Hey guys! I’ve just recently purchased the Waterdeep adventures on here, and i’ve been looking for a group to DM it for. Since none of my friends play D&D, i’ve decided that I should DM the adventure as a PBP game. I have been playing 5e D&D since the D&D Next playtest period, and started DMing around two years ago. I’m looking for around 4-6 players, with the following character creation rules:
Only content allowed is published book content and Elemental Evil Player’s Companion.
You can use either standard scores, point buy, or roll for stats.
No rolling for gold when it come so ti starting equipment.
We’ll use the exp progression method, as it adds a certain amount of unpredictability when it comes to character leveling, as opposed to milestone, which is set in stone.
You don’t have to have a massive backstory, but a light backstory is appreciated.
Your character sheet should preferably be on here, but any platform on which I can see the sheet is fine.
The characters start around a table in the Yawning Portal.
If you want to join, you can post your character here or PM me. I have a work schedule that prevents me from being on from 8 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon EST, but i’m pretty much always on besides that.
I present to you Amakos, a tiefling bard. I’ll get the character sheet and backstory in a minute.
Here's the backstory:
Amakos was an urchin on the streets of Waterdeep. Growing up, he always seemed to be humming something, a rather odd trait to be found in a homeless devil boy who made a living stealing from street vendors. This lifestyle, however poor it might have been, had its charms, and supported him until the age of 17. At this age, he was finally caught by the authorities. He barely managed to escape, and as a result was forced to go on the run. He traveled from place to place, never staying anywhere for a long time. He managed to eke out a life living on the scraps of food he managed to steal. Eventually, however, he stole a viol from a music shop, and his life was changed. He managed to teach himself how to play, as he was fascinated by it, and became a street performer. Suddenly, he was earning more money than he knew what to do with. He had a few contacts and friends back in Waterdeep he was indebted to, and decided that he might as well return to the city of his birth.
Currently playing in: Quest for the Shunned City, Coliseum of Conquest, DragonDenn's Dragonlords, Shipwrecked on Fugue, Tomb of Annihilation, Razor's Lost Mine of Phandelver, The Lost Kenku & One Grung Above
Currently DMing: Princes of the Apocalypse, Out of the Abyss, Coliseum of Conquest—The Arena (Sometimes)
This statement is meant to be both provocative and condescending. Look at these pathetic huddled masses in their private and closed games, cringing behind the policy of no homebrews and no custom content. This is an insult and injury even to fire types. HEED THIS! Your better off playing rpgmaker. It's everything this place wants to be when it grows up. Seriously. Otherwise, good luck, they will overdo things. All because of safety and security... kor.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I present Piton Melos Gidian Shelga Norma von Ailsing, a Aracockra Fighter of the Archery style. He is a Nobleman from a small aracockra city. he grew up learning the bow to protect himself when he wanted to go out adventuring. not skilled in the outdoors but well-read and spoken. https://ddb.ac/characters/6758214/jJFNtM
Shere Khan. A Tabaxi warlock on the search for...someone. Appearing like a humanoid Bengal Tiger, Shere is beguiling and cruelly efficient. He is new in town and at a dead end with his search. Something within refuses to allow him a low profile...
Cassius Nero, a red kobold in sorcerer's robes sits confidently at the table. He is covered in Kobold and Draconic iconography, the markings on his robes, the symbols engraved on his staff, and the modest jewelry he wears all emphasize his Draconian nature.
When Uradurk was young, his tribe was attacked by fiends. He was left for dead, but managed to survive. His dreams are haunted by faces of demons and devils. He has moved from place to place, never finding a steady home, but his travels have taken him all over Faerun, where he has encountered dragons and giants alike. His wandering eventually brought him to Waterdeep, where he could trade with merchants enough to get by.
I’ve rolled on magic item table A in the DMG to give you guys each a starting magic item. I use this system when running modules, mainly because most modules don’t have that many good magic items IMO. What it does is that I roll on certain magic items tables in the DMG at each level, rewarding you with items that will come in a variety of ways (mission rewards, faction gifts, etc.). It just adds a little bit of extra randomness into the game. Also, here’s you starting magic items, based on the table:

Where is the Thread?
Whoops, forgot to make it. I actually have a session of one of my friend’s campaigns, so I won’t be able to do it until tommorow.
With a bard, a warlock, a cleric, and an archer, I guess I’ll be soaking up all the damage. Wish me luck!

Well its my job to make sure you have the damage to soak :)
