - Any bonus or advantage since the noise of the water might mask any noise made by the party??
Stealth: 14
Roll a regular stealth, and I'll adjust the DC.
