30 seconds pass

Maegan: It's a good thing you can hold your breath as long as you need to, because you quickly become hopelessly lost. It's up to you whether you want to go forward into the maze or try to find your way back to the group, but either way I need another survival check.

Maegan will continue onwards as she’s incredibly stubborn and doesn’t want to go back to the rest of the group and say that she got lost.

Survival check: 9

Maegan also doesn’t hear the comment that Cora made about splitting the party because of the water. To Maegan it just sounded like a bunch of mumbled voices.

 Erok turns to the rest of the party in consternation.  "Well, it would appear Maegan intends to go through the maze.  How long do we wish to wait for her return? Or do we indeed split the party?" he asks.

Cora snaps out her arm and looks at the top of her wrist, as if looking at a watch she doesn't have. 

"Ooohhhhhh..." she thinks, looking at it, "Let's give her about 2 more minutes. She's a sassy, independent one. Ain't she?" she smiles.

Lilyth is fiddling with the pages of her notebook, a tad bit worried since the Genasi wasn’t showing any signs of coming back. “Maybe five more minutes instead...”

Cora considers Lilly's suggestion, then nods in agreement. "Ok, five minutes. Sounds good." She "presses" a "button" on her "watch". "Beep!" She sits next to Lilly and waits patiently. 

Maegan: You continue through the maze. It twists back and forth, some passages angling up and others sloping downward. You aren't sure where you are in relation to the entrance. I'll need another survival check.

Edit: Since the group has decided to wait five minutes, that gives you time for 10 checks. You can do a few at a time and see how it goes or do them all at once.

The group: Maegan has been gone for a full minute. You know she can hold her breath as long as she needs to, but it's still a tense wait as the air in the room continues to thicken and breathing becomes harder.

Yes. It seems the mechanism allows only one of the doors to be open at a time, and the Eastern door that leads to the underwater maze is the one that's currently open.

Understood. Well, I guess we're gonna have to hope she doesn't mess up that survival roll. I'd hate to split us all up.

"I hope she hurries." Cora leans over and says to Lilly, also looking at Erok. "It's getting hard to breathe again."

Lilyth gives the group a worried look as time ticks on. “Wasif, do you think the group above is trying to open the tomb again for us?” 

 Wasif wipes the sweat off his brow. He smiles, but can't hide how worried he is. "They are good men and I am sure they will try... but I fear we will run out of air long before they are able to reach us." He looks over to the water, "I do not wish to leave anyone behind... but if she does not return we must look to our own survival."

Perzival is frustrated. "I'm not going to fail Lathander by dying in some good-for-nothing maggot hole! Let's get a way out of here!"

Survival check: 18

Maegan is committed to going through this underground maze as it’s a way to show that she’s good for something.

Maegan: You keep searching through the murky water, but aren't able to make any headway.

( Just a heads up from the DM: The DC for this is high. It's going to be hard to hit with only a +1 but it's not impossible. You need three successful checks to navigate the maze)

(ooc so I can either give up now or continue in both of which would require survival checks)

(It's up to you if you'd like to go forward or back. The DC to find your way back IS going to be lower. I just wanted to give you a heads up on how this is going to work just in case it's frustrating! Please feel free to continue to do what your character would do in the situation!)

Cora startles as Percy speaks. “Gah! There you are. Hells, you were really into your reading.”

Maegan will continue forwards feeling that if she goes back the group is just going to complain at her for going off on her own and that she should’ve stayed with them.

Survival check: 21

Despite the small laugh she emitted in regards to Cora’s comment, Lilyth still felt unbearably nervous for Maegan and the fact that they were losing air fast. They had to do something in attempts to getting out of here, and standing around waiting wasn’t helping.

”Maegan can hold her breath forever, right? We should go and see what the other doors have behind them, I’m sure she won’t mind being there for another few minutes while we just check...”
